Urban Decay Kush Eyeshadow
As I mentioned yesterday, as I was going through our Urban Decay Eyeshadow gallery, and I noticed we were missing a few shades from the permanent range–which was something that needed to be rectified! These three shades all wore eight hours before starting to show signs of fading along the edges, but otherwise, they were quite good.
Urban Decay Kush Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05. oz.) is described as a “grass green shimmer with gold micro-glitter.” It’s a medium-dark, grassy green with warmer, gold shimmer-sheen. It had good color payoff (but it could be a little more opaque), and the texture was really soft and smooth. Makeup Geek Appletini (P, $5.99) is lighter. Fyrinnae Dragon’s Wing (P, $6.80) is lighter, brighter. Disney by Sephora Fins (LE) is less frosted. Sephora Collection Picnic in the Park (07) (P, $13.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. Sugarpill Midori (P, $12.00) is cooler-toned, less shimmery, darker. Milani Green Safari (P, $6.49) is a cream product, cooler-toned. MAC Fresh Flare (P, $21.00) is less frosted, darker. MAC Guacamole (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, lighter. MAC Feeling Fresh (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches.
Urban Decay S&M Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05. oz.) is described as a “steel grey shimmer with subtle taupe shift.” It’s a light-medium gray with a frosted, slightly metallic, finish and subtle warm undertones on top. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was very soft and buttery. Makeup Geek Mercury (P, $5.99) is lighter. Fyrinnae Frostbytes (P, $6.80) is cooler-toned. MAC Evening Grey (LE, $19.50) is darker. Guerlain Les Gris #4 (P) is similar. Estee Lauder Cyber Silver (LE, $24.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.
Urban Decay Twice Baked Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05. oz.) is described as a “rich brown satin with gold micro-glitter.” It’s a warm-toned, medium-dark brown with a satiny, pearly shimmer. It had excellent color payoff, and the texture was soft, smooth, and easy to blend. Anastasia Truffle (LE) is lighter. Clarins The Essentials #9 (LE) is lighter. Too Faced Brown Sugar (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Her Cocoa #4 (LE, $15.00) is more metallic. MAC Copper Strip (LE, $21.00) is a cream product, darker. NARS Surabaya #2 (P, $24.00) is darker, less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Get Baked is a favourite of mine! Kush looks pretty but I wonder how much use I would get out of it as a hard-core neutral lover!
Oops! Should have said Twice Baked, not Get Baked… I have the Get Baked palette which I love 😉
It’s SO pretty! I love the finish – which is so rare to see from UD!
Twice-Baked looks great!
I’m obsessed with the finish!
Kush and Twice Baked are really pretty!
They’d go beautifully together, too!
Is Twice Baked similar to Darkhorse or Lost? It looks gorgeous!
Darkhorse and Lost are definitely darker than both, Lost for sure more metallic and I’d say a little cool-toned!
I don´t think I would wear it a lot, but Kush looks really lovely. MUST. RESIST 😀
Wear it more and then you can justify it ;P Too pretty not to wear a lot!
Kush is a really pretty shade!
Agreed! Perfect for summer!
I can only see Kush for some reason..
Now I see them all. I love S&M!
Phew!
Just loaded the page in IE and Firefox, logged in and not logged in, and all the photos loaded for me!
Thx Christine! You Rock!
Kush reminds me a lot of MAC One-Off apart from that golden shimmer! It’s definitely a very pretty green.
I can see it! I want to say One-off might be a little warmer? but I’d have to actually go back and look, lol.
I actually really like all 3, including Twice Baked, which is warmer than what I normally gravitate towards. I’ve also begun to really embrace greens & silvers/greys, so I think I need to add these to my list…
I love the subtle shimmer of Twice Baked!
any way you can tell me if kush is similar to homegrown from UDBOS vol II??
Homegrown is more metallic, a little cooler-toned. They’re not night and day different, but they’re not quite the same.
It’s so funny reading the dupes for Kush – Brand X- less frosted, Brand Y- less frosted, Brand Z- less frosted! That’s Urban Decay for ya’ – if there was a “Frosted Olympics” they’d take Gold in just about every category! I have Kush in BOS3 and quite like it. Christine, do you know if there is a significant difference between Kush as a single shadow vs its incarnation in earlier palettes?
LOL! Frosted Olympics… hmm.
I feel like the single is smoother, just a little. Not a major difference – not one I’d buy just to have the new formula.
I forgot to check back for your reply! Thanks, Christine. I actually bought Maui Wowie as a single in the “new, improved” formula. I loved the colour so much but found it totally unwearable in the BOS3 formula and was so hopeful that it would be “better” in this new formula, when it was released as a single. It’s somewhat better but still basically unwearable for work or most situations. That’s why I’m doubly thrilled with Nars Kauai…the light side is a perfect dupe!
Wow the new Kush looks like a completely different shade. I just wore Kush from my BOS yesterday, and it’s more mint and cool toned!!
Interesting!
Kush is so verdant, and S&M looks like the perfect ‘tin man’ silver! I
love seeing your swatches of UD eyeshadows – there are so many lovely colours, but no-one stocks UD here, so you can never go and swatch things for yourself. They’re one of my favourite brands, though!
What a bummer! It’s so hard to buy sight unseen… says someone who does it 99% of the time.
Interesting that Twice Baked has *red* microglitter in it! I noticed that most shadows with red microglitter tend to be limited edition.
Interesting – never noticed that before!
I really love S&M! Not sure I need it but I want it!
It’s kind of a more basic shade, but a nice one at that!
These are really nice colors! Love the shimmer effect!!
I wonder if they are ok for sensitive skin though? And also are they gluten-free? I am gluten-free, so I watch out for these types of things!! That is why I usually tend to use Lush, Glam Girl Naturals Cosmetics, and L’Occitane..
Love the colors though!
Hi Kim!
I’d probably contact Urban Decay for whether they’re gluten-free, as I am not gluten-free and have no expertise in that area!
Is S&M similar to UD’s Mushroom?
Mushroom is darker and browner!
Kush is very pretty, and I’d definitely wear it, but I’d buy it just for the name 🙂
I love how it’s bright but not super bright!
I really like Kush and S&M, but do I really need more eyeshadow?
The answer is no, not really, but yes….
haha someone’s been smoking a lot of pot over at urban decay. I like kush
UD definitely loves their drug references!
I like Kush and S&M!
They’re really nice shades 🙂
I think I want to add Kush and S&M to my collection. I have Twice Baked and I love it! It just wears so well!
What do you like pairing Twice Baked with, Ayesha?
Don’t have a single eye shadow by UD since the names have always turned me off from the purchase. I know it’s minor, but I consider it as an overall part of the packaging. Even if the quality and colour range may be stellar the names like “Kush” or “Roach” among many others just don’t cut it. Thank you for the swatches, they do look great!
I don’t think it’s minor at all, Elena! You shouldn’t feel like you have to defend not buying because of the names – they’re definitely not names that will appeal to everyone (or even be tolerable).
Haven’t used any of this range previously but from all the swatches I am seeing from it, it looks like I’m missing out. Kush would have to be my favourite I love an emerald green shadow with a slight shimmer.
I love emerald green eyeshadows, too!
I got really excited when I saw Twice Baked (no UD where I live lol, a lot of this is new to me!!) because I have a THING for brown… but it looks a bit too warm for me. I’m sure I could still wear it, but I dream of the PERFECT neutral brown…
One day, you will find it, Jade!
Twice Baked & Kush are gorgeous!
Agreed!
Beautiful pigments!
Which is your favorite, Tereza?
Christine–I noticed the description said something about microglitter for both Kush and Twice Baked. Did you notice a lot of fallout with the microglitter?
Kush looks quite tempting…I need to dig up my Twice Baked again.
Nope, no fall out issues with either!
From everything down to the name, im extremely inlove with kush. Im a sucker for greens!
Me too! Love green eyeshadow 🙂 What’s your fave?
I think humid by mac is my favorite. Loove doing smokeys with that. Midori by sugarpill is also a fave of mine when im feeling crazy. Whats yours?
Ooooh, that’s tough. All? The first one that popped into my mind was MAC Lucky Green!
