The Spring Season: MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick
The Spring Season: MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick
MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick ($14.00) is a creamy, full color coverage shade of pinked beige. It’s one of my favorite nude shades to pair with a smoky eye, because it has this natural pinkness to it that keeps it from making me look like I’m sporting corpse-lips (which aren’t usually so flattering on me). It has a very soft sheen, but there is no shimmer in it. I’d have to say that Velvet Teddy may be one of my favorite lipsticks from MAC (at least, from the permanent range)–the texture is just phenomenal.
Is this the right nude lipstick for you? Would you wear it?
The Spring Season is a series of posts featuring my favorite soft beige, coral, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for the first blossom of spring — that runs through March 2010.
Don’t you just LOVE this?! I LoOoOoOove this lipstick! (did my singing translate through text?)
I think this is MAC’s BEST pink/beige nude (Peachstock being their best peach nude).
Ahahaha! Man, I thought I had Peachstock, but apparently… I don’t?
I would have liked to see your whole face before and after – it kind of puts it in perspective. My skin is a darker version of yours since I am black and Chinese- so I use your yellow undertones as a guide to what I should look at.

Velvet Teddy is actually one of the few MAC lipsticks that I’ve never tried on myself 😮
I might just have to give it a chance now 😉
I looove Velvet Teddy! Like with you, for me it is an awesome nude becauase my lips are quite pigmented and anything lighter would make me look like a corpse. If I want some gloss over it, Lust Lusterglass is an exact match!
Yes the online mac guy told me to get that one with it if wanted as well. Love the online help when store so far away!
it would be perfect if it had a tad less brown, but looks like a great nude nonetheless
ah this color looks amazing .. can’t wait to get one !
thanks for the swatch
Is this similar to Brave New Bronze from the style warriors? That’s my fave and I’m running low!
I think Fabby or Cosmo are a little closer to BNB!
Fabby’s actually not at all like BNB – I just swatched in the store yesterday. Cosmo’s pretty close but to my eye, Cherish was actually the closest. Velvet Teddy is not a bad substitute either but it’s pinker.
Was it on or swatched? Cherish is totally diff on me when swatched and on the lips 🙁 Cherish is love, but it’s definitely a nude/beige on me, whereas BNB has the pinky-ness to it. I don’t own either Fabby or Cosmo, but when I looked for dupes later, they seemed similar to me.
This looks quite a lot like “Warm Me Up” from the winter promotion.
Which is great! I didn’t stock up on that when I should have.
This is what I’ve been looking for!!! All the nudes I’m finding are just making me look dead and the bf keeps saying “I don’t get the nude lip thing . . .” lol. I’m SO trying Teddy!! TY Christine 🙂
Christine, are you wearing lip liner? if so, what shade?
Nope!
Christine, is this similar to Brave New Bronze?
Kind of!
How do you think this would look on fair skin? Thanks!
I think it would work!
Love this! What forumal is it, Christine?
Satin, I believe!
i just bought this today off of your rec and just confirming that it’s a “matte”. 😉
Christine…do you sleep?
LOL
I check your blog usually in the morning and at night. Both times you have new posts up and I’m in NYC, so its 3 hours behind for you over there; so how you have posts up before I even wake up makes me conclude you don’t sleep! O.O
I schedule out some posts so that east coasters have stuff to read in the morning even if I’m sleeping 🙂
Haha! Why thank you, that makes so much more sense now! 😀
That looks really great on you Christine 🙂 I love Velvet Teddy! Quick question, do you apply your lipstick with a brush or just from the tube? Your lipstick always looks flawless 🙂
From the tube 🙂 I am too lazy to do it with a lip brush unless it’s a super vampy/dark color that *needs* a lip brush (like reds or wines).
i like this! how do you think it compares to creme d’ nude?
Oh, I don’t think the two are similar really…
This is so weird, but while I love the texture and heavy pigmentation of Velvet Teddy, this color looks much more brown on me than it does on you. It really is amazing how much skin tones influence the way a lipstick looks on the lips; I am fair-skinned with rosy lips and this color is almost a true beige on me. Def recommend trying it on before purchasing if you can.
Thanks for the swatch I might just have to add this to my collection of Nudes.
I have this one and love it. It’s the only MAC lipstick I have that is almost completely used up.
Do you have any smokey looks paired this lipstick?

this looks very similar to Brave which i love. is it?
Kind of! 🙂
Looks so nice! what finish is it? Satin? Amplified?
Satin!
The color reminds me of a Mac limited edition color called Bodysuit..which is my all time favorite
I have a mac lipstick question that maybe you will be able to help me with: how to you get them to look less chalky, and more lush? I just got victorian, which is pretty and doesn’t look bad on me, but it just doesn’t apply well and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’m using Urban Decay lip primer underneath, but with or without they don’t look so hot.
Interesting… I haven’t had that problem! There shouldn’t have to be a technique – you should be able to just slap it on, to be honest 🙁
Aw bummer. I’m cursed! Thanks anyway. 🙂
WAUW! It looks stunning!
This would look great with a smokey e/s look. Although, it’s definitely one I would have to try on before purchasing.
Gosh….I wish I knew about this l/s earlier today when I was at the mall. I love this color!! Must Buy…I love the brown tone…my lips are pretty pigmented so this will suit me nicely…I hope =)
i’m not sure why, but this showed up way more brown/darker on my lips. Not really a nude for me at all (NW20). My lips have more red in them (compared with Christine’s).
I agree with Tiffany…. just a little too brown to be flattering on me, but a very nice nude as well. I also tend to have a problem to find a perfect nude shade, because I look washed out and corpse like easily. Up to date, I have never found the perfect nude.
I won’t stop looking though! 🙂
This color is so pretty, but I’m sort of afraid of MAC’s matte lipsticks! They just seem so dang dry. I actually don’t own any. This one does look a little less so though. I avoid frosts for the same reason too…
How is this compared to Cherish?
I find Cherish to be more of a nude beige, whereas this has some pink to it!
Yes I would buy it …but I have the one that came out with the style warrior collection that looks very similar
This shade looks great, but I am wondering how it would look on an African American girl(my complexion isn’t light, but more medium complexion). ;o) I am looking for a great nude lipstick that won’t make me look like I have been eating a powdered donut. LOL
I’m a medium browm in complexion too but I think the dead, powdered doughnut look is hot!
very cute!
I love love love this lipstick! I just got my second tube. Its such a great color. NC20-NC25
nice shade
I’m an NC45 and this lipstick is hot with Hodgepodge or Cork lip pencil which I blend out like mad because I hate obvious lines and I love matte lipstick. This matches the pink bottom lip I have and it enhances the complexion.
love that shade, it just says “kissable”
The online helper at mac just told me this would be good on me so had to check out the colour on actual LIPS, think he was right on! Also Hug Me. He said using spice pencil with creme ‘nude on top is another technique to try.
Hey christine! I’m new to makeup, and I want to start wearing lipsticks (only used lipglosses before) and can you recommend me just one soft pink lipstick for everyday and school?
Thank you!
Angel!
Hi Christine, I’m NC42 would this lipstick work on me ? Since I have a pigmented upper lip – what lip pencil should I use to pair with this to get a pinkish-brown look ? Thank you !
Maybe Buerre?
I extremely love the colour, but the texture is too dry for me 🙁
