The Summer Season: Dolce & Gabbana Pink Lipstick

Dolce & Gabbana Pink Lipstick ($30) is a pretty-in-strawberry-pink with a soft, frosted sheen. It’s not an ultra cool pink, though it does have cooler undertones. It is a semi-sheer lipstick that delivers some color but doesn’t totally block out the natural lip color. It wears well–about three to four hours–and feels incredibly smooth and creamy on lips without ever drying them out. Dolce & Gabbana lipsticks do have a particularly stronger rose scent, so those who prefer unscented lipsticks should probabyl pass on this one.

Is this the right pink lipstick for you? Would you wear it?

The Summer Season is a series of posts featuring bright, vibrant shades of coral, orange, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for a summer of fun — that runs through July 2010.

Wow that’s such a beautiful color! Love it! Too bad it has such a strong rose scent (not a fan of strong rose smells), otherwise I’d probably pick it up.

I have been trying for 17 years to tone down the color of my lips so I can wear that exact color. I am envious of your pale lips. Just when I think Ok I love my juicy colored lips I see a pink that will not translate on my lips and I think *^*^&%!&^$#@! I want pale lips. I have done it all and used it all to get them less pigmented. Sadly nothing works. There could be money in removing pigment from lips. As in a cosmetic procedure!!! Anyway looks GORGEOUS!

Hey Christine, I’ve noticed that my Mac lipsticks don’t feel as creamy/smooth when I put them on in the morning, (and I keep my house pretty warm, I hate being cold) and it’s the same for all the formulas it seems. Are all lipsticks more or less this texture, or are the higher end ones more smooth/silky right off the bat? I wish all lipsticks could be like pigmented versions of slimshines. Are these high end brands that way?

Hey Mariah,

MAC lipsticks definitely don’t have the same texture as Slimshines, which have a lot of creaminess and slip to them — I use the term “slip” to describe kind of how slippery or how much they slide around. I’ve found Guerlain Rouge Gs have some slip but more of the creaminess of Slimshines (but they don’t feel wet – they stay in place). YSL Rouge Volupte has the most slippery formula – very creamy, very smooth, but the color range feels a little extreme (great formula, colors can be really hit or miss, not so universal–but they’ve gotten better with more everyday, wearable shades).

Korres Guava Lipsticks are like a cross between Slimshines and a regular MAC lipstick. You might like MAC Glaze or Lustre lipsticks, as those tend to have the most “slip” but neither are quite like Slimshines.

I wouldn’t say Dolce & Gabbana is really like Slimshines in texture or feel, though.

Oh my goodness, is this ever gorgeous! It makes me think “strawberry lemonade” and all the lovely things associated with it. Mmm, summer!

By the way: I love the new angle for the full-face photo 😉 It’s perfect.

A close dupe is NYC New York Color – Ultra Last Lip Wear in Fragile Pink 409B. It’s slightly less pigmented, a little frostier, and moves on the lips a little more but the color is the same pretty strawberry pink. For under 2 dollars, it’s worth a try. Some say wearing a gloss on top tones the frost down.
