Swatches: Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick
Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.03 oz.) is new formula that is available in 32 shades (two are exclusive to Hourglass’ website and are not pictured below). The lipsticks are available with packaging for $34 (includes the shade you purchase, it’s not an empty tube!) or as refills for $22. The refill packaging is sufficient for standalone use, as it has a cap that clicks back into place and has its own base that allows you to twist it up.
Worth noting, 0.03 oz. is one of the smallest lipstick sizes I’ve come across (even slim lipsticks are typically 0.07 oz., whereas more standard tubes contain 0.10 oz. or 0.12 oz.), and by the ounce, it ended up being one of the most expensive lipsticks on the market (I’ll have more specific comparisons in my first review).
These look nice, can’t wait for the reviews!
I’m liking I’ve Been, I Can’t Live Without, and I Hide My.
I’m drawn to I Can’t Live Without, but I can’t tell you how much I appreciate reading your comment about the price per ounce making it one of the most expensive lipsticks on the market. I never finish lipsticks, ever, so small isn’t a problem for me, but seeing it as a price per ounce makes all the difference in how I view it. Thank you Christine for doing the hard work so I don’t have to!
I was so shocked at the size!
Yeah, I think whether it’s a deal-breaker just comes down to how you use products 🙂 If, like you said, you never finish lipsticks, $34 vs. $34 is the real question ($22 for a refill), not so much price per ounce!
I just purchased I Lust For since it was at the Sephora (limited shades were there not the whole line). The packaging is what sold me, I like it 🙂
Thank you for the pricing analysis! That takes care of that for me. Pity because I like the Hourglass lip stylos and have several, but for the few shades in this release that interest me, dupes will suffice.
If the performance holds up with that price, I suppose that these could be good options for people who rarely finish a full tube of lipstick but still want something of high quality. (Though, I must admit, I am still a bit taken aback at how small they are. lol) Your commentary on the matter was super helpful!
Due to the paltry amount of product per $’s and other objectionable issues with it, I will just be checking out the dupes for the ones I really love. Who knows? Unbeknownst to me, I may already have dupes for the ones I’m feeling drawn to. #ThePerilsOfOwningTooManyLipsticks
I usually don’t complain about price making a product “good” or “bad” since it’s each consumer’s individual choice whether or not to buy, but I’m still pretty shocked. I’ve had sample lipsticks bigger than that!
These are pretty and look moisturizing. Will await reviews. Love the packaging!
I will always gladly pay more for a product that I love, and I love this lipstick. The colors are amazing, I have I Want, and the color payoff is amazing, plus on top of that, it’s not drying and it stayed on through dinner. I was very impressed.
Even better for me was the packaging. The long, slim gold case you get with the $34 lipsticks makes application very easy. My mom has a disability that make it hard for her to grab onto things and she finds that pencil and pen shaped containers are easier than bullet. As soon as I showed her the packaging, she got excited, ready to try on the lipstick and hold the container. She instantly knew that it was the perfect fit for her. She also loves the wide arrange of nude and beige tones ( we picked out I’ll Never Stop for her). Watching her be able to apply her own lipstick and loving the results make this lipstick worth every penny for me!
Aww that’s heartwarming Sydney. So glad your Mom is enjoying her lipstick!
I think you may be the only person to actually show the list of ingredients, so thank you for that. For the size and price I hope they have a texture/slip similar to Chanel Rouge Coco Stylo lipsticks. Otherwise I don’t see these lasting long at all with regular use.
They’re not posted online as far as I can tell, and they’re not included in the press box – I just happened to buy all of the shades right before I found out Hourglass was sending samples, so I was able to snap photos of the retail packaging!
I love the colours, but I’m wondering why they would release these so close on the heels of the Girl Lip Stylo. I’m looking forward to reading your comments on the new formula versus the not-quite-so-new one… Seeing the cost makes me think it might be worth it to get one with the full packaging and others as a refill, and I could just switch them around when I needed to put them in my purse.
Wow, how many almost identical nude shade does one need in a lipstick range… They look pretty on the lips but not more than any other good creamy lipstick, so with so little product in the tube I’m not really interested, at this price point.
Yikes, these are tiny!!! When I saw the .03 oz on Sephora, I thought it was a typo, but yep, per oz, this would be one of the most expensive lippies on the market. And while the colors are gorgeous, not sure I can justify the price .
Is it just me, or are “If I Could” and “When I’m Alone” identical?
Doesn’t matter; at this price per ounce, it’s not happening.
I thought the same thing too!
To me, When I’m Alone looks more red-toned than If I Could.
Love I Can’t Live Without. Don’t love the price per oz. Will wait for review and possibly purchase if it’s a high performer.
Despite loving Hourglass, I think I’ll pass on these. There are no really original/stand colours for me so it will be easy to find dupes for the ones that appeal, especially when their price is considered.
They look lovely, but too expensive for my wallet.
The swatches look pretty good, but I am wondering why the brand has put out so many nude shades that look fairly similar?
Something for everyone and quite a few for me.
Yeah I would go for the cheaper packaging because I can rarely finish a tube of lip stick. I think brands should make more small sized products as an option for purchase but at a better price point. These look color saturated and moist. I like the brights!
I like the look of “I’ve Been Confession” for fall 🙂
Ouch. I love the concept and the finish on the swatches looks sophisticated (neither too dewy, nor too heavy). So I definitely think this would be a case of seeing whether or not the formula is worth the drop the bomb incredible price per ounce figure. Overall, I’m not seeing shades that look incredibly unique. If the formula has excellent cling and durability, I might be inclined to try a shade I would wear frequently, but I am by no means leaping into the fire at this price point.
Even tinier than the tiny surratt one for the same price — yikes?
Do any of these have shimmer similar to their old formula in Edition? Can you think of any dupes for that shade?
The reds are gorgeous but the lipstick wouldn’t last me a day. The amount is way too small for the price. It kind of feels like a ripoff considering that you can buy a cheap full sized lipstick that contains about 0.15 oz at any drug store. :/
They are really trying it with these prices and product amounts (or lack thereof). These will be a hard pass for me.
