Tarte Exposed Amazonian Clay Blush Review, Photos, Swatches

Tarte Exposed Amazonian Clay Blush
Tarte Exposed Amazonian Clay Blush

Tarte Exposed Amazonian Clay Blush ($25.00 for 0.20 oz.) is described as a “nude.” The color is like a neutral plum–it’s soft but definitely plummy with a hint of pink. The overall color is muted, so it should never be too much on the skin. It can be built up to look more like the color in the pan or sheered out for just a hint of color. This is a great color for everyday or to round out a look that you just don’t know what blush to use.

Tarte purports that the Amazonian Clay makes it suitable for all skin types, because it minimizes oil, hydrates skin, improves the skin, and gives the skin an overall smoother and more even appearance. I’m not going to comment on whether it improves the skin in the long-term, because in order to do that, one would need to wear it for six to eight weeks everyday (like skincare). I have normal-to-dry skin, though for the past month and at present, it’s normal with no dryness or dry patches. The weather is crisp and autumnal, no humidity or the like, so I would generally expect long-wearing products to perform to their best, given the conditions.

This blush does not wear 12 hours on me; it wears a good eight hours, but by ten, it has disappeared. I’m fine with my blush wearing for eight to ten hours, but I will note that several blushes last around eight hours or so on me (Burberry, Dior, Guerlain, Illamasqua, NARS, theBalm–just naming some of the ones off the top of my head). The wear is good but falls short of its 12-hour claim. The texture is very, very soft to the point where there is some powderiness if you go heavily, and I find that a blush brush kicks more product loose than you actually need for a single application. You might find that a stippling brush works better, because it will disturb the pressed powder less and waste less product that way.

Thankfully, it’s not powdery when worn, because I was initially fearful that it would be, after seeing how it swatched. It’s very pretty and soft on, and with the nearly matte finish, it looks natural on. The softness of the powder makes for effortless blending. The texture and feel of these reminded me a lot of Burberry’s Light Glow, actually. As far as the color goes, theBalm Cabana Boy is a pinker, shimmery version, while Chanel Rose Temptation is a touch darker. NARS Oasis is similar, too, but it also has shimmer.

This is one of my favorite blushes of ALL TIME. I love the formula and how it blends, as well as the near-matte finish. I have it in Exposed, Dollfaced, and Amused, but Exposed is definitely my favorite.

Aimee Avatar

I love the texture of the American versions of the Joues Contraste blushes by Chanel! I’m pretty sure Rose Petale was my HG until these Tarte ones happened and now I can never decide in the morning.

Nancy Avatar

Same here.. I bought exposed, dollface, amused, and tippy afetr hearing so many raving reviews on youtube but I find it doesn’t live up to the hype at all.. I find them quite powdery and hard to blend no matter what brush I use weather it be a MAC 187 or 129 or 168.. I also find exposed muddy when blended out..

Carrie Ann Avatar

I just got this blush during Sephora’s F&F sale and was wondering to myself this morning why you haven’t reviewed these yet. I’ve heard so many good things about them and I think this particular shade is so gorgeous. 🙂

Carrie Ann Avatar

Yes. It’s really pigmented. I agree that a stippling brush is probably best. That’s what I was going to try next. I find that it blends very easily and I think this shade is very natural-looking. I’m not sure if it lasts 12 hours on me. So far, I’ve only worn the blush for maybe 6 hrs. and there was no fading.

Joyce Avatar

Ooh this look is VERY pretty! Has the lip product been reviewed already? 🙂

I really like this blush. I love this part here:

“…or to round out a look that you just don’t know what blush to use.”

because that’s exactly how I would describe this blush. Whenever I can’t figure out how to complete a look, I’ll just reach for Tarte Exposed.

When it first came out and people were sacrificing limbs for it because of the amazing wear, I was kind of suckered in. But I found the same result–wears less than 12 hours, actually less than 8 hours! But that’s okay…I rarely need blush to last that long these days xP

Ashley Sarah Avatar

I’ve heard such amazing things about these blushes. This particular color looks very nice on you. I hope one day to have one of these blushes; I have been wanting to try it for awhile!

Lucy Avatar

You’re welcome. Seriously, I can’t get over how great this looks on you! I’m tempted to try this now. The entire look is amazing. What’s on your eyes?

Marissa Avatar

I can’t wait to buy this! I like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes but none of the colors really look good with my fair skin tone. Plus I’m not a big fan of color, so this shade is perfect for me!

Megan Avatar

I have several of these blushes, including this one. I wore it today in fact. It wasn’t originally a color I thought I’d love, but honestly it’s really grown on me. I use it all the time. My skin is quite oily but I get great wear out of these blushes and I like that so many of them are matte. I don’t need unneccessary accents to my pores, so these are a staple for me now many days.

kate Avatar

Thanks for this review! I’ve been thinking of picking up one of these blushes (even though I was always suspicious of the 12 hour claim). That shade is absolutely lovely on you. The whole look is fresh and pretty.

Dusty Avatar

Nice color… I’m forever looking for a dupe for MAC’s Superdupernatural Mineralize Blush BTW (poke, poke, poke if you know of any Haha!) I remember swatching these in Sephora awhile back and thinking that the color Tipsy was really pretty… Haven’t picked it up yet though.

leah Avatar

I’m looking to get Blissful but probably not until spring. It’s the matte peach shade. It looks really orange in the pan but it’s really pretty when applied with a light touch.

Danika Avatar

I love these blushes! Mac blushes just do not last on my skin, so I often use these. Christine, what foundation are you wearing in this photo? I know you mentioned it on different review awhile ago, but I can’t find it. It looks really lovely!

Tiffany Avatar

I LOVE this blush!! I have all of the Tarte blushes except Dollface and I wear Exposed the most. Looks great on darker skin too… I am about an NC45 and it shows up beautifully.

Nichole Avatar

Me too! I’m NC45 and own four of Tarte’s blushes. I stayed away from Exposed thinking it wouldn’t show up. Mmmm Sephora’s VIB has been extended until tomorrow. Might pick it up.

Nayeli Avatar

I have this blush but in the shade tipsy, to be honest I was very disappointed with it, because like you said it doesn’t last 12 hours on me, it actually doesn’t last long. I do have oily skin but I use a primer and everything, and this blush is supposed to control oil and it doesn’t do for me, so overall i wouldn’t repurchase it.

Wenz Avatar

OMG LOOOVEE these Tarte Blushes! I got one in a sample set I ordered on QVC & loved it. Then, I sampled this one & bought it in the Sephora F&F sale….. I love that its matte & lasts for my work day. This is my new everyday blush!
I always wait for your blessing Christine…but couldn’t pass up the sale! SSOOO glad were on the same page 🙂

Angela Avatar

I agree. This blush definitely does not last 12 hours on me. However, I still love it because it makes my pores appear smaller. I usually put this blush over a cream blush to make it last longer.

Alexis Avatar

I have owned this blush for a few months now and I love it. I wear it almost on a daily basis. It’s a great everyday blush. I find the color similar to Mac Creamblend blush Brit Whit. The color is prefect for fall and it wears well throughout the day

Pappetee Avatar

Great swatches, Christine! I love the last photo… it looks softly pigmented and very feminine. If I didn’t own Chanel’s Rose Temptation, I would surely be purchasing this blush.

Brittany Avatar

If I could marry this blush I would, I use it more often than any other in my collection, I have a few of these blushes and they’re all AMAZING! Tipsy is a really great coral too, you have to try that one it would look great on you Christine!

Pamela M Avatar

Ha I’ve been wondering if you were going to review these blushes. I have two of them…I like them but they don’t last 12 hours on me either, I would say they last five to six hours on me but I have oily skin and blot all day. I still love my mac blushes.

Claudia Avatar

That is a really beautiful, natural blush on you! I’ve always been interested in these blushes but have never noticed the packaging..it’s amazing!

Ella Pretty Blog Avatar

I own two of the Tarte Amazonian clay blushers: exposed and amused.

I had high hopes for them – but I too found that they were not particularly long-wearing – just as long as most of my other blushes. The main reason I purchased them was because of their 12 hour claim.

Still – there is something lovely about the 2 colors I own, so I decided to keep them. And some days they are more long-wearing than others – which is very odd because my skincare and make-up remain the same!

I bought and returned Blissful – it gave me the worst sunburnt look ever LOL!

Morgan Avatar

I’ve tried 4 or so of Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes, and this one is by far my favorite for day to day wear. The way people describe “your lips, but better!” lipsticks is how I describe this blush on my cheeks. It’s such a natural glow and I feel like it looks good on every skin tone.

Morgan Avatar

I’ve also tried dollface, amused, blissful, and adored. I picked up exposed on a whim. At first, I wasn’t even sure that I would like it…but I am so glad that I grabbed it. I will definitely re-purchase. In fact, I might even gift it to some people this holiday season 🙂

Sandy Avatar

Bought this awhile ago, def a great blush for everyday, totally agree with you on that Christine. I love the whole look you have with this, can you tell me what eyeshadow you’re wearing in the full face photo? Or give a quick breakdown of what you’re wearing in the pic, foundation and eyeshadow wise. Thanks

fabiola Avatar

I have a lot of the tarte’s blushes, and this is my everyday blush. I goes with almost every look. I love them all, but I looks even better on your skin than it does in the pan. Once you try it, you won’t stop using it.

Adelita Avatar

Yaayyy… you finally did the review of this blush!
This is my to go blush (this or NARS Luster).
I think Exposed kinda reminds me of Benefit Dallas on my cheeks (and a wee bit similar to La Femme Glow-On Rouge Golden Dew Amber), how do you think?

Amanda Avatar

Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are my favorites! MAC and NARS powder blushes only last 2-3 hours on me (tops), and the Tarte ones last about 6-8 hours. I have Tipsy, Dollface, Blissful and Exposed, and I love them equally. I also like how easily they pop out of the case and into a palette (no de-potting required!). Just open the compact, give it a little pat on your hand, and the blush pan comes right out. It’s held in there by a magnet.

Jenny Avatar

I have a couple of these I got with QVC kits, and you are right, they do not last 12 hours. In fact they fade rather quickly on my skin. Possibly because I have oily skin, but that’s still disappointing since that is one of the big selling points. Glad I didn’t purchase them on their own, so I didn’t really pay full price.

Shannon Avatar

I agree 100% w/the person who said they didn’t find these blushes that special. I have “Exposed” & “Tipsy”. I love the colors, but find the texture chalky. Doesn’t matter what kind of brush I use either. My cheeks are dry, so that would be somewhat expected if it didn’t claim to hydrate dry skin, which it doesn’t at all for me. I also found this lasted only a few hours on me (3-4) before completely disappearing, which I don’t usually have at all. Most of my blushes are NARS & they are still vibrant even after I get home from work (& I have a very physical job where it’s super hot & I sweat). I think for the price there’s much better out there. But what doesn’t work for one works for another, which is definitely the case here. I wish I was enthusiastic as everyone else.

AmyD Avatar

oh my, this is pretty! i love natural makeup, and i’ve been lucky to have good results with all-natural brands of makeup such as aubrey organics and 100% pure. i’ve been hesitant, therefore, to experiment much with “natural” brands that nevertheless add silicones and other synthetic ingredients to their products, such as tarte and korres – that being said, i’ve had good results with the korres b5/rice bran mascara (got it as a gift) as well as several tarte lip glosses and waterproof mascara. this looks verrrry pretty – might have to consider as a xmas gift! 🙂

Jane Avatar

Never tried Tarte blush before. But seeing your review, I’m sure I’m going to get it soon. So pretty! Looks like it’s going to be a good everyday blush for me.

Ludwig Avatar

Boy am I kicking myself for not getting this during the Sephora VIB sale! It looks gorgeous on you Christine! Btw, what are you wearing on your lips in the photo?

Cedes Avatar

This is my absolute favorite blush at the moment. Exposed looks absolutely gorgeous when applied on my cheeks. I love it so much, I just purchased another shade, Dollface. Plus, 20% off was the best time to get it.

Cedes Avatar

Christine, I also want to say thank you for taking the time to talk to me back at the beauty social event. You were so kind and sweet so it definitely made my day when I got the opportunity to meet you:)

my Avatar

I have this blush too, it wore well for four to five hours on my combination/oily skin (it wore up to six hours when I used MakeUp Forever’s Mist and Fix)…have to give props to tarte, since I also live in a tropical country. I think it’s overall an above average blush for me. I also love nars blushes in Amour, Deep Throat, Dolce Vita and Orgasm. 🙂

Ang Avatar

I have several colors of this blush, but Exposed is definitely my favorite! It looks so great on my skin, and a little swipe gives me a nice natural glow, or I can build it up for something more dramatic. Also, it lasts quite awhile without having to touch up! I made it through a whole day’s worth of wedding activities (10am to midnight), and this was still on by the end of the night! Definitely worth the money in my opinion 🙂 Thanks for the review and swatches!

Nina Avatar

im def not a blush girl, but got one of these blushes on a whim and fell in love.

id say it wears around 10 hours on me, but i think thats because i always layer it over cream blush. i have yet to test how long it will wear w/o the extra layer of cream blush.

this is one of my faves, along w/ natural beauty and maybe dollface. 🙂

Karen Avatar

I’ve heard so much good stuff about this blush! And have ordered it through eBay as Singapore doesn’t sell Tarte. Unfortunately my package didn’t arrive after one month plus, it’s probably lost 🙁 if not I would have tried it and is able to give my 2 cents worth about this blush .. Sigh ..

asha Avatar

Ok believe me or not, I was looking for this review on temptalia yesterday morning, couldn’t find it and was thinking of writing to u.. U read my mind gal 🙂

Krystal Avatar

i LOVE this blush!!! it wears great and if i’m in a hurry and just don’t want to think about anything i grab this blush every time! It really is my go-to blush! All of there blushes are nice but this color is awesome, everyone should have it. 🙂

Katie Avatar

This is my HG blush! I have a few other Amazonian Clay blushes, and while I love all of them the color of this one is just perfect! It’s definitely what I reach for when I’m not sure how to finish a look. It’s funny because I was initially reluctant to buy it. I didn’t think it looked very pretty in the pan compared to some of the other colors offered. But once I put in on, I fell in love. Glad to see so many other people love this magnificent blush as much as I do!

Rachel Avatar

Hi Christine! Would you be able to do a review on the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in the shade “flush”. It looks like a great berry shade but wanted to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks!

lm Avatar

this looks a lot like korres natural and dallas. is it nude enough for contouring or too pink? (vs korres sunglow light bronzer for contouring which may be DC’d)

Jennifer Avatar

Christine, I am so glad you finally had the opportunity to review an Amazonian Clay blush! These are by far my favorite blushes; I completely stopped using my MAC ones. Moreover they made me discover the Tarte amazonian clay finishing powder (my HG powder–I stay matte all day long). Exposed is my go-to color but I did find the wear time to be around 8 hours as well. That being said, the two others I own (amused and blissful) stick like glue. The strangest of all is that when I wear amused it sticks longer to my bare skin (just washed and moisturized) than it does if wearing any foundation. I hope you have the opportunity to review more shades. I think you’ll find that the wear time for the brighter colors is much longer! 🙂

Molly Avatar

This is my favorite one so far. I wear it every day with a more neutral lip color. Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blushes are wonderful. The only ones I don’t like are the ones with glitter in it. I’m not a fan of chunky glitter in my blushes.

aditi Avatar

I just got this yesterday, and although it is pretty, I thought it had just a tad bit more redness in it than I would have ideally liked. Do you think Douceur or Blushbaby would work better? I have a medium olive skintone.

Katherine Avatar

Ive always been curious about this blush but Im about an NC 42 and I dont know if this will show up on my skin tone….. can anyone help me with this thanks!!!!
