Viseart Minx Theory Palette

Viseart Minx Theory Palette ($45.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a subdued set of neutral tones with three matte and three metallic eyeshadows. The Theory palettes are housed in smooth cardboard that open up with a ribbon-esque pull-tab and reveal the six pans held in a plastic container. Each pan is 0.07 oz., which is the same size as the larger 12-pan Viseart palettes; the Theory palettes are slightly more expensive at $45 (compared to $80) , which works out to be $107.14/oz. for the Theory palette eyeshadows vs. $95.24/oz. for the 12-pan palette eyeshadows. The Theory palettes are more cohesive as all-in-one palettes as the finishes and tone vary more than the larger palettes (which were designed to be used with other palettes). The pans are removable and seem held in by magnet, but there are no labels on the bottom, so you might want to DIY labels. Viseart manages to continue to impress with a formula that applies exceptionally well–long-wearing, pigmented, blendable, and just next to effortless to use.

Minx #1 is a light, peachy orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff with a very soft, silky, and finely-milled texture that wasn’t powdery at all. The color applied well to bare skin with even, true-to-pan coverage. It started to fade after eight hours of wear. LORAC Fawn (LE, $19.00)(100% similar). KVD Beauty Vespertine (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). Tarte Barefoot in the Grass (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Estee Lauder Uninhibited (P, $25.00) is darker, more muted (95% similar). Minx #2 is a medium-dark brown with warm, reddish-yellow tones and a semi-matte finish. It had great pigmentation with a very soft, silky texture that was a little dusty to work with. I was happy to discover that it didn’t turn patchy or apply unevenly in practice, which is something that can happen with shades are dusty. The color wore exceptionally well at nine hours. ColourPop Bravery (LE, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). Viseart Taupe (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Coloured Raine Duchess (PiP, $6.99) is darker (90% similar). Minx #3 is a deep, reddish brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It was very intense and richly pigmented, while the texture was smooth but denser and seemed to “melt” when applied to the lid. On me, it showed slight signs of fading after nine hours of wear. Clarins Brown #4 (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Tarte Take on Bordeaux (LE, ) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Bitter Clove (LE, $22.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Minx #4 is a light-medium, golden copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the texture was cream-like with a very smooth, buttery feel that glided on the lids easily and blended out beautifully. The color started to fade after nine hours of wear. Tarte Sassy Bun (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Dreamer #2 (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Concrete (LE, $4.50) is darker (95% similar). Sephora Demanding (31) (P, $9.00) is darker (95% similar). Too Faced Frost Those Buns (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Minx #5 is a medium-dark, deep orange-copper with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a very dense, but loosely packed, consistency–a little went a long way. I would use less, which gives you a much smoother finish, as it is so soft and pigmented that it can lead excess product on the brush otherwise. It blended out well and lasted for nine hours. Moira Glace (P, $7.50) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Meet Ya (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Viseart Cointreau (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Minx #6 is a muted, dark burgundy-brown with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, slightly looser texture that was blendable and didn’t really have fall out, but it kicks up a little excess in the pan itself. The color wore well for eight and a half hours. Anastasia Muse (LE, $12.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Soleil (PiP, $16.00) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). I *love* this one! I don’t really need more shadows in these shades, but it’s just such a beautiful, cohesive palette. I think it will be my first Viseart purchase!

Divya Avatar

Christine, a few of the images are not loading for me. Not sure if its my internet? Anyway, I really like this particular palette in the Theory range because its very diff from my Paris Nudes palette which has much lighter shades. Its a tie between this and the Cashmere palette!

Fran Avatar

Really gorgeous, although too warm for me personally. I love the way the mattes actually have a bit of a sheen. Really flat mattes tend to look very dry on my eyes. Viseart seems to be one of few brands that make palettes that would be useful in a professional kit. Especially since these seem to be held in by magnets. Hmmm…

I’m wondering if Sephora might have switched the photos of Minx and Cashmere in their website. Their Cashmere looks much more like your Minx, and vice versa. It’s not the first time a photo on their site has looked a bit off to me…

Christine Avatar

I believe Sephora’s images are messed up. I have done everything I can to verify mine – based on the packaging itself that I received (and I bought these, so they are not press samples) as well as cross-referencing half a dozen photos posted by Viseart on their Instagram page. I don’t know what else I can do to confirm that the ones I have listed/labeled are exactly as I received them 🙁

Fran Avatar

Christine, I know you’re very conscientious! Your photos match up with those on musebeautypro, too. This wouldn’t be the first time an image was inaccurate on Sephora’s website!

Gillian Avatar

These palettes look so good! I love the fact that the individual pans pop out- that was a good move. Also, are they able to go straight into a Z Palette or would you need to glue on a magnet? Just curious because I love putting stuff into Z Palettes, especially for travel. ?

Gina Avatar

I just got this on Saturday. I wish you had posted a pic of it in your hand- this palette is so teeny, it is absolutely perfect for travel. As a girl who only wears neutrals yet somehow still has a half dozen large palettes and travels a lot, I am so happy with this purchase. I was going to just bite the bullet on a small Z palette but this is even smaller!

Gina Avatar

Ah, I see it there! I’m so glad they didn’t waste space on a stupid little brush that no one uses. A mirror would have been nice though!

Mariella Avatar

These are beautiful but the selection is just too warm overall (one or two warm shades would be okay). I’m much more taken with Cashmere (trying SOOO hard to convince myself I don’t need that one) and Chroma. These babies are $60 plus tax here but I might ask for one for Mothers Day!

Stephanie Avatar

I will be ordering this as soon as it becomes available in Canada. I have wanted to try Viseart due to all the great reviews, and this one is nicely curated with colours are made for me.

Rachel R. Avatar

Looking more at the dupes, I do have dupes for all of these. I do like the other two, but really I probably have dupes for those, too. I’ll have to look through them more carefully. I’ll think it over more before I actually spend any money (or ask anyone else to).

Kylie5 Avatar

I think this will be my First viseart palette. Want to try viseart for a Long Time now but The big palettes have too many shades I do not need but here I can use 4 out of 6 colours (I do not like 95% of matte eyeshadows in general no matter which Brand it is).

Julia Avatar

Oh yeah, I knew this one would be gorgeous, too! I have a lot of dupes for the metallics though, and this runs strongly red/ orange for an everyday or standalone palette. I’ve got my sights set or Cashmere ?

Claire L Avatar

That’s a lovely deep peach eye you’ve done there. It might be a touch warm on my skin tone though which is a shame as this is another gorgeous high quality palette. They seem to be more long lasting than the Natasha Denona ones.

Raechel Avatar

There are a few super pretty shades and looks like great quality, but so boring and the packaging is off putting to me. Definitely a brand I want to try in the future, but I might wait for a more interesting 6 pan. Thank you so much for your reviews!

Cat Avatar

This palette looks stunning! I’ve been curious about Viseart shadows for a while (Sultry Muse is the one I keep eyeing) but I don’t want to commit to an $80 palette, especially one that I wouldn’t feel comfortable using on it’s own. I think it’s great that Viseart is making less expensive, smaller, more practical palettes (a mix of matte and shimmer!!) for those of us interested in purchasing one for personal use.

Adriana Avatar

Oh my oh my, this is so tempting! I love Viseart eyeshadows, quality, blendability, and amazing colours! I guess I’m going to “HAVE” to purchase Mynx, it’s simply stunning!

Shira Avatar

I just ordered the ABH modern renaissance palette and I definitely did not need that but I’m wanting this one so bad! And you rated it so well, ah! I have so much trouble justifying it because I basically wear these kinds of shades of every day so I have a ton of golds and bronzes and browns already…. but I have a makeup addiction lol and these are calling my name! Now I’m debating returning the ABH palette because I have no idea what I’d do with the red and pink shades anyway….helpppp! 🙂
