Urban Decay Aphrodisiac Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Aphrodisiac
Urban Decay Aphrodisiac 6-Pan Naked Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that features three mattes and three shimmers. Though, at a glance, it looked like it would work well together, but in practice, I struggled to apply the colors cohesively without the colors muddying together. It could have been, in part, due to the overall quality of the shades, which wasn’t impressive. The palette launches exclusively on Ulta today.

Sheets
Sheets is a light-medium peach with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was hard to build up as the texture was rather powdery and prone to sheering out. There was also fallout during application as it did not adhere well to bare skin, but it was much improved over an eyeshadow primer. This shade wore well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview
$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce
The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Beyond
Beyond is a light brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage that was buildable to opaque pigmentation in two layers. The texture was soft, finely-milled, but somewhat powdery in the pan, so I recommend tapping off excess to avoid fallout. It can sheer out a bit too easily as well. The eyeshadow lasted nicely for seven and a half hours on me.

Night Fever
Night Fever is a light-medium copper with warm, red undertones and a glittering finish. It had good pigmentation, but the texture was incredibly loose and drier, so it sheered out significantly as soon as I started to blend or move the edges around. There was a ton of fallout during application. This shade was only usable with a dampened brush, and the wear would be improved over a tacky base, as applied damp, it had noticeable fallout within a few hours of wear (though the base stayed on for closer to seven and a half hours well).

Addict
Addict is a medium plum with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was smooth, dense without being stiff, and blendable, so it was easy to apply and blend out on my lid. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Glare
Glare is a medium bronze with soft, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was slightly denser with some slip and creaminess, which helped the product apply better to my lid and have a lot less fallout than I expected. It had opaque color payoff that lasted for eight hours on me with slight fallout over time.

Whiplash
Whiplash is a deep brown with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with two to three layers. The texture was soft and finely-milled without being too powdery, but it did not blend as easily as I anticipated–it took some work to diffuse and soften. It stayed on well for eight hours before it started to fade noticeably.

How disappointing. 🙁 These kinds of shades should be easy for UD to pull off.
I found it SO strange that this wasn’t a slam dunk!
They just did them so well with the Born to Run. Weird.
This palette is a definite “nope” for me. First of all, I just see a mini -BTR, but without the stellar quality of the BTR palette.
I’m curious to see what else UD has for the fall since this is exclusive to Ulta, so hopefully the rest is better!
It’s a cute little blush tones palette but I’m surprised they put one out what seems last minute.
It did seem like an odd release, but the only thing I can think of is that they needed something short ‘n’ sweet for Ulta.
If Night Fever hadn’t been so poorly executed, this would have been a decent little palette. I don’t know what the brand was thinking of putting in a glitter bomb such as this shade in what is arguably a decent daytime palette. Even another rendition of Half Baked would have been better.
I find these types of glittery eyeshadows SO odd to include!
Yeah, nah, I’ll stick with Colourpop’s version of this palette instead!
I just about ordered this until I saw this review. It’s sad I can no longer buy Urban Decay with confidence. Like you said, this should have been a slam dunk for them. Seems like time is over quality anymore.
I don’t normally pay attention to the description on the packaging, but this one is a miss for me – “sure to leave them love drunk”, “now sit back and let them do the heavy lifting” ?? For a brand that tries so hard to be edgy it seems very sexist, and like that’s the sole reason for wearing makeup, to attract others, not for ourselves. I used to be the biggest Urban Decay collector, but I feel the quality just isn’t there anymore the past few years.
