Tarte Hussy Metallics Shadow
Tarte Hussy Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a bright, light-medium yellow gold with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. The texture was very soft but somewhat looser in the pan, so it kicked up some excess powder in the pan and didn’t apply as evenly or as richly as other shades. It wasn’t hard to use, but it is a shade that benefited from applying in sheerer layers or over primer. The color lasted for eight hours on me. Tarte Whiskey Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a medium-dark, coppery bronze with warm undertones and a frosted finish. Tarte Scandal Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark copper with warm, red-brown undertones and a pearly sheen. It was intensely pigmented–a little went a long way–with a very soft consistency. It was almost too soft, as it was easy to disturb the top layer of product, which required tapping away excess to avoid fall out during application. I recommend using a lighter hand when using this one, as you don’t need much product to get opaque coverage. The eyeshadow was blendable and adhered well to bare skin, while it lasted for eight and a half hours. Tarte Clueless (P, $14.00) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Star Myth (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Flame (PiP, ) is darker, warmer (95% similar). KVD Beauty Harpsichord (LE, ) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Smashbox Oxidize (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). Morphe Firework (LE, ) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Make Up For Ever I702 Mahogany (DC, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tarte Speakeasy Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a deep brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the powder applied exceptionally well to bare skin (I really didn’t find primer to improve application at all!) and blended out nicely. The texture was very soft and finely-milled, but it was a smidgen looser in the pan, so it is better patted onto the skin initially, then blended–it seems to “melt” a bit that way. This shade lasted for eight and a half hours on me. Anastasia Comfort (P, $12.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Her Cocoa #4 (LE, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Stila Metallic Bronze (LE, $18.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). LORAC Maroon (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Clarins The Essentials #7 (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Milani Intermix (DC, $6.99) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Chanel Affresco #8 (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). Clarins The Essentials #9 (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tarte Pretty (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Spoiled (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Bronze (P, $17.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Chanel Codes Elegants #4 (PiP, ) is cooler (85% similar). Make Up For Ever D652 Celestial Earth (DC, $21.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new, limited edition formula (boo!hiss!) that is available in 11 shades. Each eyeshadow comes in an oversized plastic compact with a clear lid, but the eyeshadow pan is actually removable; the only downside is that the pan itself isn’t labeled, so if you move yours into a freestyle palette system, I would make sure to add labels to the bottoms! The formula is soft, smooth, slightly dense, and very pigmented; a little went a long way, but it wasn’t so soft that it turned powdery or had a lot of fall out to contend with, though there was a little excess kicked up in the pan. They were very blendable and easy to apply to bare skin, and I didn’t notice a difference in payoff or texture when applied over primer or over bare skin. The formula wore between seven and eight hours for me (no primer).
There’s not much information about these posted on Tarte’s website, and in their email newsletter, it just mentioned “highly-pigmented,” but given that they typically advertiser their formulas (for eyeshadows) as long-wearing, I did test without primer for consistency. I’ll check back as I continue to review other shades to see if they make additional claims/updates.

These are gorgeous!! All of the shades are so cohesive, I wish they had done a palette.
Me too!
Same here! I hardly use singles!
Same here- I don’t mind depotting if necessary (I don’t like single clamshells floating around my collection), but purchasing 6/8/10 singles to have a good variety gets really expensive really fast!
Very true! And I never depotted anything.. I’m too clumsy for that! I would be scared to ruin the eyeshadow!
You should give it a try! Once I started I really got on a roll, and I was able to condense a bunch of singles and old, smaller palettes into one large double-sided z-palette. I use my hair straightener (wrapped in foil), a pair of needle nosed pliers to grip, and a little metal spatula to pop out the pans. I’ve only had a few minor damages to the powders, which I have been able to fix with rubbing alcohol. It’s kind of fun ?
Wow, sounds impressive! I need to watch some ‘how to’ youtube video’s first I guess, hahaha!
Me, too!
You combined these wonderfully in the pictures! And the names of these shades are great, too.
Thank you, Chris!
I love Speakeasy. It’s a really gorgeous shade and seems a little more complex than some of the others.
It’s very rich!
Speakeasy is seriously amazing. But now, like I really need it, I want Scandal, too. Must. Get. Control.
You can resist!
OMG, I want like 10 of these, which would be like $140! Tarte, have mercy on us. Pleaaaase put these in a palette, give us a discount, and make them permanent. They would sell like hotcakes, I promise you. Ok, all of these are beyond gorgeous, so hard to pick, trying to keep it to 3 or less. But I’m eyeing Hussy, I think it’s a nice warm yellow gold that will add a nice kick to neutral browns/greens, and won’t make me look jaundiced.
That would be great if they made them permanent!
Tarte really seems to be hitting it out of the park with these shadow!
They did a nice job on the formula!
Is it bad that I only want ‘Hussy’ for the name? LMAO!
I’m sure you’re not the first to want something based on its name!
Too warm for me but super pretty!
Totally understand!
I think These colours Are Made for me. And your eye Look is amazing !!!!
That is the Look I always want to wear but Never Do because I am too lazy. But I think with a Little practice it doesn’ t take too much Time.
Do you put the lightest colour on the whole lid and then layer the other colours? And which brush Do you use to Blend all the colours so good together? Thank you very much.
Now I have to Look where I will buy the eyeshadows.
No, I just put it on the inner third. I didn’t use a blending brush!
These really do apply very nicely in the eye look you did using these 4! And your placement of these gives the cool illusion of a red-copper duochrome seemingly emanating from the more bronzey shades. I may have to try this out tomorrow using a red-copper metallic I have in my BH Foiled or a LE MAC e/s my daughter depotted that doesn’t have it’s name on it? ( I believe it to probably be Brash, though).
Thanks so much, Nancy! 🙂
Too warm for me, but that’s a pretty look you’ve created!
Thank you, Pami!
I seriously want all of these! I wish Tarte would just stick them all in a palette!
That would be awesome!
These are just beautiful and they need to be in a palette…your eye look is stunning.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Ghaaaaaah, all looks so good!
They do!
Now these are shades I go for. You might have answered this in another post but are the pans smaller than a standard MAC single or is packing just that large?
Shame on them being LE….. why Tarte why!!!!
It’s so weird that they’re LE 🙁
any chance that these pop our if their compacts?
Yes, they do! It is mentioned in the formula overview – second sentence: “Each eyeshadow comes in an oversized plastic compact with a clear lid, but the eyeshadow pan is actually removable.”
I really want Scandal, and not just because of the show! haha “boo hiss” lol!! I’m glad my GOLDEN bday is on Tuesday; perfect excuse to go a little makeup crazy =)
Happy birthday! 🙂
Gorgeous shades, and without talk & mineral oils is allways a huge plus for sensitive eyes 🙂 I only wish too, they would have done palette! ..But on the other hand depotting is kind of fun too, because of you can create your own palette with your favorite shades 🙂 And usually you only need your fingers & tweezers, nothing special, for depotting..
A palette would be great!
