Sheet Masks

I love that you don’t have to worry about shelf life after opening, since they’re typically (always?) sold individually, and it’s always just the right amount of product going onto the face. Of course, there is more waste from single-use anything, so that’s the downside.

Matte Foundation

I think matte foundation can make skin appear really smooth, but it can also make skin look flat and lifeless, so there’s a fine line between matte and smooth and dull and matte! I also tend to prefer less dewy finishes, as foundations usually get a little dewy after they’re worn for a few hours, so I’d rather start more matte and get to slightly dewy by the end of the day then look like I’m melting!

Setting Spray

Sometimes I am skeptical of their efficacy, but some of them definitely do work, though not necessarily hours upon hours of extended wear! I think figuring out the right distance/amount can be tricky!

Blush Palettes

I think anything over three or four shades starts to be hard to use evenly. The larger the palette, the more variations in color/undertone there might be, and not everyone wants to use every color for blush. They can also get quite large! I prefer trios that are smaller than full-sized but have pans large enough that can be used with most blush/highlighter brushes.

Fall Makeup

Sometimes I feel like there is not much variation on fall color schemes, like it may be one of the less inspired seasons – maybe it’s because more brands focus on holiday line-ups? I’m not sure. I love the earthy, more subdued tones of fall, so it is nice to see them.

Cream Highlighters

They are usually too subtle for my personal preference, but I like how easy they blend out, and they very rarely emphasize pores/skin texture, so they are nice for those who find powder to be too prone to doing those things. I like them mostly for layering with powder highlighters, though.

Powder Bronzers

I think a lot of them are warmer than they need to be! Sometimes they run too orange or too yellow. When you find one that really adds warmth to the skin but doesn’t conflict with your undertones/coloring, it is great, though!

Summer Makeup

I’m infinitely appreciative of the drier heat where I live, compared to humidity, because sometimes I can’t fathom wearing makeup with very high heat and humidity! I love the colors/finishes of typical summer makeup–bronzes, corals, metallic finishes–and I dig dewy skin these days, too, which I find makes a stronger appearance every summer.

Limited Edition Launches

I don’t like when anything sells out in a matter of hours; I just think it’s frustrating, and it seems unnecessary–I feel like it creates the illusion that you have to buy or else you’re missing out. I don’t mind that some products are limited edition to coincide with a season or trend, but I think more brands should bring back shades/formulas into their permanent ranges when they prove successful AND fill a need in their ranges. (I think limited edition formulas, though, are super annoying!)

Facial Mists

They sure feel nice on a hot day or help if you’ve over-applied any powder-based products, but whether they’re doing a lot for my skin, I’m not sure. I keep a few that I happen to have in the refrigerator and use when I need a pick-me-up.
