Wow, it’s so awesome to see traditional DS brands do some non-traditional lip colors! Uh oh, waaaaay too many I like here. Eyeing all of the browns, brown reds (especially Smoking Red!!!) and maybe a blue. Yikes, between Maybelline, UD Vice, Colour Pop, and BITE, this lipstick junkie is in big trouble!

Helena Avatar

I hear you. Here in Spain (and European countries in general) we do not receive full collections from American brands. From the creamy matte one we only have six shades and some of the colours are completely different.?

Hi, for the Berry Bossy lip photo I believe you posted the Blackest Berry lip photo by mistake twice. It looks like the exact same photo and the color looks the same too. My Berry Bossy is more deep fuschia berry like the arm swatch shows. 🙂
Thanks for all your hard work! I never by anything without consulting you first!

I’ve never commented before, but I just need to underscore that this blog is by far the best makeup blog on the internet, hands down — I can’t believe how much you do with so few people working on it. I admire your dedication and professionalism — thank you for all that you do!

Christine, you are much too hard on yourself, because you are far from a “failure”! This blog is the gold standard of what a great beauty blog OUGHT to be. At just 29 y.o., you’ve accomplished waaay more than 99% of people at that stage in life. For example; at 29 y.o., all I had done was have 2 baby’s, and became a stay at home Mom. Had to leave being a MUA, and have not even gone back to doing that, because now my confidence is shot. Don’t think I could work on somebody else’s face now. Too much anxiety about possibly blinding someone with a mascara wand or eyelash curler. Because you try to give us the best, you are no failure! We all make mistakes and have oversights, it’s just called”being human”.

Christine Avatar

You’re really too kind, Nancy! I definitely don’t feel that way re: everything, just when it comes to catching mistakes and things like that – I am just awful at it. I have this check list “check for clear spelling errors, check for dupe list showing, check Glossover is filling, check to make sure images aren’t broken” but somehow can’t get everything together.

Wow, these look like pretty good dupes for the newest Bite Amuse Bouche shades! So many brands are upping their hippie game this season 😀

Hex Avatar

some of these are reminding me of Bite, but i definitely like this price tag better. Pitch Black seems like a joke though. I’m gonna get Grey Over It, Gone Greige, and Sapphire Siren for sure. Maybe the mauve and midnight blue too

I’m disappointed the more interesting colors like white and purples are a bit patchy–though maybe with primer there could be improvement in decreasing the splotchiness. Eh, you expect this with lower priced items sometimes.

The brown colors look interesting for a less expensive option in experimenting with the color! I’ve always been scared away from ‘skin tone’ toned lip colors after seeing those old vintage photos where the person’s lips are literally a ‘foundation’ color :O

Unrelated but haha if you search for the color ‘Greige’ it’s a completely different color than the ‘Gone Greige’ color! 😛 Strange, but alright Maybelline!

Have to say, I’m not really feeling these colours. Save for a couple of exceptions, they seem to lean very cool, especially – neutrals especially. Not that that’s necessarily bad – idk, I just don’t like the selection of colours aesthetically.
Either way, we’ll probably not get these in the UK anyway.

Nice to see a DS brand roll out some non-traditional, unusual colours! Can’t go much wrong and if a shade doesn’t suit, it’s not too much of an expensive mistake!

Jenny Avatar

A few look a little patchy, but overall I really like these! A few of these definitely perked my interest! They look like great quality(with the exception of a couple) and pretty unique, especially for the drug store! Glad to see them stepping up their game!

Carrie Avatar

it’s a shame that the black is a bit sheer/patchy, but kudos to maybelline to making some affordable options of unique shades!

Melanie Avatar

Grey over it and the orange danger are both calling my name. I’ll have to check WalmartWalgreens for these. I looked in two CVS stores and they weren’t on display.

KJH Avatar

They’re only online @ Ulta so far. Greige isn’t greige, but it’s gorgeous. Hold me back on Smoking Red. Who cares if I have five dupes? Far better than these could have been. Good job, Mayb! The browns , the orange….bring on some testers. Blue? Maybe? Dare I say, what, no green? These ought to do well, and there should be shade extensions. Very nice.

Joce Avatar

Gone greige looks exactly like the new bite beauty color named thistle on me. I have both of them, and on my lips, they are exactly the same. I love them both! I want these blues for sure!

Cat Avatar

Wow, that was unexpected! At that prince, I think I’d like to try Gone Greige and Sapphire Siren. I’ve seen similar shades and I’ve always been curious about how they would look on me or how they would blend with other lipsticks I own. I just hope I can find them near me in pristine condition.

Arpita Avatar

Liking the shade Nude thrill here. I havent , as yet, found my nude lip shade yet. At this price point, i will definitely give this one a try…. Provided these( esp the nude thrill shade)get released in my country

EvilStepQueen Avatar

I saw a display of these at my local Target and got sooo excited. I purchased Sapphire Siren and OH MY GLOB it’s gorgeous! My biggest complaints about drugstore cosmetics, no testers and no safety seal. The colors were almost all sold out and normally trying to find a lipstick that hasn’t been swatched is difficult! There was only one Sapphire Siren tube, I carefully opened to check it and it was brand new, no one had swatched it!!

Even though it looks a bit uneven I still really want Midnight Blue. I’ve never wanted to invest in an “unconventional” color because they’re expensive and I’m probably going to use it very sporadically but at a DS price I most certainly will! I really appreciate DS brands thinking outside the box for the more adventurous but on a budget gals out there 🙂

Cecelia Avatar

Amazing dark shades but they really should have waited to perfect the formulas. This is disappointing after the Creamy Matte line. Maybelline had big shoes to fill. If they extended the Creamy Matte line and added these colors, then I’d be much more excited.

Monique Avatar

I love these for their lack in opacity. The bright pinks and that berry and mauves are what i expect, the purple, white, black, and blue are a bit lacking but that’s ok because on those days when I want to wear a black that isn’t SO BLACK or a blue that’s not Too blue these will work perfectly and they can be layered. These will allow me to wear fun colors in a corp job while not being TOO bold.

Alisha Avatar

Do these lipsticks still smell funny? I bought a few when they first came out and one smelled like play dough and the other smelled like Halloween makeup or kinda like lipstick that had gone bad so I gave it to my grandma cuz she really likes pinks and she couldn’t smell it. I still have the other one. They get such rave reviews and Loreals smell and other fake scents don’t bother me, I don’t know lol.

Olivia Avatar

Literally just bought ‘Midnight Blue’ 15 mins ago. I saw it once at Target and fell in love. Alas, some of the bullet was missing! It seems lately the Target I shop at is sucking at stocking back the shelves. Been about 1-2 weeks and precious Midnight Blue (and my dang night cream!) is still out of stock. Luckily, I have a Walmart real close to me. I really wish this shade was matte though… nothing translucent powder can’t fix.
