Melt Cosmetics

I think they put out a lot of eyeshadow shades that are underrepresented by most brands (whether singles or not), and it’s a shame that their quality isn’t more consistent.

Such a timely question because I have been revisiting all of my Melt stacks this week. I really like Melt and have all of their eye shadow stacks and palettes. I never hesitate to purchase from them because I find the quality to be very good to excellent, although some products are better than others — but that can be said of almost every brand. Melt is fun, unique and their customer service is fab.

This is the same thought that I had!
I was drawn to them initially several years ago because of their edgier, unapologetic vibe. Their prices are a little on the higher side for some products and I have heard so many people say that the quality is inconsistent, so I’ve been hesitant to purchase too many things. I own the Dark Matter stack and love it but don’t necessarily think the quality is better than ABH/Juvia’s/MakeupGeek.
I do still think I’ll buy things from them in the future but definitely only after thorough research.

So everything I know about them is hearsay: I haven’t actually seen any of their makeup in person. However, I HAVE seen their ingredients lists and it can be different from one palette to the next–or even from one batch to the next for the same palette. Slightly annoying that the formula is inconsistent but it’s lovely that they keep innovating. I have also heard that the powders can change from a few months to a year after opening and can develop little spots and Melt claims the ingredients are separating: but I’ve heard Melt customer service honors a refund or even an exchange (to an updated formula of the same palette).

I should add that I DO plan on purchasing from Melt Cosmetics despite what I wrote in my comment: I like the direction Melt is going in with their newer formulas and I don’t mind them tweaking their formula as needed if they’re willing to deal with any issues.

I’m a big fan of the brand! I love their aesthetic and their formula has always worked for me. Some of their color stories are quite unique and their packaging is awesome. I’ve never had any issues with any of my palettes, but I know some people have.

LIKE: I really want to love Melt. They’re creative and cool. They excel at interesting and unique color stories and product concepts. Their packaging is really attractive. Their customer service seems good.

DISLIKE: The quality is inconsistent, not just among collections, but they appear to have batch issues as well. This is especially annoying considering their prices are on the higher side.

I love their shadows and I think they (mostly) come out with well thought out and beautiful color stories, but I’m always disappointed by their shimmers. It’s a good thing I love my mattes because nearly every one of the shimmers in the three eye palettes I own from them hard panned on me right away. That said, I do think that the overall quality of their products are pretty good.

I have long admired their color stories and feeling sad I couldn’t afford their stacked shadows when they were all the rage. The shadows always seemed to be good quality when I was first hearing about Melt. I love that they aren’t afraid of doing darker colors and especially feel their green heavy palettes just look cool. I’ll admit I don’t feel I can really speak to the formula, though recently I did acquire the Melt Impulsive palette in a mystery box.

I’ve been a Melt customer since 2014 when I was weaning off of MAC lip products (not 100% successfully). I saved dried out discontinued lipsticks: Belladonna2, Stupid Love, Shady Lady, Bang Bang and Summer from longer ago than I should admit. I fear they’ve discontinued Shady Lady which sucks! I LOVE that color and don’t see a similar version in any of their newer lipstick formulas. Of course many Liquid Set Lipsticks apply more evenly than a lot of their bullet formulas and they’re more comfortable to wear. I don’t feel Liquid Sets on my lips! Some transfer. Perhaps I apply too much in certain colors like ROC and Sidni. I only need the tiniest bit of Bellastona to get THE perfect bright red lip. Their metal glosses look very metallic in sunlight… Not a bad thing.

No one ever said that wearing a very dark lip is effortless yet their darkest bullet lipsticks such as Cherried, apply so poorly, are too dry and take a lot of effort to look decent. Why when they made a smoother matte formula for the Old Rose lipsticks? I wish their lipstick formulas were cleaner / safer. I can’t complain when they’re often on sale for $5. Their lip liners and eye liners don’t sharpen to a good point + it’s delicate operation. They’re waxy so I really feel them on my lips but they work well and make lips look bigger. For eyes they tend to move if not set with eyeshadow and most are irritating in my waterline & lash line. Bummer since that’s why I bought so many. I can’t complain about ANY of the round magnetic shadows I own. I never tried Blueprint or any of the larger palettes they keep making. I wasn’t wild about Digital Dust highlighters at first because they made my sensitive skin itchy & bumpy. I grew to LOVE Stargazer as an everyday highlighter for my fair skin. There’s a lot of product and they’re gorgeous on skin! Not glittery sparkly like ABH highlighters or Laura Geller skin frosts! I’ve avoided their blushes bc talc.

Their vegan pencil book is great! I can even fit Liquid Set Lipsticks in it and zip it up. I’ve never been able to snag their glass bowls. They sell out in 2 seconds. Let’s just hope nothing goes terribly wrong since they’re with Sephora and we know what happened to OCC. ?

Their vibe, their packaging (Impulsive aside), their color stories, their quality (almost across the board). They’re my favorite brand if I was forced to choose one.
