Not much on my end since I am usually buying something to review rather than for personal use. If there’s a particular item I need for myself, then I usually try to find reviews by a few people I trust, but I often purchase based on my own, past experience with the brand and their products.

MAC eyeshadows, to me, are in desperate need of a re-do… not just because I feel like many shades could benefit from an improved formula, but the shade range itself has so many gaps as they’ve discontinued shades over the years (without adding that many into it).
Pat McGrath Decadence palette – I think that the expectation for PMG products is extremely high, and this palette really delivered.
When their “about us” shows that they have either real passion or experience to indicate that starting a brand was authentic and not just a thing to do, I’m more likely to try. Otherwise, when I see enough readers request it is usually what will push me off the fence!

I like a little of everything OR I like focus on a single formula that’s amazing. I could be happy with a few lipsticks, a couple of glosses, quad or similar for eyes, and a few cheek products, but I also find that I dig collections that are a new formula (say a lipstick) in 10 shades.
I try to run down the reasons I should, like I’ve already spent $X for the month so I should wait until the next month to spend more, or it’s more likely I’ll look at my never-ending list of things to review and go, “You really need to review some of those things before you buy more...
For me, it’s mostly making sure it’s functional and space-saving. I’d rather a palette that’s slim with no wasted space than lots of pretty packaging.
