Lol, those brushes are hilarious, but very charming. I’m excited for more promo pics on this. This collection is so cute and silly. I would love the eyeshadow palette, but Urban Decay’s fall out makes me a bit crazy. I’ll look at swatches and see what you think. I am confused if this is just the same white model four times or if they hired four white models? It’s hard to picture these shades one me.

Elizabeth Avatar

They make a collection based on a universe with magical face-changers and it NEVER occurs to their marketing department to use some different-looking faces? Not even a single one with brown skin or brown eyes or gray hair or a unibrow or freckles or a beard? Attention, Urban Decay: is this collection stealth propaganda for blue-eyed White Walkers?

Kira Avatar

It would’ve been so badass if they had models that gave off echoes of Ygritte, Olenna, Missandei, Ellaria, etc.! Looking at this again, it is the same model with different wigs, though the braided hair pic threw me off. UD could have really made this promo awesome by throwing in a couple more models and character references for this collection! The Fenty promo pics gave me so many makeup ideas, but these don’t spark my imagination as much.

Genevieve Avatar

Totally agree Kira and Elizabeth – the use of the models in the promo pics are obviously for those, like me, who have never seen the show and have absolutely no idea as to the characters. All faces looking pretty much the same with different wigs and makeup – it is seriously depressing of UD.

Lauren Avatar

Palette seems all over the place, yet somewhat similar to Born to Run (not the same – definitely not as cohesive, but similar tones). I am definitely going to pick up the lip and cheek stain mainly because I love those types of products and Stila discontinued my OG and I have yet to find anything similar. That is a kind of product that nobody seems to be releasing so that is exciting for me.

Linda Avatar

I don’t even watch Game of Thrones, but I need this entire collection, as UD is my favourite brand, and these colours are just gorgeous! Christine, I’ll be waiting for your review though, as my budget does not have room for poor-performing products right now, no matter how beautiful the packaging!

Christina D. Avatar

I love UD but I’ve never watched GOT. Even more than that, it’s been my personal experience that these types of releases are more about the packaging and fan/collector appeal that quality of the product inside. Pass.

Emily Avatar

Why does UD never give us enough mattes in their eyeshadow palettes?! And I feel like most things in this collection are dupe-able with things I already own. I want to see it in person, but I think the only thing that piques my interest is the lip & cheek stain.

What a disappointing collection, there’s so many women in GoT yet there’s only a few represented here. Dany/Targaryen even represented 5 times, even the White Walkers get three things, yet they couldn’t throw something in there for Brienne(instead of Jon Snow’s sword) or Missandei or Yara. Also seems like they didn’t really think about the colors. Why is Lannister red brownish, why is the house Targaryen color golden? The White walker colors would have been more appropriate for House Stark since their house colors are white and grey, add in the blue to represent the Tully heritage of the Stark kids. Do that and you add in some space for other elements or characters to be named, it’s nitpicking but if you’re going to make a collection at least spend a bit more time thinking through things like this, just put in that little bit of effort that makes the difference. And what in the world is ” deep berry white” ?? I’d have preferred it if they’d done smaller palettes but then again this is Urban Decay so the pop up is expected.

Zoe Avatar

I agree there was more they could have tapped from the vast well of creativity that is ASOIAF. This collection seems like it’s made for more casual fans rather than die hard ones. To the point where about half of the offerings don’t seem related to the theme at all.
Like, why is the highlighting palette so boring? They don’t even match the dragons
(Imagine if one was white/gold like viserion, peach/green shift for rheagal, and pink/red for drogon).
UD is going to make a lot of money off this collection based on the licensing/branding alone. It’s a collectors item. They don’t necessarily need to appeal to the masses with safe products already represented in their library. They could have taken more risks with unconventional colors and finishes.
I am most excited about the cheek stain and eyeliners.

Kelsey Avatar

Oh my God, thank you! I am so unbelievably underwhelmed by this entire collection. It could’ve been amazing, but it’s just a poorly planned way to make money.

Also, the palette is ridiculous, I agree. I would’ve absolutely preferred something less gimmicky.

The mother of dragons highlight palette makes the least sense of all. It just seems as if they wanted to use particular words and phrases that are well-known but didn’t match it up, like the naming of the highlighters in the palette make no sense and would be better suited for some of the eye pencils. Rhaegal is a green dragon and Drogon is black/red and that winterfell snow could be a good fit for viserion, if they wanted them in a set they could’ve made nice eyeshadows out of those colors. Could have named one of the red lipsticks or the stain something Melisandre related, for some variety. With the lipsticks, they just gave up and named them after characters, and a random white walker apparently, cause you might be an icezombie but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock a nice “deep berry white” It’s like they had some random stuff lying around and decided to copy paste random names on the packaging without looking. It’s annoying cause it’s got so it will sell regardless but I would have just appreciated a bit more effort.

disco cat Avatar

right? that highlighting palette is… dull. might as well have done a silver and gold duo and call it “my sun and my stars” and “moon of my life”, at least it would be themed right. also, no pink lipstick named “the long goodbye” is a missed opportunity. hell, they could’ve rethemed that um, “deep berry white” for ellaria and her lipstick when she killed myrcella.

Mimi Avatar

As a GoT fan looking forward to this collection, I’m quite disappointed. The eyeshadow palette I’m okay with the colors and general theming (though I will nitpick some color choices and the specific namings – “House Lannister” is a peach?), but the packaging is so inelegant and clunky. The “Mother of Dragons” highlighter palette sells the inspiration short and the shades have nothing to do with the dragons / dragon eggs. The only items that catch my eye are the eyeliners in terms of both shades offered and packaging design. It’s a shame those are products that will disappear when used up, versus those that will still leave behind the nice packaging for your collection. :/

Diana G Avatar

My wallet hates me in advance. I definitely need that palette since it has colors I don’t actually have AND an Iron Throne. The lip stain looks intriguing, and I love UD lipsticks so yeah.

Sarah Avatar

Sometimes I wonder why I save up my points at Ulta. Why I keep my Ulta merchandise cards separate in my wallet. Why I don’t just use them on my regular replacement purchases like shampoo. And then…this. A collection that so wonderfully captures my love of makeup and love of Game of Thrones. I reeeeeally hope these get good ratings, because my points are ready. They’ve been waiting their whole lives for this. Winter is here.

Melissa Avatar

I think the concept is: colours/shades that the actual GoT makeup team would use on the actors.

But I completely agree it’s underwhelming (even though it’s a beautiful collection…just not for me!).

I miss the old Urban Decay with releases like the electric palette! The last item I purchased from them is the Moondust Palette :/

cherie Avatar

I love GOT and am a hug fan, but this collection isn’t sparking my interest save for the shadow brushes – just cuz! I’ll be getting both for sure!

Elissa Avatar

I have UD Beached, Born to Run, Full Spectrum and Distortion so I am actually not feeling like I will rush out to buy the palette as it seems to me I probably already have several shades that will act as dupes or pretty close to. Some of the other products look promising though. Will be looking forward to the swatches!

xamyx Avatar

I have all those you named, as well, except Beached (although I do have Detour), and I fully agree, these shades are probably all covered… That’s what I feel is the biggest issue with these bigger, mainstream brands; they’ve all been racing to “outdo” one another, that everything’s been covered, but they’re afraid to step out of the “safe-zone”, and there’s nowhere else to go. I’ve noticed that with UD, more than most other brands, has a real habit of just renaming past shades. I literally got suckered into buying Born To Run for the shade Drift, only to find it’s a dead-on dupe for Afterhours I the Troublemaker pallette; even Big Sky has several near-dupes amongst UD shadows… That said, I’ll still most likely take a look in-store, as I do like to have fully curated looks all in one pallette…

Ginny Avatar

LOL the lipsticks are Cersei, Sansa, Dany… and a white walker. It’s killing me LOL. I know Arya or Brienne don’t wear lipstick but really, none of them do so it would make sense as any. There’s always Melissandra—deep dark red.

Tracey E Avatar

Disappointed in the collection, especially the packaging for the eyeshadow and highlighting palettes. I thought it would be more substantial given the prominence of the show and it being highly coveted by the show’s fans. Might consider a lipstick or two if the pigmentation is there.

Mariella Avatar

Okay, though I should be over stuff like this, I am really interested in (big surprise) the eye palette. I’ve had a major crush on Sean Bean (Ned Stark) for ages so the whole Winterfell section is drawing me in and the shades Winter is Here and Winterfell as well as quite a few others are really grabbing my attention (after previously commenting on how few items excite me any longer). I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting the e/s palette at the very least, and possibly one or two of the pencils, depending on how all of these rate with Christine and whether or not I’ve already got dupes of the liner pencils.

Deborah S. Avatar

Never really got into GOT simply because I don’t tend to watch much TV. Anyway, the eye shadow palette looks pretty but nothing revolutionary here. I am interested in the lip/cheek stains but more for the lips. I think the packaging is super pretty and will make a nice piece for a collector. I agree with many that it isn’t really suited for traveling but if I were into GOT I wouldn’t think of using it as a travel palette anyway. I think any true GOT fan will likely be disappointed simply because they know so much about the show that nothing about this release is going to work for them as it doesn’t reflect what they see as representative of the show. I hope it reviews well for those who want it mostly as a collector’s piece.

Genevieve Avatar

Dare I say I have never watched Game of Thrones? My adult sons are addicted to it, but alas, not me.
I like the shades choices of the eye palette, but let’s see how the quality is – especially with any glittery numbers. The lipsticks are great shades too.
Re the models – hmmm UD could/should have been far more inclusive of the many different ethnicities and backgrounds that wear their brand’s cosmentics – in a way that Fenty was in an earlier piece here on this blog. From a brand that can give us smuttty and drug related names for their products (do they think this is hip?) and yet completely forgetting about the real people who keep their company afloat, ie the customer, is really really poor.

Melissa Avatar

Really beautiful collection and packaging! Well done Urban Decay, 10/10

However I won’t be purchasing any of this, I already have all these shades or they’re too dark to consider wearing once or twice at night… The eyeshadow palette would look SUPERB on medium to deep skin tones.

Z Avatar

Well shit. This is a lot cooler than I was expecting and I’ll be picking up more than I originally intended (which was nothing). Damnit.

Alecto Avatar

Deep berry-white? Barry White? What? I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but it looks like someone’s doing a bit of brainless theme-hacking there. If I’m right, that’s just head-scratchingly out of phase.

That aside, those brushes are ridiculously awesome. I won’t be getting either of them, because I know the moment I try to pull one out of my brush cup and it snags on one or more others brushes, I’ll be irritated.

I like the idea of the lip and cheek stain — if I were to my foundation-free stage already I’d definitely snag that (assuming it’s of good quality). I like the packaging of the lipsticks; it’s too bad that I like the Stark packaging best but really dislike peach lipsticks. The red and berry are my jam, but I don’t need either. If the berry had been in a House Stark tube, though …

Is it just me, or is the gold eyeliner *EITHER* silver *OR* gold, depending on the lighting? That’s very cool, if so. Actually the only liner there I’d be interested in is The Night King.

I’m going to come right out and say that I assume the quality of the eyeshadow palette will be a mixed bag at best. I hope I’m wrong for the sake of the people who get this. The highlighter palette is way off base and pointless as is — there’s already enough Danaerys/Targaryen references; I wish they had themed it after the minor characters, maybe one each for Brienne, Missandei, and Melisandre.

Jill Avatar

“there’s already enough Danaerys/Targaryen references; I wish they had themed it after the minor characters, maybe one each for Brienne, Missandei, and Melisandre.”

I can agree with you there, there are so many strong women in this series they could’ve shared the love. I would’ve worn the heck out of anything with Lady Olenna’s name on it!

Tiffany Avatar

I love GOT and was so excited when I heard about this collection, but so far I’m disappointed. I’m not a fan of the pop-up bulky packaging on the palette. I can think of a lot of other ways to pay homage to the throne without a pop-up. I’m not sure about a lot of the color choices either, but the liners do look interesting. Overall, I need to wait for reviews before making my final judgement.

Nora Avatar

There are so many good ideas in comments! Love the idea of an Ellaria-themed lipstick and incorporating other female characters instead of so much Cersei and Daenerys. UD could have been more creative for sure, but I will definitely pick up some of this (pending review). I need the tiny sword brushes.

The website lists the lipstick as a deep berry WINE, haha. I can see how “berry-white” would be a bit confusing.
