Too Faced Metallic Debutante Melted Metal Liquified Lipstick

The new Too Faced Melted Metal Liquified Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) recently released with eight shades. Just because you loved the original formula won’t mean you love this one and vice versa–they’re similar but have some more significant differences. The finish is the most obvious difference, as these are loaded with shimmer and the original features cream finishes. The Melted Metals are thinner with more slip, less pigmented, shorter-wearing, and have a less flattering wear over time as the shimmer tends to migrate into lip lines. I found it hard to reapply over faded product, so they require a more thorough removal for best reapplication. The original formula also has the phrase “Long-Wearing” printed on each tube as well as in the official name and marketing spiel for it, whereas Melted Metal has no mention of longevity.

According to the brand, the Melted Metal formula is supposed to be “liquified metallic lipstick in a tube” that’ comfortably coats lips in bursts of rich, glazed, metallic color that melts on.” Most shades are fairly pigmented with some being more or less pigmented and are comfortable to wear for the first few hours. They just don’t wear away as evenly as the original formula, and as the glossiness fades, the shimmer tends to gather, but this only occurs in the most shimmery/metallic shades, while the less shimmery ones wear away better. Towards the end of wear, it feels dry, but after removing the product, I didn’t feel like it actually dried out my lips. This formula feels and wears a lot better than some other highly metallic/shimmered lipgloss and lipstick formulas I’ve tried in the past, as the shimmer is fine enough that it never feels truly gritty. I feel like these are more like lipgloss than liquid lipstick, whereas the original formula leans more on the liquid lipstick side.

Too Faced Melted Debutante Liquified Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a vibrant pop of coral-pink with gold and golden-orange micro-shimmer. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a heft dose of shimmer that looked semi-metallic as you moved. It lasted for four and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. Revlon HD Sunstone (565) (P, $8.99) is less shimmery, darker. Guerlain Gems (LE, $51.00) is pinker (but this is the closest I’ve seen to it). Tom Ford Beauty Pink Dune (02) (LE, $49.00) is lighter. NARS New Lover (P, $24.00) is pinker, less glossy. Burberry Cameo Pink (P, $29.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Too Faced Melted Jelly Liquified Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a deepened, purple-berry with fuchsia and violet shimmer and micro-shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but there is some translucency there. It covered really evenly and smoothly (more impressive due to the overall darkness of this shade) and wore well for almost six hours. This one had less shimmer, which was both good and bad, as it was less truly metallic, but it wore away much better and more evenly. Tom Ford Beauty Alasdhair (LE, $32.00) is warmer. Gucci Beauty Tiger Lily (P, $39.00) is brighter. Kat Von D Wolvesmouth (P, $21.00) is more matte, warmer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Little Pretty (130) (P, $30.00) is less glossy. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Too Faced Melted Violet Liquified Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark, violet with pink undertones and very fine lavender shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that looked a bit streaky applied. It lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. Tom Ford Beauty Jack (LE, $32.00) is lighter, pinker, less glossy. MAC Vogue en Violet (P, $23.00) is darker, less glossy, less shimmery. MAC Itchy & Scratchy & Sexy (LE, $15.00) is sheerer, lighter. Kat Von D Wonderchilde (P, $21.00) is matte. Bite Beauty Violet (P, $24.00) is brighter, less shimmery. Milani Violet Volt (P, $5.49) is more shimmery, matte. MAC Violetta (P, $16.00) is darker, less glossy. MAC Outrageously Fun (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less shimmery. Illamasqua Boost (P, $22.00) is lighter. I know! I am such a huge fan of Too faced! I just love their ethics, packaging and kitschy style. I know the quality can be off at times. I own every single melted in the original formula and since these are permanent, if they review at a B or above, at that price , I love the colors, I’ll get them and fix the patchiness. If the issue was drying and sliding into lines, I may pass. I hope Sephora gets these before the sale. Ulta has the up online already! If not, too faced sends out 10-20% off coupons pretty often..I’ll snag’em up them!

Debutante has such a beautiful pearlized look! I’ll put it on my list but I might end up getting a Revlon HD gloss instead. Those wear away without any glitter gathering.

Debutante and Jelly are sitting in my cart of Too Faced…I so want them but I want to buy them from Sephora…lol…They are such pretty colors and debutante is just calling out to me!!! I have nothing like it.

Lauren Avatar

I picked up Melted Macaron and Melted Tutu and they’re both going back to Ulta today 🙁 The original formula might be one of my favorite liquid lipsticks, but this formula just doesn’t hold a candle to the original. Patchy, short wearing and just not flattering. I’m going to exchange them for more shades in the original formula. As always, I appreciate your review!

I was thinking about getting this yesterday but I’m afraid that it will look too gaudy on me. Idk if I’m just stuck on this mindset, but I feel like the finish reminds me of that really bright, tacky 80’s lipsticks. Maybe I’m wrong? I hope so lol I couldnt swatch any at the store bc they didn’t have any samples available

OMG! I’m definitely getting Melted Jelly and Melted Violet. The colors are SO gorgeous, and I prefer some shimmer and shine on my lips. The original Melteds were too matte looking for me.

Carla Avatar

When the Melted Metals first came out, I took it for granted that I’d be buying *at least* one, probably Dream House.
However, now that I see them, Dream House looks quite a bit paler than I’d expected – I was hoping for a kind of metallic version of Melted Jelly Donut.
Violet and Jelly are still not out of the question, though Jelly might be too dark and Violet too pale.
Decisions, decisions! What a First-World “problem!”

Debutante and Jelly are both SO pretty (I mean all the swatches looked pretty, but those two were my favourites). Debutante in particular looks -really- good on you.

Katie Avatar

I will definitely be picking up Metallic Jelly! I loved the color of KVD Wolvesmouth when it came out, but never pulled the trigger on it because of the not-so-great performance. Really happy to see a dupe in a better formula!

Nancy T Avatar

Uh oh! I love ALL 3! Especially Debutante and Jelly. Debutante has such a lovely glow and complex color, not a dull frost. And Jelly is just gorgeous and lush looking.

Michelle Avatar

I know I said this before, but “OMG OMG OMG OMG” lol. Debutante is the first one I will be picking up. They all look STUNNING on you Christine!!!!!!!!!!

Jocelyn Avatar

I was hoping these would receive a horrible review so I won’t have the urge to run out and by them but now I need them all!! Especially Metallic Jelly!
These look great on you too!!

Pami Avatar

Oooh, I love all three of these! It’s a shame about the wear problems, I wouldn’t like that at all! I wonder if some type of primer would help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

All 3 shades are lovely, but Debutante is a more wearable shade for me. I love coral-pink shades and I love how it looks in your face shot. And wow, it is very similar to Guerlain Gems! ^^

I don’t mind the shorter wear time that much, but I hope the leftover shimmer doesn’t bother me.

Denise Avatar

Eep! I am so excited with these – particularly Debutante! I have been waiting for the longest time for a near dupe of Gems as its such a gorgeous colour. Now all i have to do is find out if there are any distributors of Too Faced products in NZ…..

Kylee Avatar

I picked up Debutante and Tutu right when they came out and so far I’m glad I did! Debutante especially…I never got Guerlain Gems and have been sulking over it for ages, so I’m glad to see something close to it! I don’t mind the shorter wear time, especially because it’s neutral enough to be, well, neutral but brings it to the next level with that shimmer. It’s already been used quite a few times because it goes with everything!

Sarah Avatar

Bit disappointed… Wasn’t the whole point of the Melted line bold, long wearing liquid lipstick?? It seems like they’re just riding off the name with this new round (Can’t blame them after how successful the line is!). I love Melted Fuschia… Going out to buy Candy and Fig asap. I don’t like how sheer and gloss-like these are, and fussy to reapply.

Melted Jelly’s still worth a look though. Dat colour!

Amalia Avatar

Metallic Debutante on your lips look similar to Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur #59 Golden Melon, a very popular summer lipstick for the blondes Greek women.

Milou Avatar

Oh my goodness these are so beautiful! And I absolutely LOVE those first 2 shades.. It’s a shame this is one of the brands that’s not readily available in the Netherlands.

StrangeOne Avatar

Hey just wanted to know if OCC electric grandma is anything similar to Debutante? I got that in a set so don’t know if mixing it with something else would be worth it or just buying this instead.

Gina Avatar

My order of Jelly just came in and the color is A-mazing! Gorgeous…I Absolutely love it. It’s too early to say how well/long it will wear, but the color is magnificent!
Now I am waiting for Debutante to arrive!!!

Gina Avatar

My order of Debutante finally came in (got lost in the mail) and I have to say it is PERFECT.
It is the most beautiful, perfect spring color.

I now have both Jelly and Debutante and I adore both of them!!

Jo Avatar

I don’t know how you got Debutante to look so good on you! I tried it today in Sephora and I looked like a washed out robot. Macaron is the only one that worked on me. Back to hunting for Rouge G Gems dupe. 🙁
