Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss
Urban Decay After Dark Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “medium-dark berry pink.” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned berry with a creamy, glossy finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage with a light-medium weight texture that applied evenly and smoothly. The gloss wore well for five hours on me and was hydrating while worn. NYX Spice Cake (P, $5.99) is lighter, more muted (95% similar). MAC Long Distance Relationship (P, $24.00) is less pigmented (90% similar). MAC Rebel (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC Twirling (LE, $20.00) is more muted (90% similar). NARS La Main Bleue (P, $26.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Milani Ravish Raspberry (06) (P, $5.49) is lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Tango (-, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Saucy Little Thing (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (80% similar). ColourPop Pony Up (DC, $10.00) is less pigmented (80% similar). Urban Decay Big Bang (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, more muted (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Gash Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep red with tonal shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and fine ruby red shimmer. It had nearly opaque coverage, though there was a slight translucency that allowed the natural lip color to influence the end result. The shimmer is fine and a mere dusting, so if you don’t love shimmery glosses, you may hardly notice it in this gloss. The consistency was smooth, comfortable, and applied evenly. On me, the color wore for five hours and was nicely hydrating. Smashbox Crimson Chrome (P, $24.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Triomphal (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Black Ruby (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Lancome Rouge Magma (05) (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Cle de Peau Lempicka Red (18) (P, $48.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). Chanel Flaming Lips (812) (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). Chanel Dzhari (608) (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less pigmented (85% similar). MAC Baby's a Vamp (P, $21.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Utterly Tart (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Revlon HD Carnelian (545) (DC, $8.99) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Chanel Rouge Grenat (826) (LE, $30.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (85% similar). MAC Send Me Sailing (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Courting Chic (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (85% similar). MAC Driven by Love (DC, $19.50) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Ravageur (P, $54.00) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Obsessed Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “baby pink.” It’s a light-medium, bubblegum pink with cool, blue undertones and a creamy finish. It had good color payoff, but the gloss applied unevenly with visible streaks and the lighter color emphasized lip lines. It just didn’t look as smooth as the previously revieweed shades. It wore for four hours and was still moisturizing. Anastasia Peony (-, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Berry Behaviour (LE, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). Jouer Regent (P, $17.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). MAC Pink Nouveau (P, $21.00) is glossier (90% similar). Too Faced Peach, Please! (P, $19.00) is darker, less pigmented (95% similar). L'Oreal Florid Pink (LE, $7.99) is darker, warmer (85% similar). NARS Angelika (P, $26.00) is darker, less pigmented (85% similar). MAC Speed Up (LE, $20.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (85% similar). NARS Bait (LE, $26.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Urban Decay Lovechild (PiP, $19.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). NARS Californiacation (LE, $26.00) is darker (85% similar). Edward Bess First Kiss (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer, lower quality (85% similar). MAC Carousel (P, $10.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Fenty Beauty Bubble Binge (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Vanity Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “black with iridescent shimmer.” It is a medium black with fine, iridescent shimmer. It doesn’t look like a true black gloss applied, as it only had semi-sheer coverage, so the natural color of the lips comes through (which gives it more of a burgundy hue on me). The deeper color was unforgiving, as it pulled into lip lines and applied unevenly. It could have looked worse, but it could have looked a lot better, too. It’s a shade that would need a primer, lip liner, or lipstick underneath it, but it could be used to blacken any existing lip color you may have–it’s just a lot sheerer than the range markets itself as. This shade wore for four hours on me and was moisturizing while worn. MAC Dirty Dark Martini (P, $21.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Make Up For Ever 502P Beetle (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). Make Up For Ever 503 Black (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Everglades (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (85% similar). MAC Skull Rock (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). MAC Dark as Night (DC, $19.50) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is supposed to give “high coverage” in “one coat” with a “creamy” texture that is also hydrating. Some shades are less opaque (nowhere near one coat pigmentation!) and a few could have applied more evenly. The glosses feel creamy, almost gel-like, as they’re so smooth, initially, but all of them developed tackiness over time, which helped them to wear longer than the average gloss with a range of four to six hours of wear. The formula was hydrating for me, and it is comfortable to wear as long as tackiness isn’t a deal-breaker for you. I didn’t notice any taste, and there is a very subtle sweet, vanilla scent that I can only detect when I open the tube and have my nose right at the opening.

Gash looks beautiful!
Agreed!
After Dark is a stunning shade.
It may be my favorite of the exclusive shades – great color and coverage!
Had such high hopes for Vanity, it’s so unique.
I hear ya! It looks cool in the tube, lol!
I don’t care how Vanity looks by itself, I have to get it for a topper. I have black lipsticks I can put it over if I want glossy black. I’m glad After Dark and Gash are good.
I think you’ll like it as a topper, Rachel!
After Dark and Gash are just gorgeous, but I have dupes in my stash (NYX Spice Cake and Revlon Carnelian), so have to skip. Think Vanity would work better as a topper
I was surprised at how similar Spice Cake was!!
I think you left off the review/rating/swatch for Shadowheart! 🙂
Sorry, that’s just for the overview of the formula, not Shadowheart. My mistake!
After Dark and Gash are both great looking! I definitely favor Gash as one I could see myself getting.
I still like Vanity a bunch, but as you said, this one is best used as a topper to darken up another lip product. So Gash and Vanity are on my wishlist!
Leaving Obsessed alone!
Gash is lovely! 🙂 Rich but not too bright.
I can’t believe the black one came out so streaky and uneven looking. I’m glad I skipped it because whoa.
I’m not too surprised 🙁 Black gloss is tough to get right, I think.
After Dark is really quite nice. I have the Revlon dupe for Gash so I won’t need to get it.
After Dark is nice! Very smooth.
I love After dark and Gash! They look like you have a liner under them.
I think you messed up a little in your description paragraph..maybe? Shadow Heart is one of glosses yet to be reviewed. It’s one i’m really loving and wanting to to well. Not sure if the color is going to work for me. So, I’m waiting for your review to check it out 🙂
Sorry – I’m an idiot! That part is just for the overview of the formula.
You are one of the smartest women I know- if not THE smartest! You made your living out of two things you love; writing and beauty. And you do it remarkably well all while helping the whole bunch of beauty addicts and just smart spenders out. So, don’t ever say you are an ” idiot” for such a small mistake ma’am. There’s your lecture for the day! :)XO
Duly noted, Nicole 😉 Thank you!
I really like After Dark and Gash — if I was more of a gloss wearer they’d go on my wish list. It’s really too bad about Vanity! It seems like it would work best over a pencil or a matte lipstick.
Thanks so much for reviewing these! I love them but they are very hit or miss. I have been watching eagerly before I pick up Midnight Cowboy or Shadowheart. Some have great NYX dupes and some the UD product is so good (Punch Drunk!) you just need the real thing!
