My skin tone/coloring: Next to my name! 🙂

Favorite look you wore: Interestingly (for me), NARS Multiple in Orgasm on my cheeks and eyes, with a bit of Juliet by Blackbird Cosmetics added to the eyes to ground things a bit. Nothing but matte lip balm on my lips. Rouge Bunny Rouge mascara in Red Nightfall. Surprisingly low-key for me, but I really did like it.

Most used product of the week: I’m never going to have a satisfactory answer for this question — I don’t repeat wear things unless I’m going with a super-neutral one-color eyeshadow for the sake of allowing my lip products to sit center-stage, and I haven’t been doing that recently. The only other makeup items I wear regularly are base products. I suppose I wore a mascara more than once, but since I rotate through 4 colors (changed daily), it’s tough for me to say which it would be. My most-used is *probably* Maybelline’s The Falsies in Navy Glam. Probably.

Any new beauty discoveries: Can we call this a rediscovery? I remembered that applying more (and more emollient) moisturizer than I feel like I should makes my skin look and feel a lot better. I forget this every now and then and start fretting when my skin starts looking more textured and unhappy. Now that we’re hitting the colder months, I’m needing to apply even more, and it took “overdoing it” one day recently to remind me that conservative application does me no favors.

My skin tone/coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones, MAC NC37, Lancome Teint Idole 24H Foundation N360, deep brunette, blue-green eyes w/ gold flecks.

Favorite look you wore: Just yesterday I played with a bunch of my new lovelies from several Rouge hauls, and it garnered high praise from all the MUA’s at MAC! Eyes: PMG Metalmorphosis palette was the ? ! MAC Orb browbone, PMG Entrapment (from Bronze Seduction Mothership) transition, Metallurgy inner lid, with a gradient of Bronze, then Copper on mobile lid and inner half of lower lashline, followed w/ Smoked Amethyst to deepen crease, outer V and lower outer half lashline, I this shade upwards in the crease creating a double wing effect. Used UD Voodoo and Starfire 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils on lower lashline and Space Dust for tear duct, usual black tightline pencil, gel liner for wings and wp mascara. Cheeks: UD Jawbone, Nars Adrenaline and a mixture of King’s Road and Friction for my highlight. Lips: UD Blackmail 24/7 Lip Pencil and Nars Siouxsie Audacious Lipstick.

Most used product of the week: If it’s Nars or PMG…then those!

Any new beauty discoveries? Hmm…nothing comes to mind for this week. Except that I may need to check into MU rehab!

I think it applies to most of us, Genevieve! See my reply to Rachel further down…think what fun a “makeup rehab 2 week therapy course” would be for most of us. Of course we’d probably come out worse than we went in (“Now that I’ve seen Genvieve’s new e/s palette, I think I need to get that, and it goes without saying that I need to get one of the PMG palettes that Nancy brought with her!”)

Skin Tone/Coloring:
Light neutral skin tone, green eyes, salt & pepper hair

Favorite Look:
EYES/BROWS—ABH Modern Renaissance Palette (Buon Fresco in crease, Antique Bronze in outer V, Vermeer on lid and brow bone), Chanel Stylo Yeux in Charme in upper tightline, Milk Kush mascara (free sample), Dior Brow Styler, Clinique Brow Shaper.
FACE—Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup, Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, RCMA No Color Powder, NARS Orgasm Blush.
LIPS—MAC Craving

Most Used Product:
Just my usual brow, foundation, powder, and concealer products.

New Discoveries:
My friends and I split the Bite Beauty Astrology Mini Holiday Set and one of the shades I got is Leo, which I wound up with by default because no one else wanted it. Despite the fact that I don’t normally like wearing sparkly lipstick, I’m very pleasantly surprised. It is shimmery, but smooth and creamy, with no gritty feel at all. It’s sheer, so I can build it up, but I like how it looks with one swipe because my natural lip pigmentation makes it appear more of a rose gold. It also looks amazing mixed with other shades. For example, it gives a gorgeous sparkle to MAC Rebel.

Skin tone: Very pale with neutral undertones.

Favorite look this week: I wore the PML Bronze Seduction palette pretty much all week adding a transition shade from the Pink Bundle from Persona Cosmetics. I used the light, pinkie brown shade from Persona to transition and then used whatever shades from PML. Today, just to break things up I applied the transition shade and then used Shiseido Shimmering Eye Shadow cream in shade Wisp just over mobile lid and then applied MAC Shiny Pretty Things Eye Shadow in Joy To over the top. I added a brown liner and used just the Joy To shade on my lower lash line. I applied Cover Girl Super Sizer mascara and that was the eyes. The mascara transferred to my lower lash line which never happens when I use the CGSS mascara and the only thing I did differently was to use the Tatch Illuminating Eye Cream under my concealer. May have to move this product down and not get it close to my lash line but I have dark shadows that are not just in my tear track but right at my lash line so was hoping this would help. It was a very simple look without any intense crease colour or blending. For my skin I have been mixing two cushion foundations. One is the MIBA Calcium Ion foundation and the other is RiRe Lucent Star Cushion. I take the MIBA and with the air puff dab it around my face mostly focusing on the periphery and then use the RiRe in the center and blend out. I used the Pony Liquid Concealer in Fair and for blush I used the blush that is the other side of the RiRe cushion. It houses a split pan of blush that is a red shade and a slightly orange shade which I don’t use. For highlight and contour I used Etude House Play Stick 101 Duo in shade 03 Natural. This has the perfect contour shade for my pale skin and is ashy and not orange. On top of the cream highlight I added the 20th Anniversary Chanticaille Powder and for the rest of my face I set with the Shiseido Setting Powder. Finally, for my lips I used MAC Powder Kiss Lip in Shocking Revelation. I loved everything except the mascara transfer.

Most used products: I am in the second week of trying a complete new skin care routine with new products so too early to tell but overall I am happy with how things are going. Besides the skin care I have used the daylights out of PML Bronze Seduction and the 3 holiday palettes.

New discoveries: Over the years I have pretty much eliminated eye liner from my routine as my mobile lid is very small and I have a heavy hood. I do tightline, but not religiously. I have been watching a Korean Beauty Influencer, Pony, and have watched her tightline and wear a thin liner above the lash line. I purchased a couple of the eye liners that she has used in her videos and I am enjoying putting a very thin line just above my lash line and then using a pencil, really smooshing the liner into my lashes and tightline. I have been using a brown shade just because it doesn’t seem to make the space look smaller. I have also started applying a little shadow and mascara to my lower lash line which is something I avoided also because I felt it made my eyes appear smaller but I have been using a white pencil on my waterline and that seems to make the shadow workable for me. The eye look I mentioned above was inspired by how she does her eyes which are very minimal with an emphasis on good skin and a balance between eyes, lips, cheeks and no particular area have more weight than the others. She wears her blush much more central and higher up so that it is more where I have placed highlighter before. Granted, she has perfect skin, is about 23 or so and is a trained MUA.
I like her tutorials because she actually teaches. She explains why she does things a certain way and although she speaks no English, she has subtitles below which I am able to read and still see what she is doing. She is quite the celebrity in Korea and does master classes, travels the world teaching and demonstrating. I am really enjoying watching her and how she treats her eye shadow given that she has a monolid. I think it is quite applicable to my situation with a very hooded eye.

Pony, and the Pony Effect stuff is very interesting. I only got one blush, which turned out warm pink, rather than mauve, and looked wrong, so I gave it away…to a horse person, whose idea of Korea is her father’s war experience! Not what we think of, when you mention South Korea. Instant grabby hands. I’ll look at some of Pony’s tutes. Have not had great success with AB L/S, esp from hauteloook. Peripera reds esp are not my idea of red. The 3 CE red mini set truly is, though. I get leery. Have you tried any Pony eye palettes?

Deborah S. Avatar

No, I haven’t been brave enough to try eye palettes from her line. The few actual coloured makeup products I have purchased have been very lightly pigmented, very sparkly and have very unusual undertones. Some of the foundation products have almost a greyish cast to them and I have had to add more neutral shades to make them workable for me. Some foundations are very peach based which I get along with just fine. I have purchased a few shadows from Japan via Tohsiya @fudejapan. I got a couple of Suquu shadows, Jill Stuart shadows and Shiseido which use to be a brand I used often when I first got out of college and was living in Southern California. They definitely prefer less pigment in their products and many of their shades within a line look the same. I bought quite a few lipsticks from The Saem, Etude House, etc and when the lippies came there were very minor differences in colour. You could wear them on different sides of your mouth and they would look the same.
They tend to prefer corals, peaches and pinks and shy away from reds, browns or mauves. I have really enjoyed the finishing powders, eye pencils and eye liners. One of the common practices, wearing unusual contact lenses, really makes their eye makeup look distinctive. I have purchased via StyleKorean, YesStyle and Memebox. A lot of Pony Effects makeup is not being made anymore and recently her product lists have featured more western makeup brands. The technique is still the same though.
In general, the makeup is less expensive so I have been happy to try things and not have to worry too much as the lipstick cost was less than $5.00 plus they have specials all the time.

Ooooh, makeup rehab? Can I come too? Think of the fun we could have talking about the products we left at home that we wish we brought with us??? Oh, I guess that sort of defeats the point! I’m going away overnight in a few days and already I’m in a bit of a frenzy about what to take, makeup wise (clothing’s not a problem but makeup….that’s always a big question!

My skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool
Favorite look you wore: My standard of IT CC, Dior Blush, Sephora Cappuccino liner and all the rest but the SA at The Body Shop commented on my eyeshadow look the other day, said how much she liked it. I think (wish I could remember better) that I was wearing 2 shades from UD’s Born to Run – Stranded and Punked. I was also wearing Red Rage on my lips.
Most used product of the week: probably the Born to Run palette and Estee Edit Prep+Treat+Glow
Any new beauty discoveries: the new Shiseido cleanser (Clarifying Cleansing Foam?) which is okay, I guess (I got some samples). I went to get a tube of the Benefiance cleanser I like and got the last one and the SA told me that it and the Ibuki one I also love are both discontinued…..the last few weeks have been like a wake for some of my favourite products, it seems!
