face architecture—introduces two new ways to create balance and symmetry using complementing color contrasts.

The Details

Shade & Illuminate Cheek, $80.00

Tom Ford introduces Shade and Illuminate Cheeks in two vibrant, yet sheer color palettes. This contour blush duo of highlighting and shading creams is integral to Tom Ford’s face philosophy. The easily blendable formula is designed to make dimensional color contrasting of the cheeks remarkably simple. The pearlescent highlighting shade brightens and draws light to skin, to amplify cheekbones and lift the face, while the sheer vibrant blush tone deepens and defines for the perfect flush or contour. Each color combination enhances a range of skin tones and can be applied with the Shade and Illuminate Brush and blended with the Cream Foundation Brush.

  • Scintillate Peach, copper
  • Sublimate Dusty rose, plum

Shade & Illuminate Lip, $60.00 (Limited Edition)

Shade and Illuminate Lips premieres in six limited-edition shade pairings designed to flatter a range of skin tones. Two shades, one light and one dark, create a subtle to dramatic ombré effect, shaping lips with high pigmentation and revolutionary adherence. The formula, with a velvety matte finish, features emollient oils and a blend of polymers that create rich color and deep dimension. Shades span from nude, mauve, and pink, to red and burgundy, and may be easily applied using the provided dual-ended applicator, featuring a sponge and a lip brush.

  • Saboteur Berry, plum
  • Impulse Rose, plum
  • Automatic Beige, brown
  • Tantalize Coral, deep coral
  • Possession Pink, deep pink
  • Nikita Red, burgundy

I am not a fan of lip palettes, but these are intriguing. I’m still leaning no because the amount of the product looks comparable to an eyeshadow, not a typical lipstick. The price seams reasonable if you were getting the amount of two lip bullets, but if not…I’ll easily pass.

Leave it to Tom Ford to take popular trends–ombré for lips; draping for cheeks–and take them to the luxury level. I’m excited about this collection and am looking forward to seeing how these have been interpreted from the formulation standpoint. BTW, for those of you who were wondering what “draping” was, the model’s cheeks are a good example of the technique.

Hi Nichole,

Apropos the price of the lip palettes. This is Tom Ford so no way are you going to get the equivalent of two lipstick bullets for $60. His full size retails for $53 a pop and Lips and Boys retails for $36. Fortunately, as we all know, there are plenty of beautiful alternatives at all different price points.

Saboteur looks stunning, but it’s too rich ($) for my blood, and maybe too vibrant if anything like the boldness in the cool Soleil Palette. Can’t compare apples to oranges, though, and look forward to your review/swatch. I think that’s the shade on the model, and if so, it’s gorgeous on darker skin. Can’t imagine what it would be like on a pale girl.

Oh, I forgot to mention in my previous comment that in addition to the collection featured here, Tom Ford also has a new palette called Solar Exposure coming out. It’s configured the same as the Cool Soleil and Warm Soleil palettes: a blush, highlighter, and four eyeshadows. It’s a beauty!

Eileen Avatar

I hope so. It’s neutral like the warm palette, but it is cooler in tone. For me, it would be an ideal travel palette. You can see it on ReallyRee. It the beautiful Brits are getting it, we probably will, too 🙂

I’ve been debating whether to preorder these or wait until the other stores get them since I got the email saying they were on the Tom Ford website this morning. If those Shade and Illuminate Lip palettes apply and look like they do on the model then I’m interested but I don’t trust their ads or page when it comes to lip swatches. When the lips and boys came out the lip swatches on their page looked totally different than how some of them actually translated on the lip. They sound really cool but I think I’m going to wait.

Nope, nope, nope…I really dislike lip products in that sort of format…messy, inconvenient and just sort of dumb (I’m ancient and remember when lip glosses and lipsticks in a pot were really popular – way back when very few people owned such a thing as a lipstick brush – and they were youthful and novel but eventually everyone got sick of them and sick of having lip gloss under their finger nails). So, nope. The other items….some interest me a bit but I’m not prepared to travel out of my way to have to pay WAY over the odds for some Tom Ford.

Gosh, each and every one of those lip duos took my breath away. I could see using each of them. And that is the only time I can remember responding to a collection that way. But….

Over time I would grow to despise the format of those lipsticks. Sure, first thing in the morning would be fine. To reapply? Totally annoying and inconvenient. I know myself well enough to know it would end up sitting idle too much of the time.

Ford refuses 2 dress our First Lady, not that he’s been invited 2 do so. I don’t find his products as appealing in light of his unappealing disposition.

Jambi Avatar

Did you actually read what his main reason was, aside from not agreeing with Trump’s policies since he’s a gay man?
He actually said that he believes that First Ladies should not dress in super expensive, luxury brands as they should be relatable. He only dressed Michelle Obama once, when she went to meet the Queen of England, because he said that was an appropriate moment for anyone to wear a luxury dress.
I just wanted to clear this up as so much online gets distorted.

My Solar Exposure palette arrived today, so I have to dig in to swatch it – work was too busy today to do more than sneak a peek. I have Sublimate and Impulse on pre-order still, but looking forward to getting them. I don’t care for the ombré lip look, but I can see issuing the colors separately easy enough.

Chiara Avatar

I went straight to see the pictures and thought they were eyeshadows… I would love those colors on my eyes… As lip palette, they dint look so innovative…

Emily Avatar

Is it me or do this year’s blush duos look really similar to the contouring blush duos from 2014…just in a different texture? Looking forward to you swatches.

Pearl Avatar

The model looks lovely in the picture. I prefer lip color/lipstick in a tube so not sure I’ll be getting any of these. It’s refreshing that this is the whole collection, just lips and cheeks; it’s small and not overwhelming.

Dominique Avatar

She looks amazing and that ombré lip is stunning but on Tomford.com they always have beautiful lip swatches and then the product sometimes doesn’t look as deep, rich,or metallic as in their swatch. The shade and illuminate lip says it’s a matte finish so they obviously added a gloss to the model in the ads lips.
