Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) now include these four shades in the permanent range: Hustle (metallic brown shimmer), Desperation (rich gray matte), Mushroom (metallic taupe-pewter shimmer), Uzi (dark gunmetal shimmer with silver micro-sparkle), and Cuff (metallic silver shimmer with silver micro-sparkle). Out of these five Desperation and Cuff are entirely new, while the other shades have been released in exclusive sets/kits.

Hustle is a medium-dark brown with subtle copper shimmer and a neutral-warm undertone. It had decent payoff in one go, and it was buidlable to mostly opaque color. Chanel Brun-Cuivre is slightly warmer. Urban Decay Bourbon is warmer, richer. Urban Decay Underground is lighter, less warm-toned.

Desperation is a medium-dark gray with a matte finish. I almost thought it was going to be taupe, but it’s really rather gray (not a bad thing, just an observation). It really needed to be applied back-and-forth to yield decent opacity. Urban Decay Stray Dog is warmer (more taupe) and pearly. NARS Madison Ave. is a darker, bluer-based gray.

Mushroom is a pearly taupe with a nice balance of gray and brown. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, and it was buildable and easy to use. Urban Decay Stray Dog is a touch grayer, perhaps, and less metallic.

Uzi is a soft black with a silver shimmer and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, and it was nicely buildable. The original Uzi seemed lighter and grayer; more gray than black.

Cuff is a light-medium silver-gray with silver sparkle. It had decent to good payoff in one pass, and it was buildable to semi-opaque color. Urban Decay Dime had a more metallic finish, so it also appeared brighter (and I wish they had brought back Dime instead). Guerlain Silver is similar.

Some excellent reading: Silver Eyeliner Comparisons, Brown Eyeliner Comparisons

Uzi was the most pigmented shade out of the five highlighted in this post, as it had solid color payoff in one stroke and could be layered without trouble.  The weakest shade was Desperation, which was weak in one pass and never quite made it to full, rich color despite layering and building up the color.  Hustle, Mushroom, and Cuff were all moderately pigmented in one stroke and were mostly buildable to fuller color coverage.  Urban Decay’s 24/7 formula has a slightly waxy, slightly creamy consistency that makes these very easy to apply across the skin, as there is no skipping, tugging, or pulling.  I will be testing the new shades over the upcoming weeks–I have found the wear across the formula to be fairly consistent in general.  I usually see the shades last between eight and ten hours with little to no fading, and then no smudging or migration.  If any of these acts contrary, I’ll be sure to update the post and rating to reflect that.

I’m with you, I don’t understand why they didn’t just bring back Dime. Dime was a GREAT silver color and frankly that Cuff color doesn’t look even remotely as nice.

Okay, I need to know how people use Mushroom. It is lovely, people seem to love it, and every time I try to use it I just find it kind of blah. Do you layer it? Do you use it on your top lashline? Is it supposed to just be subtle and I’m being dramatic? My inquiring mind needs to know. 🙂

Amanda Avatar

i usually use it on the lower lash line, or really smoked out on the upper lashes with a black tight line to keep it from getting that blah look

It definitely is subtle, and that’s exactly what I love it for! 🙂 I like a more subtle or smoky line under my lower lashes, so I use it there and it just has a soft effect somehow. I actually wore it today for a blog post photo, so if you want to see how I wear it, click the link here (it’s the Naked Basics palette review at the top).

I also wore it on my waterline today just out of curiosity. I think it looks fine, but I prefer the look I get wearing something darker in the waterline with Mushroom under the lashes.

It’s also a nice shade for making my eyes look less red.

I use Stray Dog (very similar) on the upper lashline for a little definition. I would say it’s subtle, for sure. It’s softer definition for a more natural look, but the metallic finish gives it a little extra oompf.

Shame about the quality of Desperation. It would have been a nice companion to Stray Dog. I really like Mushroom the more I look at it, though. I find subtler liner shades can work better for my eyes in the winter months when my skin is very fair.
