Urban Decay Rollergirl Nail Kit

Urban Decay Rollergirl Nail Kit ($28.00 for 6 x 0.17 fl. oz.) features six miniature-sized nail polishes. It includes these shades: Fame (champagne shimmer), Love Train (opalescent shimmer), Miss T (bright orchid fuchsia), Superfreak (gold shimmer base with gold micro-glitter), Woodstock (hot pink), and Xanadu (sheer purple base with purple glitter). Each polish is 0.17 fl. oz, so the total amount of polish in the kit is the equivalent of 1.02 fl. oz, or about two full-sized nail polishes.  I used Zoya’s Anchor & Armor as my base/top coats unless otherwise specified.

  • Fame is a soft champagne with subtle pink undertones and white shimmer. I used three coats and still had a hint of visible nail line. China Glaze Hybrid is a bit darker and more opaque but similar.
  • Superfreak is a tarnished gold with micro-glitter and a metallic finish. It dries to a matte metallic finish (I didn’t use a top coat in the photos, to show you the natural finish). It is very similar to Dior Timeless Gold–maybe a smidgen lighter but they’re quite close. This shade was nicely pigmented so I only needed two coats.
  • Xanadu is a fuchsia-tinted jelly base with violet and fuchsia glitter. I used three coats, and it still had a sheerness in the base color, but it was expected based on the description (it is not meant to be opaque).  It’s like a red-toned version of Illamasqua Boo.
  • Miss T is a vibrant fuchsia magenta with subtle fuchsia micro-shimmer strewn through the base.  Essie’s Bermuda Shorts was the closest I could think of, but it is pinker (not as magenta).
  • Woodstock is a neon hot pink, and it dries to a matte finish–almost like patent leather. I used two coats–the flash photo is taken without a top coat to show the finish.  Zoya’s Gilda is similar in color but not in finish.  China Glaze Rich & Famous also seems similar but perhaps a bit darker.
  • Love Train is a sheer, muted white with subtle opal iridescence and micro-shimmer. Think Chanel Pearl Drop but cool-toned.

my thoughts on the formula: The formula on these was really easy to work with–it applied smoothly, evenly, and nothing took too long to dry. Both Xanadu and Love Train are sheerer shades but the descriptions say exactly that–can’t fault them there–while Superfreak, Miss T, and Woodstock have excellent color pay off.

I love the concept of miniature-sized nail polishes, because you get to try a variety of shades without committing to the price tag of full bottles.  However, as someone with longer fingers and bigger hands, it can take some getting used to holding the small-sized caps, even though the brush applicator is full-sized (thankfully!).

I like the one from last year better… and you get a free case with it too! hahahha
I feel like there’s nothing much special here =/

Thanks for swatches =D

Nice! I love these little polish sets UD comes up with. But I’m not sure if I can justify the price tag for Xanadu and Miss T. Here in Singapore it costs SGD$45 per set…this is the same reason why I skipped last years Summer of Love nail kit. Sigh.

Fiona Avatar

Wow! I was blown away by how pretttty Woodstock and Superfreak are, might have to look into getting this kit 😀 Christine, are these mini’s permanent? And do they have bigger size versions that are permanent?

Jessica Avatar

$28 for tiny little bottles, sheer application, and easily duped colors? PASS. Xanadu is the only interesting one, and how many manis can you get out of .17oz? Two?

It’s so disappointing. Urban Decay used to have such AWESOME polishes. At least the revamped Hard Candy line is TRYING.

Christine Avatar

A full-sized bottle is usually around 0.4 to 0.5 fl. oz. – this is 1/3 to 1/2 of that, so I think you can get quite a few more than two out of it 🙂 I think I noted it in the review, too, the two that were sheer but were *supposed* to be sheer – you can’t get mad that they’re exactly as described.

Xanadu and Woodstock are awesomely gorgeous.
I haven’t purchased any of their nail kits, but I think I’m going to start adding them to my collection. I hope they have their spring F&F sale so I can snag the old ones and this one together.

What I would do for full-sized Urban Decay nail polishes… I actually ran out of colors from the last set I got, and I never use up a whole bottle of nail polish!
I really like these, especially the gold and pink, so obviously this is a must-have for me.

Amanda Avatar

Cool. I just got another 10% off email from Sephora for renewing my VIB status, and I want to wait until they have all the new UD summer stuff to place my order..including these polishes!

I know what you mean about big hands! I have giant hands… they are the same size as my boyfriend’s and he is 6’1 and I’m only 5’7. I have huge sausage fingers too, haha.

About these colors… I don’t know. They just don’t really seem all that “cool” or unique to me. I’m glad that UD is getting back into nail polish, but it is still only a shadow of their former glory. I would probably only buy this if it went on sale like the other nail polish minis.

xMissxAndristx Avatar

haha my boyfriend is 6′ and i’m 5’6 and we have the same size hands too! but he says he has tiny lady hands. i think he has normal hands and i have giant man hands. and my fingers are stupid fat. lol

Alannah Avatar

I find these newest incarnations of UD polishes so boring. The old (full-sized) polishes they used to sell some years ago were just so much more interesting and unique. I haven’t been tempted to buy one set of these newer polishes yet (and that’s coming from a polish addict)! So disappointing!

Elizabeth Avatar

Thanks for the swatches, Christine! 🙂 I have been looking forward to them. I think I am most excited about Fame and Xanadu. I thought Fame would be very similar to Love Light from last year, but now I can see that this is not the case. I think Fame + Love Train might make a really cool french manicure!

I still wish there were 7 polishes in this set, though… 🙁

Chiara Avatar

I love Miss T!! Do you know of any dupe for it? I can’t think of any… It’s really the only colour I would want from this set. LOVE the subtle shimmer in this one.

Chiara Avatar

Hmm.. can’t find that on Ebay… But then I remembered I do have something similar: Berries at the Canaries by OPI. It doesn’t have the nice shimmer though.

These aren’t permanent Urban Decay shades that you can buy separately, right?

Sarah Avatar

I actually like these on the nail more than in the bottle… Uh oh, I thought this was something I could skip, but maybe not! Thanks so much for reviewing it, otherwise I may have missed out!

Rainbow Avatar

WOOHOO!!!!! More UD nail polishes!!!!!!! Not happy they are repromoting Woodstock though..I’ve not even worn the one I already have from last year. Also I really wish they would make full sized polishes again!!!!! I do love these sets but they are kind of overpriced (luckily i’ve been able to find the last two sets for under $20..hopefully the same will happen with this one)

Neela Avatar

woodstock is the most amazing pink colour on me. i’ve never found an exact match. i’ll buy this just for another woodstock. yeah i’m that bad.

Serena Avatar

I’m disappointed 🙁
I own the last two nail kits and really liked the variety. Also the last two had 7 polishes each, almost like day of the week. Woodstock was in last summers kit.
None of the new colors are really wowing me. Hopefully there will be a more exciting fall nail kit!!

Megen Avatar

Love love!! Wish these would be on hautelook tomorrow xD

Off topic, quick question…did you get rid  of the UD and MAC mobile versions of these pages? I used to be redirected right to them. The MUFE and Illamasqua ones still work for me, and all 4 are bookmarked so idk what’s wrong

Jae Avatar

Oooh, I like ’em all. I’m sure I have similiar colors in my stash, but i’m not going to go through all of them. Plus, I like the packaging so I’mma pick one up! =)

Megan Avatar

Oooh, pretty! I’m definitely going to have to get these. My nail lady is always laughing at me because I bring in the craziest and brightest colors and I’m constantly saying more glitter. This set satisfies my need for bright and my ados (attention deficit…oooh shiny).
