Urban Decay Show Pony Shadow Box Review, Photos, Swatches

Urban Decay Show Pony Shadow Box ($30.00) contains six 0.03 oz. eyeshadows, a miniature sized Primer Potion (0.13 fl.oz.), and miniature sized Zero 24/7 Eye Pencil (0.03 oz.).

The palette contains…

  • Snatch is a peachy-pink champagne kind of shade.  It reminded me a bit of MAC’s Say Yeah eyeshadow, which was limited edition from eons ago.  I felt like Snatch was very glittery, though, so fall out may be a concern for some.  It didn’t feel as gritty as Midnight Cowboy Rides Again from their Book of Shadows, Vol. II.
  • Mildew is a medium-dark forest green with golden green shimmer weaved through it.  It’s very pretty, and it’s perfect for the fall.
  • Flash is a bright, cool-toned violet purple with an icy purple sheen.
  • Painkiller is a bright, lightened blue-based teal with a silvery sheen.  It reminded me a bit of Flipside 24/7 Eye Pencil.
  • Smog is a neutral-warm bronzy brown.  It’s pretty, but you may already have something like it in your stash.  It’s a good kind of shade to own, as it makes for a wonderful smoked out neutral eye.
  • Toasted is a cool-toned taupe brown with softer brown shimmer.

This palette contains some nice shades, and only one of them (Snatch) had a texture that left something to be desired.  The other five were soft and went on very pigmented.  While I like the shades, I don’t think this is the most original combination of colors, and I’m not sure if you’d find it hard to create color combinations within just these six.  I can definitely spot a few, but you’ll need to use a separate highlighter–Snatch is a bit too pigmented and glittery to serve as really a choice highlighter.  In a pinch, you could work it in, though.

Between this and the Book of Shadows, I’d opt for the Book of Shadows.  It’s pricier ($18 more), but you’ll get more shadows, more color combinations, and more use out of it, per my opinion.  I do like that it does come with a miniature UDPP – great for travel.  I personally have so many miniature sized Zeros that I don’t know if I’ll ever run out of Zero, so maybe a fun colored liner would have been nice to include in it.

  • Product: 27/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation:  If you’re a fan of Urban Decay’s palettes, this is a cute little set, but make sure you have a separate highlighter on hand.

I love UD colors but I agree that you need a soft/light application when it comes to their shadows with glitter – fallout is pretty much a problem.

Snatch is pretty but Im hesitant since I barely use the glittery shadows in my ammo palette.

I made a trip to Wal Mart just to look at the new Hard Candy section and sadly they didn’t include the quad I mentioned above or any color similar. I will definitely check out everyone’s other recommendations and the single of Flash. Thanks!

Yea, I agree that book of shadows is a better value. However, these are six very pretty colors. Flash, mildew, and smog are my all time favorite UD colors. I think that this palette combines some of UDs best colors.

I really like this kit for travel, but I agree, I’d bring a separate highlighter or base color. The only color I could do without is Smog, but it would probably look great with the turquoise. Flash is my favorite purple color of all time. It’s jewel-toned enough to not make me look bruised, and can be used for colorful as well as more quiet looks. As for the liner and primer, they could’ve done without, and lowered the price.

Snatch- Interesting name there..Guess it goes with “Flash”…

The colors are pretty, especially the purple.

“Painkiller” just reminded me to take my vicodin for my chronic pain condition.

Thanks Christine!

Give or take a few colors, this looks like the deluxe pallete to me! Urban Decay seems to rename a few colors and put them in almost all of their palettes. I still love their products, but I can’t say they’re TOO original with their palette choices

I am a MAC fan all day, but lately I have been thinking of venturing out to experiment with urban decay and some other ones….Are the eyeshadows as good as MAC?

I love this set, especially the Snatch, Flash, liner, and primer! Snatch is really glittery, but it really brightens up my green eyes. Flash is less glittery and goes well in the creases of my eyes. Very easy to combine shadows. The liner is tug free and a little goes a long way! Primer is wonderful to use with a smooth and creamy consistency.

I finally got to see these last night at the Anaheim Sephora. I love Painkiller. It looks prettier in person. And I’ve been jonesing for Mildew forever, so I think I’m going to buy this during the FF sale!

This palette set is on sale for $10 on the Urban Decay website right now. It’s been renamed Preen and in new and imo better packaging!
