Must-Have Eye Products: Estee Lauder Double Wear Cream Shadow in Buttercream. It was limited edition, I think, because I found it at a CCO and cannot find it anywhere else! Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: theBalm Stainiac. It’s the only liquid/cream blush I own, and during the summer, I prefer something that can be applied quickly with fingers. Must-Have Lip Products: lip balm with SPF! Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: Garnier Moisture Rescue gel (pink or green). It smells amazing and hydrates nicely. I couldn’t call it “moisture rescue”, but it moisturizes my oilier summer skin well enough! I also like to use it mixed with a tiny bit of foundation for a customized tinted moisturizer.
Others: Zoya Rica nail polish, Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear SPF powder, waterproof mascara
Every time I’m in Sephora, NARS’ Taos grabs my attention and I never get it. This just sealed the deal for me. Gonna bite the bullet.
Eyes: Sort of boring but I’ve rediscovered MAC’s Jest. How I love that color. I think it is a Veluxe Pearl finish and it’s just amazing as a lid color.
Cheek/Face: NARS Albatross has been getting a lot of love recently. It’s been my go-to highlighter.
Lips: CANNOT get enough of the new Rimmel Showoffs! Dear lord, I love these lip laquers. So opaque and pretty long lasting!
Skin: Josie Maran Argan Oil. Yep me and the rest of the population. It’s just good for everything!
Do you use Josie Maran’s Argan Oil as a treatment/serum or does it replace moisturizer for you? How do you use it?
Katie McNabb
My skin rivals the Sahara Desert when it comes to moisture so I’ll use it as my moisturizer during the day (some days) and at night (every night), I pat it on top of my night cream. Yep, you read that right. And it works great on the hands!
Hey, if you have dry, dry skin and you can get away with it just as a daytime moisturizer, it must be pretty amazing 😉
A Name
Are the lip laquers any good for really dry lips? I haven’t had much (read:any) luck with drugstore lip products (I suppose that’s partly ’cause you can’t test them in store), but I love liquid lipstick, and actually love the look of Luna and Aurora. Especially Luna.
What smell do they have?
Claire
Must-Have Eye Products: Sleek Eau La La liner in Noir, works on my upper water line !
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: Any Meow Cosmetics Blusher, love them all !
Must-Have Lip Products: Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm in Vanilla Bean
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: Rosewater. It makes my skin softer and smoother. And oil for my hair (Amla hair oil, Monoi oil…), plus other oils for make-up removal (almond, castor…). Let’s not forget about my Coalface Lush soap too !
Gah! That Burberry lip gloss is straight up gorgeous!
Must-Have Eye Products: MAC Paint Pots, specifically Bare Study, Constructivist, and Painterly. They’re excellent bases for so many kinds of looks.
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: NARS Douceur – pretty much my go to cheek color. It’s nice and subtle and doesn’t compete with anything while still adding a bit of definition to my face.
Must-Have Lip Products: Yeah, I’m blaming you for this one, Christine. Jack Black lip balm. Saviors of my lips even on the driest of days. For color, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks. I adore the heck out of these.
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: I don’t really have a must have product for hair, it’d be more accurate to say “good enough for right now.” Skin – REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask. Love the healthy glow that I get from using this.
Happy to hear that Jack Black Lip Balm is saving your lips 🙂
Burberry Pink Cameo is sooo pretty if you are a fan of coral. I love that it’s more pigmented but not totally opaque – so it still has the look and feel of a gloss.
Kris
Love your picks, Christine! You don’t actually have much in the way of skin though. Is that because your routine doesn’t vary too much summer to winter?
As for myself…
*Must-Have Eye Products:
** NARS smudgeproof eyeshadow base, if only to stop oily eyelids!
** Rimmel Scandal’eyes waterproof pencil: it stays put when smudged all around the eyes.
** Also, if you can afford it… any of the Ombre Blackstar by Terry. I have the one in Velvet Orchid, and the wear is hardcore.
*Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: these have been a lifesaver in the heatwave in London!
** UV base mousse by Shu Uemura. I have only started using this in June, so I am not sure how it fares in winter, but you smooth it on with your hands and it dries almost instantly. Perfect base when you feel like you’re sweating all the time.
** Teint Supreme Or Rose by Terry (…it was on sale for £23 at Space NK. Its original price would make me gouge my eyes out: £92!) I smooth it on with a flat brush and put the least amount possible. It light to medium coverage, but it doesn’t slide around and dries down to a satin finish very quickly.
** Bourjois creme blush. It gives a healthy glow and you can pile it on. I set it with a light layer of any powder blush for it to last.
** MAC Pro Longwear concealer: it sets and doesn’t slide around, even when the sides of my nose sweat under my glasses.
* Must-Have Lip Products: Haha, lip balm! It’s been so hot I just don’t bother. Especially since you’re meant to always been drinking not to become dehydrated. Clarins Natural Lip Perfector is the best cross between a lipgloss and a balm.
No skin this time around 🙂 Nothing screamed “need” for August!
Do you think the Or Rose by Terry is worth it at full price or only at what you paid for it?
Kris
I am not sure.
On one hand, the wear is phenomenal, and it actually looks like perfected skin without looking cakey. The application is quick, buffing it is easy, and it dries down perfectly. It stays on even better than even Parure Gold (my HG), even in 31C with no AC. The coverage is sheerer than Parure Gold, though, so you may have to build it up (which I don’t) and/or complement it with a concealer (for Or Rose Teint Supreme 02, NC25 in Pro Longwear is a perfect match).
On the other hand… £92! That’s Creme de la Mer crazy. It’s meant to have these anti-aging magical benefits, which I guess is aimed at their clientele: not a lot of young people can afford that price tag. Other by Terry foundations, if you want to stay within the brand, are less expensive. I also think they may be phasing Teint Supreme out, which is why it was on sale.
I’d be reluctant to buy it again (if it still exists) just because the price tag is outrageous. Parure Gold, for half the price (£49) does an amazing job too. So does Bourjois Healthy Mix (£10).
It sounds really amazing! At least it wasn’t horrible or just so-so, but if Boujour Healthy Mix does an amazing job, it’s hard to cave on either By Terry or Guerlain!
Kris
I don’t think I can say no to Guerlain! It’s such an amazing finish, and I feel so great putting it on 😛 But I think Parure Gold is the bar at which I set my price/performance expectations.
Like, the By Terry and Tom Ford (which, to be fair, I’ve only seen Dustin Hunter’s review) are kind of sheer, especially for the price. If you have to layer and spend 1000 hours with a brush trying to get desired coverage… I’ve used Parure Gold when I had 3 minutes to apply it, no brushes, was crammed in a men’s bathroom, and hadn’t slept for 20 hours. And my skin turned out beautiful (not talking about the rest of my face, though!). In comparison, I don’t think I could shell out more than Parure Gold price for less of a performance!
Totally gotcha, Kris! I love Parure Gold, but did you know it’s being discontinued? 🙁 I just learned that! There is probably some foundation on the horizon designed to take its place, but I don’t really know how it will stack up.
The only thing I didn’t LOVE about Parure Gold was it had some anti-aging stuff in it, which is like… superfluous? I guess. I don’t buy into a LOT of that kind of marketing, and I just think, “Keep it in a serum,” for me.
I love seeing your top 10 list!
Right now, Performance Colors Cream to Powder foundation in Snowie, NARS Brow Perfector in Suriname, Urban Decay Anarchy lipstick, Urban Decay Ozone lipliner, NARS Desire blush, Too Faced Candlelight Glow Duo highlighter, NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder, Performance Colors Oilslick eyeshadow, NARS Underworld duo, and NARS China Blue.
Wow Christine! Thank you for doing a list like this! I love when you make recommendations like this 🙂
My must haves are:
Eyes: Something that lasts long. I’m with Katie in that I love MAC’s Jest. I like to combine Jest and Sable for a simple eye look. I’m also a fan of Urban Decay’s shadows. I think my favorite for August is probably Free Love (I love coral shades)
Cheek Products: TheBalm FratBoy is a nice natural blush, good for summer. I also like Taos blush, it lasts forever. I’ve been using MAC’s Ripe for Love recently and I’ve been loving it. It’s not permanent though.
Lips: I actually love Guerlain’s new Maxi Shine lip gloss. Cherry Swing and Candy Stripe are both gorgeous. I also like Clinique’s Chubby stick line, especially Super Strawberry. Both of these products make your lips look just juicy.
Hair Products: I use Nexxus’ Frizz Defy line because in the south, it gets super humid. The shampoo and conditioner are great for keeping the humid fro at bay for me.
I like Zoya’s Kylie2 and Areej for summer nails. I second waterproof mascara!
I haven’t, but that combination sounds like that would be pretty! I’ll try that out tomorrow, if I can remember to take Cherry Swing out of my purse tonight 🙂
Dominique
◾Must-Have Eye Products: Dior quints in Blue Lagoon and Peacock, Chanel stylo eyeshadows, Kiko cream eyeshadows from the Fierce Spirit collection, M.A.C Bare my Soul quad
◾Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: Dior duo blushes from the Bird of Paradise collection ( both ), MSF in Lust, Guerlain Terra Ora, Dior cream blush in Bikini
◾Must-Have Lip Products: Chanel RCS in Pygmalion, M.A.C lipsticks from the TR collection : Sheer seduction, Caliente, Feel my Pulse, M.A.C Mineralize lipstick in Midnight Mambon, Nars satin lip pencils in Luxembourg, Majella, Golshan and Palais Royal, Bourjois lip pencils, Kiko lip pencils.
◾Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: Liérac Sunific serum, By Terry crème de rose, Caudalie Huile Divine, Yves Rocher huile sèche sublimatrice,
Must-Have Eye Products: for sure, a decent primer and then I think I’d pick the eye shadows in Tarte’s Aqualilies palette. Perfect shades for summer – glowy neutrals and a lovely pop of aqua. Liner – believe it or not, UD 24/7 SHADOW PENCILS, which perform better for me than the liner pencils. Rehab and Underground are great shades and if I want a pop of colour, it’s gotta be Sephora’s Surfer Babe liner pencil
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: for face, Kiehl’s sunscreen or Lise Watier “Sun Smart”, Smashbox CC cream and for cheeks, what else but my go to Tarte Natural Beauty
Must-Have Lip Products: any balm with SPF in it and also Guerlain Champs Elysees or Clarins Pink Berry (corals don’t look good on me, nor do I like them so it’s only logical that my choices for lip and cheek are pinky/rosy)
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: a HAT, Ojon serum/oil (can’t recall the exact name) and Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener.
Must-Have Lip Products: Bite Beauty Matte Pencil in Zinfandel, OCC Lip Tar in Queen, Illamasqua Lily-Rose, Jack Black Lip Balm, Fresh Sugar Lip Polish.
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: Philosophy Take a Deep Breath, Josie Maran Lavender Mist, First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads, Supergoop Day Cream, Philip B. Maui Wowie Beach Mist.
Other Things I Loved: Zoya Dharma & Miley layered over each other, Fresh Hesperides Body Lotion, Lush Tramp Shower Gel, Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche, aloe vera. Sweet, sweet aloe vera. I also must have listened to every Manic Street Preachers album five times over and ran through a dozen books this month. I loved that as well. It was a good summer.
I think this qualifies as my list of favorites for this entire summer.
Your list is great, A.! I’m gonna check out the Josie Maran Lavender Mist (all over anything with lavender!).
Ellen
Must-Have Eye Products: Guerlain liquid eyeliner (love!), and I somehow find myself always going back to the Guerlain Liu palette, even though I don’t want to use it up. I just love the colors!
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: L’Oreal Youth Code BB cream – I got it a while ago and found it didn’t provide enough coverage, but now that I’m finding out what makes my skin happy, it’s perfect for the summer! For cheeks, I’ve been using a Nars cream blush duo in portofino and…something else…that I got a long time ago but didn’t use because I thought cream blushes didn’t work well on me (turns out I just needed the right brush – the MAC 188, which I also had for a while and haven’t used until now!)
Must-Have Lip Products: currently loving Dior addict lip gloss in sari pink (part of that is that I want to finish it up because it’s bordering on too old) and Jack Black lip balm (mint/shea butter)
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: L’Oreal ever sleek serum! I’ve gone on a no-silicone kick with my hair products, and my hair is 100x more manageable, less frizzy, and more voluminous. This serum just makes my hair dry perfectly, no heat styling required!
Must-Have Eye Products: Still falling in love with BareMinerals Star Treatment palette I bought after the holidays on sale. Thanks to your review, of course! Did a khaki to black smokey eye with the palette for the first time and it turned out well.
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: Just got the Touche Eclat in 1.5. The color’s a lot better for my fair warm-neutral skin than the original pink-toned shade 1 I returned a few years ago.
Must-Have Lip Products: Maybelline Vivid in Neon Red – you got me hooked Christine! I now have 5 of these.
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: I’ve been liking L’Oreal’s EverPure Serum paired with their shampoo and conditioner. I love the rosemary mint scent.
So glad you’re still loving The Star Treatment! Such a great palette 🙂
Clara
Must Have Eyes: MAC Pearlglide Eyeliners. Great shades, easy to apply.
Must Have Face: Guerlain Meteorites Compact Powder. It’s like perfection.
Must Have Cheek: Bronzer Änderungen peach/coral blush.
Must Have Lips: Peach, soft Pink and coral shades (MAC Cut a caper, Flamingo)
Must Have Face: Biotherm Pure.fect Skin products
Must Have Hair: Kerastase Résistance Shampoo, mask and Heat-Styling lotion
I want to start by mentioning that I walk an average of 2 miles/day, 4-5 days/week, in the Summer months, so what I look for most in a product is that it’ll hold up in to my physical activity in the SoCal heat. Having a large variety of color isn’t always an option, but it’s more important to me that whatever I put on stays where I put it.
Eyes:
Maybelline Color Tattoos & MAC Paint Pots-both are equal in terms of performance (for me), but Maybelline has a better variety, and a better price.
Essence Long Lasting Eyeliner Pencil-stays on my waterline better than *any* pencil I’ve ever tried, HE or DS.
Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner-HG, stays on until I take it off.
WnW Eyebrow pencil
Cheek/Face:
Garnier or Aveeno BB Cream-I have drier skin, am not prone to break-outs, and need minimal coverage, so these work well for my needs, and are affordable.
L’Oreal True Minerals Powder Foundation & Setting Powder-better than any BE/BM, and a fraction of the price, especially with BOGO sales.
WnW Bronzer-Ticket To Brazil & Reserve Your Cabana; TTB is a near dupe for NARS Laguna, especially for those who find Laguna a bit too light (or just don’t want to pay $36 for a bronzer). I actually wore both, one on each side, and there was no difference in the finished result, but TTB had better staying power.
Lips:
Fresh Sugar Lip Balm-I’m out of the “Original”, and plan to repurchase. I’ve been using “Rose”, but I prefer the other.
Skin/Hair:
Jojoba Oil & Argan Oil for *everything*. I use both year-round for face, hair, and body.
L’Oreal Sublime Sun SPF 50-I use both formulas (Face & “regular”) on my face, and get excellent results. These are also products I use year-round.
Love this feature! I think it’s an excellent idea. Although I may or may not harp on how much of an enabler you are. 😛
– Must-Have Eye Products:
Nowadays, eye cream and eye primer. Also, after spending one day without, I find that I desperately need mascara primer as well. (The one I currently use is just the very basic one from TKB Trading)
– Must-Have Cheek/Face Products:
Aside from (preferably tinted) sunscreen, face/cheek is where I can get away without wearing much product. This may or may not change the moment I acquire mattifying primer for my shiny nose.
– Must-Have Lip Products:
Epically Epic lip balm — It’s the best lip balm I’ve ever used, bar none. Nivea’s lip butter is a close second, and I buy Nivea regularly only because it’s more widely available. I also love Lanolips for overnight treatment.
– Must-Have Hair/Skin Products:
For hair, I need argan oil serum, and my hair doesn’t mind silicone, thankfully. As for skin, cleansing oil and (again) sunscreen. I wish I taught myself to wear sunscreen earlier in my life! I have a feeling I should start getting serious about (chemical) exfoliation and antioxidants as well.
– Others:
Heel blister shields! It’s winter in Australia, and after spending a whole year wearing sandals in Indonesia, I now have to start wearing (interview-appropriate) closed-toe shoes, which my wide mammoth feet hate to bits. I only wish it wasn’t like $7-8 for two pairs of those. >’:
Must Have Eye Products: Tom Ford Eye Quad in Golden Mink, I’m giving the new Sephora Ariel palette a bit of love recently, Rimmel ScandelEyes pencils (total dream products), MAC Bare My Soul palette from Temperature Rising… I love my neutrals, it’s true. Also Chanel Volume de Chanel and Revlon Grow Luscious mascaras.
Must Have Cheek/Face Products: Illamasqua Cream Blusher in Lies, MAC Face and Body Foundation, MAC Blusher in Springsheen and Cream Soda (from Archie’s Girls collection)
Must Have Lip Products: YSL Glossy Stains (11, 12, 15), Dior Addict Lipstick in Diablotine, Tom Ford Flamingo & Cherry Lush, Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne, Revlon Lip Butters in Wild Watermelon and Tutti Frutti and Clinique Chubby Stick in Curviest Caramel
Must Have Skin/Hair Products: Moroccan Oil Light, La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat Moisturizer, La Roche Posay Toleraine Cleanser and Effaclar Duo, Kerastase Elixir
What a lovely set of picks, Hunter! Thank you for sharing!
Ghina
Must have eye products: maybelline color tatoo ( on and on bronze)
Must have cheek/face products: MAC Mocha & The Balm Mary Lou Manizer. This combo give me natural glowy cheeks. I love it because it’s not too much and I can wear bright lip colors without looking like I wear too much make up.
Must have lip product: Nature Republic Collagen HD Dual Lipstick & Lipcream, the color I use is No.1 Deep Red. It is a korean brand, you should check this stuff. This duo lip product is amazing. The lipstick is long wearing and have a great color payoff. The lip cream is great and also act like a lip plumper. The downside of this product for me is the strong mint scent.
Must have hair/ skin products: The body shop tea tree oil
I break out during summer months and this stuff is amazing to do the job. I also like to pair it with tea tree mask from the body shop. One thing I like to use during summer months is lemon and baking soda mask. You just need to mix lemon juice and baking soda. This mask helpse a lot to cleae my blackheads.
Marja
Hi Christine & All.
I am torn between 3 ‘loves’ right now. I am sooo tempted to by the Armani Eyes To Kill Intense LE in 3 shades (bluish, golden en pinkish) but still not sure if they are easy to apply ……
Furthermore I have just discovered SUQQU and are going to order myself a blusher plus the brow pencil.

Jack Black Shea Butter! 😀 I feel violated by the sun if I step outside without it on!

◾Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: Liérac Sunific serum, By Terry crème de rose, Caudalie Huile Divine, Yves Rocher huile sèche sublimatrice,
I love Chanel Pygmalion! 🙂
UD’s Shadow Pencils are great – perfect for summer!
Must-Have Eye Products: Urban Decay Naked Basics, Diorshow Mascara in Azure Blue.
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: Nars Copacabana Illuminator, Too Faced Milk Chocolate Bronzer.
Congrats on your skin improving where you need a lot less coverage, Ellen! 🙂
I attribute it all to SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator! Recommended by my derm, and it’s done wonders 🙂
Wow, I’m pretty much fixated on certain brands…
Meteorites are amazing! 🙂
I am going to have to check out L’Oreal Sublime Sun! Thanks for the rec!
I love your favorites <3
Yay! 🙂
Must-Have Eye Products: NARS “Kuala Lumpur” eyeshadow duo, MAC “Groundwork” and “Rubenesque” Paint Pots, Anastasia eyebrow powder duo
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: Maybelline BB cream, Lorac POREfection finishing powder (used as foundation), Tarte airblush maracuja blush in “Shimmering Peach”, NARS “Sin” blush, MUF fullcover concealer
Must-Have lip products: Tarte lip surgences, tinted lip balms (they are my favorite all times of the year!), Benefit “Benetint”
Do you have a favorite shade of Tarte Lip Surgence?
Wow, I really love every single one of these products! If I could I would buy them all 🙂
Luckily, most of them are perm 🙂
Must-Have Eye Products: NARS Voyage, Essence Gel Liner (great for hot weather), Urban Decay Eden PP, Fresh Lip Balm in Rose.
Must-Have Cheek/Face Products: Korres Natural blush, Milani Berry Amore.
Must-Have Lip Products: Clinique Chubby Stick for Lips in Fuller Fig, WnW Wine Room l/s topped with NARS Oasis.
Must-Have Hair/Skin Products: La Roche Posay SPF 60, MAC Blot Powder, John Frieda Wind Down Relaxing Cream.
Nice picks! I’ve really wanted to try La Roche Posay.
Ugh — blister shields are total life saviors, but yes, they are pricey. Ayeeee!
love this new series!
Thanks, Jenn!
