Nuance

Viseart Nuance Theory Palette ($45.00 for 0.42 oz.) includes six eyeshadows in warm, shimmery variations. Five of the six eyeshadows were decent to nice, but one was a real miss–firmer but drier, where the eyeshadow flaked off and was a total mess to use on the lid, even with primer. I wish all six eyeshadows had performed exceptionally well, but the palette left me a little disappointed, given how stellar Viseart eyeshadows usually are.

Nuance #1

Nuance #1 is a soft gold with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied evenly on bare skin. The eyeshadow was soft, dense but not too firm in the pan, and blendable. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading.

Formula Overview

-

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Nuance #2

Nuance #2 is a medium-dark gold with warm, orange undertones and flecks of gold sparkle. It had sheer coverage, which was likely due to the very dry, dusty texture where bits of sparkle came away from the actual eyeshadow color. This shade was difficult to use on its own, and it was still dismal over an eyeshadow primer–it would need a glitter adhesive to be better than mediocre. I could barely tell any was left after six hours of wear.

Nuance #3

Nuance #3 is a medium-dark, plummy brown with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin. The texture was slightly dusty, but it blended out easily and did not sheer out too readily. The color stayed on well for eight hours before fading.

Nuance #4

Nuance #4 is a soft, peachy beige with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. The consistency felt loosely pressed in the pan, which resulted in an eyeshadow that had a tendency to sheer out too easily and only had medium coverage. In order to build up the color, it needed to be worn over a primer or else it was just too dusty to layer over itself (just created more fallout). It wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

Nuance #5

Nuance #5 is a muted, medium coral with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation–nearly opaque–in one layer, while the texture was soft, blendable, and dense without being stiff or too firmly packed in the pan. The eyeshadow lasted nicely for eight hours before starting to fade noticeably.

Nuance #6

Nuance #6 is a rich, coppery red with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The color payoff was fantastic, and the eyeshadow went on smoothly and evenly over bare skin. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable–nicely balanced between firm and soft–and was just a dream to use. This shade started to fade after eight and a half hours of wear.

I’ve heard elsewhere that these are very brush dependent, and go on best with a sable brush. Did you also find that a different brush would make a big difference Christine? Ty!

Omg, Viseart, what hath thou wrought? Thought this one would fare far better than amethyst. Looking forward to people who bought older palettes recently, to see if the quality might be declining overall. Not good.

AB Avatar

Yup, this is about what I’d guessed the review would look like. #2 in my palette is remarkably hard and dry to the touch; others are much better but not up to quality of for instance my Minx palette. Overall I’m glad I bought it, but I do hope that this and Amethyst are flukes and that Viseart gets back to stellar quality of earlier palettes.

Beth Avatar

I thought they might be having issues with these when they pushed the release back…apparently they still didn’t manage to perfect the formulations – sad, but oh well :(. Glad I didn’t de facto order them from Muse when they had the bundle.

Marie-Estelle Avatar

If I look at my two favourite colours of the bunch, #5 and #6, I have the viseart’s dupe for #6 .. The other colours are pretty but wouldn’t add as much to what I already have. I will write down the MUFE dupe for #5. Their diamond formula is lovely ?.

Overall, this palette leave me with a “meh” feeling.
I really like the colour selection… If it performed really good (all B+ minimum) I think I would not have thought twice about it.

Could it be that they rushed this release? Those irregularities between shadows doesn’t seem like them.

Bonnie Avatar

I actually like #2 and didn’t have trouble with application or wear. Applied with my fingertip; got into the habit with Colourpop shadows. I haven’t tried using a brush to attempt a true “look”. Christine, you created a beautiful look with this palette! Love the pop of pink on the lower lashline.

Katie Avatar

Wow, this seems like a bit of a hot mess, it’s all over the place in formula in a single palette!

As a side note, when you’re doing the overall score for a palette, do you do it by adding the percentage grades and averaging them to get an overall score? Just a little bit curious haha.

maria Avatar

Christine I forgot to say what a beautiful eye look you created. I love the shades of the eyeshadows they are beautiful but the formulas I guess aren’t that great.
