Do you like having your makeup done by someone else?

Do you like having your makeup done by someone else?

When the makeup artist is particularly good, definitely — I like to see the outcome — but I wouldn’t say I find it relaxing/enjoyable to have someone else put makeup on me as an actual act.

What was the last beauty tool that changed your routine?

What was the last beauty tool that changed your routine?

I wouldn’t say changed in a life-altering level kind of way, but it takes a lot for me to really add brushes into my go-tos because I am fortunate enough to have a lot of exceptional brushes already (and only so much room!). That being said, I have found that many of Sonia G.’s brushes have...

How do you figure out what colors to use in a look from a pre-made palette?

How do you figure out what colors to use in a look from a pre-made palette?

I usually divide the palette into two or three looks so that I can make sure to test each shade, so it might be by undertone (cool/warm), vibe (neutrals vs. vibrant color), or trying to mix finishes – like darker matte shades for crease/transition shades and lighter shimmers as inner tearduct/brow...

Will you try to use up products you don't like?

Will you try to use up products you don't like?

I’m fortunate that my life revolves around a constant inflow of new beauty products so there’s no reason to use up something I don’t like because 1) I rarely finish anything (and it’s not a goal), 2) I have so much that I might as well use something I LOVE and try to finish that! If I put on...

How many shades in a palette do you have love to make it worth buying?

How many shades in a palette do you have love to make it worth buying?

For me, it’s more about key shades – like if there’s a matte beige that I likely won’t use but lots of other interesting shades, that’s good enough for me. I feel like a good rule of thumb is 75% of the palette has to be usable / fit my purpose – and obviously in more edited formats like...

What brand do you love but are starting to lose interest in?

Tom Ford! Some of the recent releases have been lacking in quality or have been inconsistent, and it’s not a price point that can afford to be inconsistent and retain its customer base, IMO.

What's the worst beauty product you've ever used?

It really might be Ciate’s The Jessica Eyeshadow Palette. I went through some of my F ratings from past years, and there weren’t very many reviews that were THAT low across the board.

What are three face products you used frequently years ago but rarely use now?

MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation was a go-to along with the MAC 187 brush to apply it (which I never reach for any more). I was also a big user of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural back in the day!

What are eye products you used frequently years ago but rarely use now?

I used to use MAC Pigments ALL the time in looks (before I was really reviewing), like Chartreuse. I also used MAC Graphblack Technakohol on my waterlines all the time along with MAC Plushlash mascara!

What are three cheek products you used frequently years ago but rarely use now?

Oh, it’d definitely be MAC products! I used to contour all the time with Sculpt, blush with Margin or Sunbasque! I still love both of those blushes… but there are other formulas/shades I love a wee bit more ultimately!
