Swatch Saturday: Marc Jacobs Beauty LoveMarc Lip Gels Photos & Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty LoveMarc Lip Gel
As promised, here are the remaining swatches of the Marc Jacobs Beauty LoveMarc Lip Gel ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) shades. Marc Jacobs Beauty has a deal where you can get any three shades for $70 (instead of $90) (use code LIPKIT, ends 12/16), which I took advantage of when I bought these twelve. I still haven’t heard back whether or not this formula is being discontinued (as Sephora only shows eight of the 17-shade range, and of the eight, five are out of stock).

It’s a more emollient formula with a fair amount of slip–the darker shades seemed to have the most slip–and I have found that the creamier finishes perform better than the more shimmery ones. I could feel the pearl in Little Pretty, which I wouldn’t describe as gritty, but the consistency was thin enough that it wasn’t smooth (I’d just describe it as textured). Some shades are really pigmented, others are semi-opaque to semi-sheer. In my experience with the formula (I’ve only tested a handful of shades previously), the formula is typically hydrating and comfortable to wear, and the creamier shades were the best-performing for me. I haven’t tested any of these.

Ooo I love these on you! Especially Saboteur and Voila! 🙂
Thanks, Divya!
Roleplay and Understudy definitely stand out for me, so pretty!
I like those types of colors a lot!
I haven’t tried any of these out before, but it sure looks like a beautiful line of colors!
They do have some nice shades!
Out of all of these I think I like Understudy best. Thank you again for swatching all of these for us. I can’t even imagine the amount of hours you put in to swatching/testing products for us- it is much appreciated.
My pleasure, Jenny!
I like all but the first two. Little Pretty is intriguing, with the purple-wine color and sparkles.
I wish the formula suspended the pearl/sparkle better, though!
The darker colors, Little Pretty and Saboteur are so pretty, my kind of shades, but the swatches look kind of uneven, and since they are more slippery, it’s not going to go well with my SPF 15 lip balm 🙁
I don’t think it would work well with balm 🙁
Hmm, on you I prefer role play, roll the dice and viola. For me I’d probably go with roll the dice, viola, sabotuer, and little pretty.
Fun! 🙂
Must have Surrender Dorothy for the name alone!
It is a nice name! I wish it was redder. It was way more orange than anticipated!
I almost want to give his lipsticks another chance. Lol almost. Those pinks are beautiful!
Aww!
I really like the first 2, and apparently I’m the *only* one, LOL!
Well, no competition or rush to make sure you can get them, lol!
Roleplay, Voila and Little Pretty are calling my name! I think I speak for all of us when I say that I really do appreciate all the work and effort that you put into swatching, test-driving and then writing out your reviews for all these products. Especially the lippies! Because that has got to hurt after, say, number 4 or 5?
It gets a little wearing after ten or so 😉 Five is easy peasy! Though it can depend on formula. Matte lipsticks are more wearing faster!
You’re rocking pretty much all of these, LOL! Severine looks like your perfect ‘skin’ nude – I wonder if Strange Magic would do the same for me, LOL! (unlike you though, I’d still look dead ^_^)
I really like Understudy and Role Play on you 🙂 I want to get Little Pretty myself (I never mind grit, for some reason, almost no matter how chunky, provided the lipstick is therwise nice – I’m weird like that) I could wish it were a tiny bit more even for a dark colour though.
P.S. DEAR MARC: PLEASE MAKE CABARET PERMANENT. THX, Syl. 😉
I feel like if I’m rushing around, I don’t notice texture as much so it’s not annoying, but if I’m sitting at my desk, it’s like nails on a chalkboard!
I really love quite a few of these on you!!! I have a question for you Christine, Voila and Role the Dice look almost exactly the same swatched, to me. What difference do you see in them swatched, or is there hardly any difference?
They’re definitely not polar opposites or anything. Roll the Dice is lighter, brighter, and bluer, whereas Voila is ultimately more muted and “warmer” though it is still a pinky-fuchsia and isn’t actually a warm fuchsia. Haven’t said that, I wouldn’t argue that they’re significantly different by any means as those differences I mentioned are all very slight! I was surprised that they’re as similar as they are (I expected Voila to be redder and warmer).

Thanks!!! It seems it would be really hard to choose between these two if I try to get one of them!
Surrender Dorothy and Saboteur are the only ones I like and these two really suit you Christine. They look lovely on you.
Ahh, I’m not sure which I like best! :p
I was just checking the Sephora website to use the VIB Rouge holiday gift card to get Marc Jacobs lipstick in Neo-Noir and saw that it wasn’t there anymore 🙁 I wonder what’s going on
Wow – these look like they’re great! Can’t wait to see ratings. It’s funny how the swatch doesn’t seem so opaque but it looks like better coverage on the lips!
They all look good on you, but, Severine is stunning! It just gives a perfect balance and brings out the eyes too.
Saboteur looks nothing like what I expected from the tube, but it is pretty. I love Strange Magic – love those super pale nudes!
I find myself mesmerized by the sparklies buried in the lipstick in the tube photo.
Saboteur is beautiful, and I LOVE the name “Surrender Dorothy!”
Gah! I meant “buried in the lipstick in the tube photo of Little Pretty.”
“Surrender Dorothy” and “Little Pretty”, cute names lol
The pinks are gorgeous!
Roleplay and Understudy are so pretty, and definitely the winners for me! Can you tell I’m in a neutral phase? Haha.
All look so lovely, in my opinion, minus the candy yum yums, but it’s your EYES that are the star!! CHRISTINE! Beautiful!! Especially with the paler & nide lippies! Sizzling! Oooo, girl! 😀
