Photosynthesex? Really? ?
And then there’s Pretty Baby, which was the name of a movie about a child prostitute. Ugh, these names. Gross.
I love the colour combinations, especially African Violet and Photosynthesex but I’m never quite sold on TF’s quads in terms of value for money. They cost considerably more than other similarly sized eyeshadow palettes on the market (and they’re only about $20CAD cheaper than the large Pat McGrath palettes). As a result, I haven’t taken the plunge and bought one. Yet.
Any ingredient list for photosynthesex? I checked TF site and (no surprise), there’s no ingredient list there.
The ingredient lists are the same for all of the quads, at least of the three I had. Photosynthesex didn’t have a box.
They are posted here (since it’s for quads, generally) – https://www.temptalia.com/product/tom-ford-beauty-eye-color-quad/
I certainly like these color combos better than the Dior ones. I’m low-key getting Subculture vibes from the stupidly named Photynthesex palette.
Photosynthesex is my favourite – but the name is just childish. Grow up Tom Ford.
Amen to that, Genevieve! For a dude who has produced movies and has a HE designer label, I swear he’s got a sickeningly juvenile sense of bathroom humor.
My feelings, too! I once read something he said about how he views the scent of Black Orchid that really repulsed me and turned me off of him and his products completely.
I totally agree with you, Genevieve. I’m beyond ticked off with the childish sex-and-drugs related names and I was hoping that maybe companies would start moving AWAY from this. Who wants to spend over $100 (in Canada) for a product with such a trashy name?
This price is just too much, but that’s why there are dupes and more affordable brands. I’ll stick to those. Leopard Sun screams autumn to me. So pretty.
African Violet and Photosythesex make for two lovely eye looks. I love the colorway of both. However, yet again with the adolescent bathroom humor, Major Tom? ?
I’m not terribly thrilled with any of these.
Phew! I am not alone!
I guess I’m the only one amused by “photosynthesex” (but I do have a soft spot for portmanteaus)! ?
For a number of reasons these aren’t calling my name. This is an easy pass.
On a slightly different review was checking out TF at Nordstrom’s in Seattle and didn’t realize how many vulgar shade names he uses until asking about different lippies. It is really ridiculous. I left without buying anything from T F.
Pretty, but OMG way, way out of my price range. $88 for 4 shadows, no way.
I rarely make political statements about cosmetics. Beef and opinion: Over sexualized product names and/or depictions of conspicuous consumption are in bad taste. Another example of a tone deaf luxury label. Has anyone seen the recent Dom Perignon.. I want to vomit. Wtf is wrong with these people?
Pretty Baby is gorgeous.
I have Leopard Sun and Pretty Baby and I am really enjoying both of them.
Daydream would have been my color had the quality been there. It wasn’t. Really poor for an $88 palette. It went back. The only other that was remotely cool is Photosex or whatever it’s called. But the star is the duo chrome and I have a Chanel cream shadow that dupes it. After everyone raving over PMG, and my studying all the palettes and reviews and being frustrated with how warm all her eye palettes are, I went into Sephora, wound up playing with Mothership 1 Subliminal, realized that it’s really cool toned, adored all the special sauce shades, and got it during the sale. With the discount it was $12 more than TF for ten shadows, which nearly all perform well, blend out beautifully, and now at last I get the PMG obsession. I’ve been wearing it daily, and praying Pat does more cool palettes. Sorry TF– I’ve a bunch of past palettes but this round is a no-go.
I’ve been trying to figure out what the African Violet palette reminds me of (certainly not violets) and I finally placed it–the palette looks like part of a sweater Bill Cosby would have worn.
