What convinces you to try a new beauty brand?

What convinces you to try a new beauty brand?

Product reviews from people I trust that are favorable or else when readers are really interested in a new brand, then I might wing it – but it depends. A new brand at Sephora doesn’t make me as nervous about a bunch of drama behind the brand (certainly possible that there is, though), and the...

How do you incorporate new products into your skincare routine?

How do you incorporate new products into your skincare routine?

I try to only add a new product every two weeks and leave everything else the same, though something like a facial cleanser might not need to be done on such a strict timing routine. I don’t find I breakout/react easily to products or product switches. That being said, I also do not like to...

What are you not looking for in a foundation?

What are you not looking for in a foundation?

While I don’t mind sheerer coverage and see the need for it to exist, it’s usually not what I’m personally looking for (I’m more likely to go bare). I don’t like really dewy or luminous finishes on my skin. I prefer foundations to be fragrance-free so heavily scented foundations aren’t...

What do you look for in a foundation?

What do you look for in a foundation?

I like medium, buildable coverage that has a natural finish–not totally matte but not dewy either. I want it to dry down and feel comfortable but not tacky. I want it to wear for a solid eight to nine hours with minimal change. It should respond well to powder on top, whether setting powder or...

How do you decide what eye makeup to wear?

How do you decide what eye makeup to wear?

It usually is based on what I need to test next! If I have a few palettes that I’m testing, then I might coordinate with whatever else I’m testing/wearing or try to make both eyes “match” in a general sense, like neutrals on both eyes rather than bold blues on one and golds on the other!

How do you know when it's time to replace a makeup brush or tool?

How do you know when it's time to replace a makeup brush or tool?

For me, when a makeup brush seems to shed noticeably, which makes it seem like it is falling apart, or no longer feels as soft as it used to would be when I’d consider replacing it. For other tools, when they no longer do the job they’re supposed to; maybe an eyelash curler that doesn’t give...

What brands are most consistent in quality?

What brands are most consistent in quality?

Anastasia, Bite Beauty, ColourPop, Make Up For Ever, and Tom Ford all came to mind. They’ve all had a few misses, but I feel like, usually, they’re quite good (or in line with what I’d expect from the brand, even if not technically perfect based on claims).

What brands do you hold to a higher standard than others?

What brands do you hold to a higher standard than others?

When reviewing, I don’t hold certain brands over others, but personally, I expect high quality if a brand is going to charge a premium for their products–there is no justification for something like poor texture, short wear, etc.

What brands seem to be getting better and better?

What brands seem to be getting better and better?

Bite Beauty seems like a really strong brand with very few misses. I think that MAC has been getting better in terms of quality over the last year or two, compared to the previous years, but not quite as good as what I recall a decade ago.

What brand seems to be going downhill?

What brand seems to be going downhill?

Too Faced feels like they’re just into selling, selling, selling “cute” packaging and themes but don’t pay much attention to the quality (or, at the very least, consistency in quality) of the actual product.
