The Summer Season: MAC Show Orchid Lipstick

MAC Show Orchid Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a vibrant shade of fuchsia-pink with iridescent fuchsia-purple sheen. It’s a bold and bright shade that’s definitely eye-catching. It is a full-color coverage lipstick with a creamy feel and light sheen. It has an amplified creme finish, which means it has a creamy (but not too creamy–there’s no real slip here) and incredibly pigmented. It smells like vanilla, has no taste (at least, not to me), and wears for a good four hours before it needs a reapplication.

Is this the right bright pink lipstick for you? Would you wear it?

The Summer Season is a series of posts featuring bright, vibrant shades of coral, orange, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for a summer of fun — that runs through July 2010.

Hi!! I love your website so much. This is my first time commenting. I actually have this lipstick and I love love love it. I think I bought it in the fall if I am correct. Now I get to put it to some use with this gorgeous weather!!

This is by far one of my favorite MAC lipsticks. I do not own it just because I felt I wasn’t wearing it enough…but it is amazing!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Show Orchid! I tried Revlon’s Fuchsia (030) thinking it’d be a good dupe but it’s much darker & too creamy for my taste.

I bought this during the Riviting release….I love it…I also own Petals and Peacocks (liberty of london) and while they are similiar, they have different hues….I am pale with white and pink hair so these colors look fab on me!

It’s been out for years, but it gets re-released/promoted to consumers periodically–it’s permanent at PRO stores.

I love this color! And if I was Christine’s age I would so rock it! However I am a wee bit older and this would just be scary on my lips now πŸ™

I have this, and wear it, and am also “a wee bit older” but that doesn’t stop me. It’s one of my favourite lippies, and looks especially good on cool-toned ladies.

I know it is a permanent PRO color, but I love it so much when it came out in the Riveting collection I bought two, so I didn’t have to go through MAC PRO. lol

I love how the finish is almost metallic…Well that’s how it looked on me. Loves it!

I bought this with the Riveting collection but couldn’t pull it off and returned it. I was so disappointed, it’s such a pretty shade of pink!!

Give it a try I think you could rock it, if not you can deft pull off Girl About Town. Hot pinks look gorgeous on brown skin πŸ˜‰

Hi Christine,

I have already commented on this product but I forgot to mention how great you are. I can’t believe the time that you put into this website. I honestly want to thank you so much for all your time and effort. You are great.

Love the addition of the face shot! All the fancy new features on the site are super-groovy! πŸ™‚

And I LooOoOoove this lipstick! I actually found a Wet n Wild lipstick the other day (whilst perusing the makeup section of Fred Meyer) that is VERY similar to this – It’s actually a little closer to Trimming Talk but I was impressed with the texture and level of coverage.

I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a review but… Eek. I don’t know if I can bring myself to reviewing Wet n Wild lipstick! Haha! For a variety of reasons… Then again, you DID bravely review those Lime Crime lipsticks… πŸ˜›

this is my HG lipstick i will die if i ever loose this one…
i somehow got to know abt this color from some site n then i tried it at my local MAC n wow i was so lucky to be able to buy that….
i get sooo many compliments whenever i wear this one…

love this one like hell
a must have wowww

If it’s, then it’s because it was only limited life on the consumer site, but it should still be permanent at PRO stores.

Gotta have bright lips for the summer. My favorite pinks right now are show orchid, pink nouveu (which I’m wearing today) and lickable. All MAC of course!

Show Orchid is soooo badass! I put it on a few days ago just for fun when I was hanging around the house, but I have this horrible urge to wear it out in the daytime just to shock people. LOL!

i discovered this shade a few month ago in the internet and totally fell in love with it. i was very disappointed, when i found out, that its only a pro shade.
but it was a part of the riveting collection in february und for sure i got one. i love this color, it makes me feel good t the moment i apply it.

i have also some hair accessories in the exact same color, it looks so good with my black hair (oops, that sounds really selfish)

I went through so many bright and hot pink shades before finally breaking down and getting this (Trimming Talk, Lickable, Utter Fun, etc..) None of them were quite right. I picked this up a few months ago, and LOVE IT! It will always be in my collection.

I love this lipstick πŸ˜€ My mom calls it the 3-day lipstick, since she swatched it on her hand and still had pink remnants three days later, despite scrubbing… lol

My favorite lipstick hands down. I don’t wear it that often, but when I do, I am reminded of why it’s the best. It can work on anyone.

Hi Christine!
Question: I’m looking to dupe the Marc by Marc Jacobs lip from the Spring/Summer 2010 runway show (it’s supposed to be Shiseido RS320 with a magenta pink powder over top) but I’m not getting the right shade of pink with that combo (maybe I’m just too pale! Would this MAC lipstick with a powder finish over top give me a similar color do you think?

I actually really like it on you. I love that you can pull off the brights and the bolds and that you have enough courage to do so…I have a bright pink lip gloss I love wearing out but I’ll still tone it down some because I’m not yet that daring.

This is my number 1 favourite lipstick. I bought it in Singapore when it came out with a collection in ’09 I think and have since bought a backup. I am olive skinned MAC NC25 and always get compliments when I wear it. Love it!

I’m a way over 40 something – way, way over – and I absolutely ADORE this lipstick!!! (Along w/Petals/Peacocks).

If I’m feeling shy I’ll tone it down w/Plum (MAC) lip pencil.

If I’m having a bold, sassy or frisky day I’ll pair it with Magenta lip pencil or wear it alone.

I’m an Nc45/50 and this color is the bomb on me.

I always pair it w/True Babe gloss.

I loved this color but was convinced it would be awful on me, since I’m approaching 40 and paler than NC15 until I have a tan. One of my younger friends wears this often, and I loved how it looked on her, so she finally bullied me into trying it. It’s a good thing she did, because it was love!! This will be a summer staple for me for years to come. I always get compliments when I wear it, and am sharing the love with others, getting them to actually try it on, not just swatch a stripe on a hand. It’s only scary the first time you step out of your comfort zone. After the first 5 compliments you get over the fear!!

Christine, is this similar to girl about town? I just bought girl about town and i’m quite dissappointed with the color because it’s a bit red on my lips not really fuchsia.

Thanks … i hope to get show orchid soon ‘coz i really don’t like my girl about town, nars schiap, ysl provocative pink … i’m really in search of beautiful fuchsia lipstick that will not look red on my lips and not too dark.

Show Orchid, by far, is one of my favorite hot pink lipsticks with Girl About Town and Petals & Peacocks following right behind. I wear them all the time. I admit, it might take some gutts to wear this in public, but i think its an absolute must-have, especially for the summer. Its such a sexy color! Thanks for the beautiful swatches.

I love this lipstick but was told by Mac store that they no longer sell it! Do you know where I can buy it now, as of 5/21/10? Thanks.

I use this almost every time I go out. I’m extremely attracted to bright hot pinks, and the second I saw this shade in the store, it was in my hands!

Show Orchid is by far the best color ever! You can by it at a MAC PRO store year round. I can’t live without this color. I wear it everyday and always get compliments.

Do you think this would look good on fair skin with warm undertones? I’m a brunette as well (not sure if that matters) and like to wear bright colors if they don’t drain color from my face or make my teeth look ish. If not, is there a similar bright/electric pink you would recommend?
