Tom Ford Love Lust & Flush Cheek Colors (2017) Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Love Lust
Tom Ford Love Lust Cheek Color ($60.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a light-medium peachy coral with warm undertones and a frosted, golden finish. This was the most shimmery shade out of the entire range, though it was still not quite as shimmery as the prior version of Love Lust–and the color is completely different (see comparison), as the original was darker and more pink-based. The consistency was soft, lightly dusty, and blendable on the skin. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage that wore well for nine and a half hours before fading on me.
For 2017, Tom Ford reformulated this powder blush formula, and the new formula is described as “layers of possibility, from a sexy glow to a more dramatic, color-rich look” (that sounds like “buildable”) that is supposed to apply “with the comfort of a cream.” Overall, the texture is thinner, finely-milled but drier than the original formula, and the shimmer has become finer and less apparent through many of the new-old shades. The formula was still fairly blendable to very blendable and particularly long-wearing with semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation.
Long-time readers will remember that this was one of my favorite formulas, and while it’s still a good formula, the texture and finish are no longer the kind that I gravitate toward, as I like a denser, creamier, and more pearly finish and the new formula is thinner, more powder-like, and is less shimmery overall–so it is just a personal preference.

Flush
Tom Ford Flush Cheek Color ($60.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a bright pop of peony pink with warm undertones and a satin sheen. The color looked nothing like the original shade (see comparison), which was darker, warmer, and more shimmery–we’re talking about a bright pink compared to a rich, true coral.
It had good color payoff with a soft, velvety texture that was somewhat powdery in the pan and on the skin until really buffed and blended. The coverage was more opaque from the get-go than buildable, though. The blush applied evenly and blended out nicely, though I found the prior shade to blend out more readily but more in comparison–the new version didn’t take any extra effort to diffuse. The color stayed on nicely for nine hours on me before fading.

That’s too bad that the colors and finishes are different. I’ve never used a Tom Ford blush, though I know how big of a fan you are (were) of them. They still look pretty to me, though, and they’re quite beautiful on you, so I’ll probably end up picking one up eventually. I have really fair skin, so the fact that it’s a buildable formula probably works better for me.
I actually think that they should have renamed just about all of them since either the color or finish changed (or even both) – some more or less dramatically!
I’m very glad that I bought Love Lust last year- its a shame that they are changing such an excellent formula. And I can’t believe the difference in Flush- I don’t think they should have kept the same name on that one; totally different color!
I would have liked to have seen new names, too!
Lovely lovely colour but I think it’s fairly dupe-able! I’m honestly not sold on what makes TF beauty products so different!
They have some nice products but not all are spectacular! I’d say it’s more about finding a formula + shade that just works well on you. You’re unlikely to find a formula that’s going to be twice as nice compared to a product at half the cost, IMO!
I was just at the counter the other day picking up the Solar Exposure palette and the sales associate told me they reformulated all the colours except Love Lust and Frantic Pink…I have all 5 of the 6 original colours/formulas and the original Love Lust is definitely a favourite. But if I reall correctly they changed the blush formula one time before this new relaunch?
I have two Love Lusts and they are similar in texture, one is a little warmer (less pink), but definitely this version is a lot lighter! The texture of the latest still felt a little drier/looser overall to me, though. (I’ve typically associated TF’s formula as creamy.)
I might understand a change in formula, but why change the colour and not change the name? Now I wish I had a backup of the original Love Lust!
J, the original blushes are making their way to the Cosmetic Company Outlet stores. If one is near you, you can call ahead to see if they have them in stock.
Tracey – thanks for the heads up but unfortunately I live in Canada and so no CCO’s nearby 🙁
Aw I was planning to pick up a Love Lust sometime in the near future because it seemed like a great luxury product but I’ll have to pass now. Your description of the formula sounds like the type of thin blush that looks really dry on me (even if shimmer is present). Oh well, I own plenty of blushes I love.
Yeah, I find denser/thicker blushes to be more forgiving on my skin overall (both in terms of finish as well as how they blend and how easy they are to wear over a variety of base products, bare skin, a bad skin week, etc.), but I know others like this type more!
If you have a cosmetic company that carries Tom Ford you might be able to find it. I recently got it for $48 there. Love Lust is gorgeous, I can see why Christine loves it.
I’m so surprised at the shade difference in Flush. I thought it was Wicked at first glance. Am so thankful to have purchased Love Lust in the original formula – it’s a favorite!! Have purchased 3 old TF blusshes at CCOs and will be tracking down Flush in the old formula as I have nothing that looks quite like it in my stash. It’s too bad that TF decided to change a standout formula and prioduct for the brand.
I agree with your suggestion of new names, Christine, especially those like Flush that are so different than the original shade.
Well, you and me both, on Flush! I was also really surprised at how light they went with Love Lust – the darker tone made it more wearable across more skin tones (IMO).
The original Love Lust was my first TF blush and it is gorgeous!! I agree that the original seemed much more suited to all skin tones. Really appreciate the new vs. reformulated swatches, Christine.
I have dupes for both so passing on these. Am holding out for Inhibition, maybe Ravish as my first blush purchase from Tom Ford.
Hopefully those two are good!
Annnnd I just ordered the blushes. So much for just a couple. I managed to find the 6 in the old formula and ordered the 3 new. The new formulas seem to be more satin or matte, but I like the colors better for the old formulas and from what I’ve read, the old formula was luxe compared to a drier/dustier new formulation. Looking forward to using these!
I ordered the 3 New colors as well……still waiting on Disclosure, but Inhibition and Gratuitous are gorgeous, especially Gratuitous! It’s pretty much *perfect*! I’m in love with the color and texture of it.
So, did you order all 9 blushes???
All 9! I’ve had my eye on them and been going back and forth for so long that at this point I felt like I needed rhe closure and to just get it over with. ? I don’t have anything like Gratuitous or Disclosure so I’m excited. I will have to be very light-handed with those two, though!
I love the colour but, honestly, the name “Flush”! (anyone who has kids probably remembers reminding them to “FLUSH”). “Natural Flush”, I could deal with…ditto something like “Flush of Beauty” but “Flush”???? Right up there with Smut in the “this is really embarrassing to ask for at the counter” department!
Must be because I don’t have kids that Flush has never brought that to mind, lol!
That never came to my mind either. It brings to my mind “a flush of color.”
I’m so completely with you on your analysis. Talk about screwing with a good thing. I don’t care half as much for the new formula.. it feels like a bajillion other blushes; nothing particularly special. Hmpf ?
I felt the same – that the texture and finish are now more similar than not to other formulas on the market!
they totally should have renamed them. I assume the color change was on purpose and not color substitution at the factory so then why not RENAME if you purposefully re-colored?
Definitely! New names would have made more sense, IMO!
Well BOO on you, Tom Ford! Between this and MUG pulling this sam
*same nonsense of reformulating, changing the entire shade’s look, but KEEPING a name from before is utterly messed up! And that’s an understatement, if y’know what I mean!
I agree – unfair to those who won’t know and will buy a backup of the older formulation. Not nice TF.
Haha, yeah, it reminded me of Makeup Geek Blushes! The change isn’t bad per se re: quality, but what I liked most about both formulas is MIA in the new ones!
Weird, why fix what isn’t broken. I recently got Love Lust and Wicked at Cosmetic company for $48, when I saw them there assume they must be discontinuing them. I also have Flush which I bought full price. I like Flush but its too dark really for my fair netural skin in winter, but may look better on light or light medium in winter skin. I love Love Lust, I can see why you like it so much. Wicked is really pretty too. I wore it on my valentines date last saturday and even my boyfriend comment on how nice the shade was.
I was wondering why they changed it (more out of curiosity), since the formula seemed well-liked to me. They could have expanded the range and added shades with +/- shimmer if they wanted to offer less shimmery versions, though!
These are very pretty, but with those who are saying they should have changed the names if they changed the colors. I’m really sorry Love Lust changed so much for you. I hope you were able to snag some backups of the original.
It’s all good! I had a good run, haha. Thankfully, there are many pretty corals on the market 🙂
For sure!
The soft, creamy, pearlescent finish was one of the things I always loved about TF’s powder blushers and so I’m saddened that the finish and texture have changed. As for giving old names to new colors, I really wish TF had not done that. Love Lust was one of my favorites, but there is no way I could ever wear the new version. As for Flushed, I actually like the new version better than the old. I wonder what has happened to Wicked? It’s probably changed, too. Since the colors are different, why not just give them new names? Oh, well . . .
Yeah, I liked that they had a higher shine but not frosted – the new ones do still give a glow to the skin but are definitely more subdued! New names would have made it less obvious how they changed the formula, too, and it would have been less “I preferred the original” or “I prefer the new one.”
I don’t really like these two shades one is very light and the color just doesn’t do it for me and the other is too bright a color.
Maybe one of the others will appeal to you!
So sorry they’ve DC’d one of your fave blushes of all time 🙁 The original Love Lust has been on my bucket list for a while, looks like I can cross that one off now, boo. Tom, why mess with such a good thing??? So I take it you will be trying to stockpile the original version?
It’s all good! I have barely made a dip in my original, and I do have one more in my stash, though that one was already a little warmer compared to my original!
I love Love Lust, but there are so many great coral blushes that I’m not hunting for any extras at this point!
What a shame the formula has changed for Love Lust! It’s a beautiful shade….
It is and was, totally different now, but still pretty!
Man. Lovelust has been on my wishlist for soooooooooo long, but the old one! Not this new one :/
I ran to my local TF counter yesterday to see if they had stock of the ‘old’ Love Lust (I hadn’t planned to get it until I hit pan on my NARS Orgasm – but the news of reformulation bugged me!). Thankfully they did – apparently they are only launching the ‘new’ shades here in March. So yay! Wearing LL this morning doing my Saturday mom duties.
Having bought this, the ‘old’ Wicked, and Bicoastal all within the last 6 weeks – methinks I’m set for blush for the year – or two! (Except maybe for the new shade Disclosure… I ‘need’ a purply plum…)
I’m bummed they changed this formula. I got Love Lust a month ago and was hoping to get more in the future! What other formulas would you recommend that are similar to the old TF formula?
Gosh, these are pretty! I just wish Love Lust was a tad less shimmery, like Flush.
How odd. My love lust blush (bought about 5 months ago) looks exactly like the new version and nothing like the discontinued one. This is still the most sparkliest blush I own though and hate that as I like my blush to not resememble a highlighter, do I’m glad they reformulated it.
That’s great!
Hi Christine,
When you say ‘it’s no longer the type of formula I gravitate towards’ do you just mean the new formulation or the old formulation, as well. IE, is the old formulation still one of your favorites? Or have you outgrown the original version, too?
Thanks!
Celena
The new one is not one I would reach for personally, as I prefer creamier finishes. I still like the old one.
Hearing the changes to the blush, it sounds like I’d prefer the older formula for the lighter more delicate colors and the new formula for the brighter colors. Delicate shades look better to my eye with more satin/pearl finishes and a slightly denser/opaque color. Brighter shades look more lovely to me with a buildable formula that’s got a satin to semi-matte finish.
I feel this is probably because I’m pale and have textured acnes scars.
Either way the blushes are still lovely.
The next question is with the reformulation, do you prefer the the Chanel formula to the new TF? Also, what about Ambient Lighting Blushes? Now that I have a full basic blush wardrobe (in my mind anyhow) I’ll be very selective at adding additional blushes.
I have both these colors in the original version and they are nothing like these. I would not buy these as replacements they are that different, and not in a good way, IMO.
I actually have Love Lust in the old formula and the new formula. I really do love them both. They are different….and I think I actually prefer the color of the new Love Lust. It really is beautiful and I honestly can’t tell a difference in he feel of the formulas.
I have the new Flush as well and I prefer the color and shimmer of it over the old formula.
