Must-have styling tool or product? T3 Hairdryer, John Frieda Straight Fixation

-Warm light-medium
-Every two days
-Whatever is on sale (have yet to find one that does enough for me to continue buying it so I just accept the fact that they are just to clean and condition my hair and expect nothing else from them)
-Any serum (have not found a HG for my wavy frizzy hair yet but I have to put something in it)

I am obviously frustrated with my hair.

Blue Avatar

Have you ever tried Curls Creamy Curl Cleanser? I like it a LOT more than Diva Curl, which I found deeper cleaning than most sulfate-free products but almost as bad for frizz as a regular shampoo. I’m wavy-frizzy too, and it’s the only thing I’ve repurchased so far, though I do put a harsher shampoo in my rotation because I get buildup over time with it. My boyfriend is very very curly and doesn’t have issues with that, he doesn’t shampoo with anything else anymore. Just putting that out there. 🙂

krachael00 Avatar

Your hair sounds pretty similar to mine — I randomly purchased the Head & Shoulders Smooth and Silky shampoo/conditioner (even though I don’t have dandruff — I don’t know if that makes any difference), because it was on sale, and I really like it! The shampoo doesn’t strip your hair and the conditioner isn’t super heavy; I haven’t had, like, ANY frizz issues since using it. Plus it’s cheap! It’s just really conditioning. And smells great. Hope this helps!

Olivia Avatar

I have never tried head and shoulders, I always thought it was for dandruff too! Thanks, that definitely helps and I will try this one out too. I have never repurchased a shampoo and conditioner so I am hoping that changes with one of these suggestions!

Skintone/Coloring: Fairly light, very neutral; dark-featured.

Frequency: 1-2 times a week in cooler weather, 2-3 in hotter months. I have dry, coarser hair, and I don’t use styling products on a regular basis, so I can get by on less frequent hair washing.

Go-To Shampoo/Conditioner: Whatever I find on sale… However, for my daughter who has a thick mass of fine hair prone to tangling, we’ve found Paul Mitchell “The Detangler” to be absolutely HG! We’ve tried sooo many things over the years, and have recently stumbled upon this gem.

Must Have Tool/Product: Aside from the aforementioned conditioner for my daughter, I’m perfectly fine with a brush, towel, and headband/ponytail holder, LOL!

How often do you wash your hair? once every 3 to 4 days…sometimes even longer in the winter.
What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I prefer Aveda and incorporate the Invati shampoo every other shampoo to help with thinning hair.
Must-have styling tool or product? Can’t live without Oribe styling products. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is my fav. I have short very choppy hair and this lends some body and texture to my super fine strands.

I just want to thank you for your concealer tip (to apply concealer and then colour corrector) and the best tip was not to powder. That has made a huge difference. Thank you!

Nicole Avatar

Wendy, Me too! Thanks a ton!I adjusted a bit though. I still am doing the corrector under though. I do use the orange by Armani. I tried it once over. I really noticed no difference except that I can get a better feel for where to place it by putting the concealer after. Plus it is straight orange, so I think I was worried it would look orange. I tried skipping eye cram and that did not work for me But, my skin is dry. So I just use very little of my eye cream and am skipping the powder. Your right, it last less long. But, I just pop my concealer and corrector in my bag and made a small take-a-long of eye cream. Much easier to touch up than a powdered-over under eye. Many Thanks to you my friend! 🙂

Nicole Avatar

I agree Wendy! Besides getting smarter on which products to buy and not buy, I’ve picked up so much
helpful info as far as my beauty routine goes. Also, just my attitude regarding it is different. I used to be a little embarrassed because I really did not know there was actually people who had an actual “collection” of makeup. My sister had me talked into seeing a psychiatrist at one point about it! Now,im like..it’s my $.my finances are straight otherwise, mind yo business, lol.I love Temptalia and the community just as much! I’m addicted. If Christine shuts it down,I will go into withdrawal!:D

helen Avatar

Skin colouring – NC15-ish
How often do i wash my hair – 2-3 times a week (used to wash everyday but i find i was stripping all the oils out of it!)
Go-to Shampoo – created by my colourist, his own brand (which is a symbol – like when Prince changed his name to a symbol – and 112 – which is the number of his salon). Sounds kinda pretentious but the shampoo and conditioner are amazing!
Must-have styling products – Shu Uemera’s Fiber Lift and L’Oreal Professional SteamPod cream (that truly coats the hair from all heat!!)
Styling tools – i’m in desperate need of a new hairdryer (any suggestions for fine hair?) and loving my Click’nCurl set!!

Genna Avatar

The Drybar hair dryer- it’s yellow- I think it’s called the Buttercup- is awesome! I don’t dry my hair too often, but when I do, it does an awesome job- and quickly!
I’ve heard GHD had good dryers too!

Lotus Avatar

I’ve used the T3 for a long time and it’s super gentle with great time and a cold press, and I also have a sensitive scalp along with fine hair, it that helps. 🙂 I hope you find what suits you best!

helen Avatar

Thank you both for the blow dryer suggestions! I think that all of the choices are sold at Sephora so i will just have to wait until November to get the best deal possible.
Temptalia readers are the best!!!

Lotus Avatar

Absolutely! And I so agree with you! Temptalia readers are the best! Look above at Wwendy and how she was searching for a new solution for her under eyes and finally found it! When she posted that.. Others saw and lol at them thanking her so much! It’s such s beautiful thing! So many have been so utterly helpful and kind to me, if not have placed orders confidently without them! And Christine is amazing! This really is such a wonderful place! I have the featherlight t3 I purchased a a deal on hsn eons ago but if you google and really dig in, you can find serious bargains in places you’d never expect that allow returns! Try the company website! Usually the first purchase makes them happy and offers you a deal! (Like with clarisonic) So all hope is found! I’m so glad we could help and I hope you find a compatible price soon! 🙂 XOXO!!!

■How often do you wash your hair? about 3x/week. I alternate between an anti-dandruff shampoo and sulfate-free curly hair shampoos. Seems to be working well, though there are always better and worse days as opposed to conistent results using a rotation.
■What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I don’t actually have a conditioner right now! Seba med for dandruff days and Curls Creamy Curl Cleanser my frizzy waves when they are dirty but not dandruff-ey. I love both products and am happy for the chance to recommend them!

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Living Proof – either Full or PHD

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I’ve been using Herbal Essences Color Me happy, it’s not sulfate free but I don’t find that it strips my hair color like most shampoos with sulfates do
Must-have styling tool or product? I usually air dry my hair or blow dry with the Rusk W8less hairdryer (Christmas gift)

Lotus Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fairest possible with cool undertones.
How often do you wash your hair? Once a week. Less is more I’ve learned! 🙂
What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I use a few as a routine: I start with Sachajuan Scalp therapy shampoo and give it a real good cleanse, massaging scalp intensely, then I follow with Agave Smoothing Shampoo, them Agave Smoothing Conditioner. I then use Agave Oil before blow drying gently, and finish with Oribe Gold Lustre oil Drops. 🙂
Must-have styling tool or product? Oribe dry texturizing spray, Oribe dry soft conditioning spray, and the Agave brush as well as oil. I never use any tools other than safe for hair elastics to hold bins and ponytails. My hair curls if I just twist my finger around it or twist it. Otherwise it’s straight. It’s like a dehydrated yet thin hair that acts like thick hair. This routine works well so in happy. I do go through A LOT of the Oribe soft conditioner spray, and it’s pricey, but using the agave oil mitigates that a bit! 🙂

How often do you wash your hair? Every third day (My hair reaches my belly button so I like to avoid washing it as much as I can. Haha!)
What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I swear by Mane n Tail shampoo but I don’t have any preference in conditioner. I am always trying different ones.
Must-have styling tool or product? I only blow dry/heat style for special occasions so a leave in conditioner is a must for fighting frizz. I really love the one by Macadamia.

Nancy T Avatar

Skintone/coloring: Medium with olive undertones, deep brunette, teal green eyes with gold flecks.
How often do you wash your hair: Once per week. I happen to have long, thick, dry, frizzy, curly Latina hair, so my hair stays clean and non greasy for quite some time. But it’s an absolute PITA to do mine!
What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner: I love two shampoos that have been working really well on my hair, Matrix Biolage Exquisite Oil Moringa Oil Blend, and also Creme Of Nature Detangling & Conditioning Shampoo w/ Sunflower & Coconut oil. My favorite conditioner is OGX Anti-Breakage Keratin Oil conditioner, and afterwards I follow up with a great leave in Matrix Biolage Keratindose Pro-keratin & Silk spray followed w/ Matrix Biolage Exquisite Oil Protective Treatment Moringa Oil Blend.
Must-have styling tool or product: One ‘n Only Brazilian Tech Smoothing Lotion for my straightening blow-out. And for when I pull my hair up into a high ponytail or bun, I use Silk Elements Straight Edges Edging Gel so that my fly-aways and baby hairs stay up and back off my face.
Like I said, my hair is a pain in the butt!!!

How often do you wash your hair? 5-6 days a week (I sauna a lot and run, I really can’t do less otherwise my scalp goes nuts)

Must-have styling tool or product? Macadamia hair oil spray (makes my hair soft and manageable).

How often do you wash your hair?: Depends on how much product I put in it. With, usually every other day; without usually every 2-3 days.

How often do you wash your hair? twice a week
What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I colour my hair so I use either Biolage (which my colourist uses) or Joico for coloured hair; conditioner….I rarely use a trad. conditioner any more but when I do, it’s usually Redken All Soft or AG UltraMoist but I am more likely to use a leave in and I have way too many on the rotation – Ojon Damage Reverse Serum, AG Fast Food Leave in or their new BB cream, Moroccan Oil or Macadamia Oil, Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener (and these are just my “faves” – I have about half a dozen other products that I don’t use as often because I don’t like them as much). One of my best ways to get the hair I want is to mix Moroccan Oil and the Aveda Glossing Straightener.
Must-have styling tool or product? My flat iron. Honestly, a good flat iron has changed my life. My original CHI is still going strong but I did buy another one last summer as I needed something “dual voltage”. I often don’t even bother blowing my hair dry any more, which lessens the damage. I also got a ridiculously expensive but really great clamping comb thingy for flat ironing my hair) for lifting and holding the tricky bits at the back without burning my fingers). Oh, I just looked online and it’s called a “tension comb”.

Your skin tone/coloring: Light warm-neutral. Finally I’ve come to understand it!

How often do you wash your hair?: Every other day, sometimes every day depending on how often I’m working out.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Shea Moisture because it’s cheap but has far fewer of the nasty stuff most cheap shampoos/conditioners have!

Must-have styling tool or product? I don’t do much hairstyling, but I use Kinky Curly’s Curling Custard to smooth down my flyaways.

How often do I wash my hair: usually 2 times a week, sometimes 3 in hot weather.
Go-to shampoo and Conditioner: Alterna caviar. But I got a 500 point perk of Bumble and Bumble hairdresser’s oil set and have been using it and actually like it just as much. I think it’s cheaper. So, I may look into it or something else once I am out.
Must-have styling tool or product: I have 2. I good heat protectant and Oribe texture spray

How often do you wash your hair? Every two or three days. I color my hair and it’s was not super-oily to begin with.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Quantum Riveting Reds Color Replenishing Shampoo or John Frieda Radiant Red Colour Magnifying Daily Shampoo; John Frieda
Radiant Red Colour Magnifying Daily Conditioner.

Must-have styling tool or product? I don’t style my hair fancy very often. A hairbrush and a stretch-comb headband or a ponytail elastic are my usual. If I want to get fancy, the Bed Head Deep Waver: It’s the only thing that works on my hair. Curling iron curls just fall out instantly.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Chagrin Valley Ayurvedic Herb solid bar shampoo! I rarely condition as my hair is super short and it doesn’t get frizzy

Must-have styling tool or product? Dry shampoo and hairspray for days I don’t wash. Because my hair is so short, I spray it in place or else it’s just everywhere.

Maggie Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: My coloring? Don’t you want to know my hair type? That influences the products you pick. I’m light olive with dark eyes & hair. My straight hair is medium textured, shoulder-length, layered, and I have enough of it for three people.

How often do you wash your hair? 2-3 times per week. More often if the weather is warm of if I work up a sweat.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Head & Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo for dandruff. I follow that with L’Oreal Evercreme Nourishing Shampoo bc it’s silicone-free and has oils (most dandruff shampoos have silicone and silicone build-up flattens hair at my roots–so the L’oreal Evercreme helps me get rid of some silicone without stripping). I follow with L’Oreal Evercreme Nourishing Conditioner unless I use a hair mask. I haven’t found a hair mask I love but right now, I’m using Dermorganic’s.

Must-have styling tool or product? A hairdryer and some sort of leave-in with some heat protection. Right now, that’s L’oreal Colour Vibrancy Spray.

How often do you wash your hair? Everyday. My hair gets out of shape easily. Only after washing and blow-drying can I restyle it.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner?Currently it’s Brazilliant from Lush Cosmetics. I love their shampoo bar since I’m in between places and I shower at the gym i go to. So size matters, the smaller the better. And those 3 oz. shampoo bars last 1.5 months (sometimes more!) on my short yet very thick hair on a daily wash base. For conditioner I go with Aveeno. They are pretty good in that price range with lots of discounts available in multiple drugstores.

Must-have styling tool or product? blow dryer and round brush. I use Drybar’s full-pint medium round brush.

How often do you wash your hair? “Don’t wash your hair every day! Wash your hair as infrequently as possible! I haven’t washed my hair in 5 years!” Well, I tried. I really did. But I finally went back to washing my hair every day and it’s been so much better – my scalp isn’t as dry, itchy, and flaky; and my hair isn’t as oily. I use sulfate-free shampoo, so it’s not as harsh.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? I like the OGX brand, but I always have L’Oreal Everpure Sulfate-Free Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner and Trader Joe’s brand conditioner (that stuff is the best!)

Must-have styling tool or product? Hot air brush! And Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream and Kerastase Oleo-Relax serum.

How often do you wash your hair? Every other day – my hair is short and can get a bit greasy on day two, but I hate washing it more often.

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Sebastian Color Ignite Mono! I never wanted to make the step up in cost, because I was happy with my Redken, but after being given some Sebastian products, I now love them!! Plus it’s actually lasted me an insanely long time. I finally ran out of the Sebastian shampoo recently, and I had a bottle of Redken shampoo in the cupboard, but I’m nowhere near as happy with it now.

Must-have styling tool or product? It’s a tough call between my hairdryer and my straighteners, but it would have to be my hairdryer. I can’t get enough volume out of my hair if I air dry it!

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Aussie Moisture shampoo and 3 minute Miracle deep conditioner, or lush shampoo bars. I still have some B&B surf hair left as well, the shampoo is good but the conditioner doesn’t really do much for me.
Must-have styling tool or product? I always use a serum or oil after washing my hair, otherwise it gets mega frizzy. Also, dry shampoo is always necessary! The Dove one is fantastic, I go through them so quickly though.

Shampoo: Tressemmee
Conditioner: Tressemmee for curly hair or for dry/damaged hair

Styling tools: I don’t use styling tools because my hair is naturally curly but when I want to style and straighten it I use a Corioliss flat iron that can also be used to curl your hair with.
I prefer to wear my hair curly it’s unique and beautiful besides it will not stay straight in humidnweather

Kim Avatar

I’m naturally neutral to cool and VERY fair, but I selftan myself up to what’s probably an NC30.
I typically wash my hair twice a week. A little more if I’ve been wearing it straightened, since I touch it more then and the lack of texture shows oil more. A little less (yes, seriously) if it’s curled because the hairspray and the curls make it look cleaner longer.
I haven’t found a ride or die yet for my frizzy, coarse, wavy hair. I rotate through a few, like Sexy Smooth Hair, Pureology Hydrate, and the John Frieda Volumizing ones, but my favorite is Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day.
I love It’s a 10 Plus Keratin, Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Plus, and my 1″ Sultra curling wand.

Washing: Whenever my hair wants it. Usually twice a week. Sometimes more if I have been doing yard work. If it feels dirty, wash it. My hair is curly so it does get wet everyday, can’t brush it because tge curls lose all their volume and I look like a cocker spaniel in a show coat.
Shampoo/Conditioner: Lush’s Big (the sea salt feels so good!) and veganese (nice and lightweight so the curls are bouncy)
Styling Tools/Product: coconut oil if my scalp gets dry and Miss Jessie’s Quick Curls if I am wearing my hair down for the day. A wide tooth comb and boar bristle brush for smoothing fly aways

How often do you wash your hair? 2 to 3 times a week

What’s your go-to shampoo and/or conditioner? Boots coconut & almond shampoo and Garnier the sleek restorer 1 minute treatment

Must-have styling tool or product? I don’t really style my hair, I sometimes use a “beach waves”-type spray or a bit of gel, but that’s all
