Urban Decay Disco Queen Holographic Highlighter Powder Review, Photos, Swatches

Disco Queen

Urban Decay Disco Queen Holographic Highlighter Powder ($29.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a sparkling, medium lavender with warm, pink undertones paired with cool blue and pink sparkles. It had medium color payoff with a denser, almost cream-like consistency that was slightly thicker in the pan. I would recommend using a denser, firmer brush and/or heavier hand when picking up product.

It is intended to be a more intense highlighter, though the brand said that it could be built up between “subtle glow” and “high-watt highlight.” The coverage was described as “translucent.” In my experience, the highlighter had semi-sheer, buildable coverage–up to semi-opaque–with a finish intensity buildable from medium glow to intense, sparkling glow. The powder did contain actual sparkle/micro-glitter, so the highlighter is designed for those who enjoy glitter in their highlighters. It applied fairly well to bare skin and blended out with much effort. There was a noticeable shift from blue to lavender, and the pinker, warmer base helped it read less contrasting on my skin tone, though cooler skintones may have preferred a cooler base color. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Off topic aside: You know you spend too much time reading makeup blogs, when your report says “cleft PALETTE.” Slow head shake. Kind of wish the HL trend would lose a bit of prominence.

This is really pretty but unfortunately due to my super pale skin it would look like a bruise on the top of my cheek. I really love these shades of highlighter but every time I have tried I have people ask me how I got the bruise so it is a hard pass for me.

As I see myself moving away from buying anymore glittery highlighters, I’m skipping on this. It’s pretty enough, but the other day when I had CP Aura Voir on, I caught a look at my face in the unforgiving lighting in MAC. What I loved on me up until then, suddenly looked OTT and a bit “cheap”.

I usually don’t go for really glittery highlighters, but I have to say this one is very pretty. Maybe if it ends up going on sale I’ll pick it up.

It’s getting so boring with all the make up companies specifying HOLOGRAPHIC products that are NOT holographic, this has a shift and glitter, but it is a far cry from being holographic, its a duo shift glittery highlighter
