Sneak Peek: MAC x Jeremy Scott Collection Photos & Swatches

MAC Lo-Fi Jeremy Scott Eyeshadow x29 Palette

MAC x Jeremy Scott Lo-Fi Eyeshadow Palette ($75.00 for 0.51 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that contains a whopping 29 hues. The majority of the shades are new (and exclusive) to the palette, though there are a few pulled from the archives. Unfortunately, the quality was all over the place with very few hits and mostly misses. The shimmers were surprisingly dry, almost sparkly and loose, despite only one shade (Creative Copper) being an actual Lustre finish! Trying to apply these onto bare skin was a look not worth repeating, and over primer, they were definitely improved, but the shimmers all needed to be used over a tackier base or with a dampened brush to adhere decently. The mattes were fairly buildable, though blending often required two or three shades to cheat my way there along with twice as much time as I’d expect to spend on an elaborate, colorful eye.

MAC Future Emotions Jeremy Scott Lip x 9 Palette

MAC x Jeremy Scott Future Emotions Lip x 9 Palette ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition lipstick palette that contains nine shades with about half of them being previously released. I find that the more matte the finish, the less opaque and less flattering the shade was in this pan format (the actual tube-style lipsticks applied better on average). The lipstick palette was surprisingly small with a mere 0.12 oz., whereas a full-size lipstick contains 0.10 oz. and retails for $17.50.

MAC Acoustica Jeremy Scott Cheek x 3 Palette

MAC x Jeremy Scott Acoustica Cheek x 3 Palette ($35.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a new, limited edition cheek trio that features a golden highlighter, matte bronzer, and matte pink blush. The highlighter was incredibly intense (surprisingly so!) on the skin, while the bronzer and blush were decent (thin, a little stiff, but they wee fairly easy to use on my face).

You must have really had to dig and work to get your swatches and eye look.
I was able to see this before launch, so glad I did. In my opinion, terrible. There was little pigmentation to the shadows , pan size , per shadow was small. So much wasted space in the palette.
The CD palette swatched terrible too, with me.
Mac is changing their shadow and blush formulas. If this is what we can expect, I am done with MAC.

Oh no!!! I ordered the shadow palette as soon as it launched, supposed to come by Valentine’s Day, now hoping it won’t break my heart šŸ™

I’ve been waiting for your take on this!! I was getting seduced by bright colors and retro packaging but I’ll save my money and buy some Colourpop!! Thanks for always giving an honest opinion, you’ve been my go to for frank reviews!!

Annie S. Avatar

Thanks for the swatches.

I wanted an item because of the packaging so I bought the lip palette- it’s the only thing that I would wear if need be. The ‘boombox’ packaging is nice but too expensive and the check trio is too light for my skin tone.

After seeing your swatches, I’m glad that I didn’t pay full price for this- I had a beauty coupon from Macy’s. It could have been so promising. And all that wasted space..ugh! More product could have been included in both palettes.

Susan Avatar

Quality looks horrific. At first I thought it would be a cute palette to have, but I saw some YT reviews right away and everything looked so poorly pigmented and patchy. $75 for packaging, no way in heck.

Rach Avatar

I absolutely love this packaging, concept and colors! LOVE! And then i saw it was by MAC. Sigh. And then I saw your swatches!! What a bummer. Thanks for doing this and saving us from buyer’s remorse.

Sarah Avatar

I’m not normally one to go for gimmicky packaging, but I LOVE these… on the outside at least. How much more fun would it be if they offered these as LE empty palettes that could be filled with the (quality) products of our choice.

Holeigh Avatar

This would have been genius! I had the cheek palette in my cart twice, thankfully Mac wouldn’t let me login so I eventually said screw it and bought the Colourpop stuff I’ve had my eye on. The bronzer is way too warm for me anyway . But an empty palette that looks like the mix CDs of my youth…I’d be all over it!

Dominique Avatar

When the collection went on sale yesterday I searched YouTube for videos and I found 2 small channels with tutorials up and these eyeshadows didn’t look good during application. The packaging is awesome but it is too pricey for a palette with more misses than hits. I won’t be getting any of it. I was looking forward to this collection and it is disappointing?

Lulle Avatar

And here’s MAC shooting themselves in the foot again. They come up with a wonderful collection with amazing packaging that really appeals to their loyal customer base: the people who are old enough to have fond memories of their mixed tapes, and who remember MAC being the one makeup brand back in the day with so many colors and finishes in consistent quality formulas. And they make it crappy. Sigh.

xamyx Avatar

I really like the packaging of this collection, and the “wasted space” doesn’t bother me all that much (although I don’t love the uneven rows, and I see what they were going for, it’s not a deal-breaker), but those shadows are *horrible*. The worst part is, while these are “new, exclusive” shades, MAC has done them all before… I get this is a “throwback” themed collection, but even in the 80s/90s we had better in the DS, LOL!

Nancy T Avatar

The 80’s and early 90’s retro packaging speaks to my HEART. I still remember when my now ex-husband bought his giant JVC boom-box with Dolby Sound for over $300! We watched music videos on MTV, VH1. I did some very elaborate, colorful makeup looks when we’d go out and party.
So, MAC: Why’d you have to go and blow what had the potential to be one of what could’ve been one of your most legendary collections?!?

That said, I will probably buy the lipstick and cheek palettes. Nostalgia is a very powerful tool. Besides, I’ll probably only ever use up several of the lipsticks, as I pretty much change it up every day.

kjh Avatar

You hit it. This could have been epic, instead, epic fail, at least for eyes. The lips look pretty good, if you can deal with lip palettes. Cheeks: nothing new there! Pretty disappointed, but somehow, relieved. Zero temptation is a good thing.

Kay Avatar

Did MAC actually just make a black eyeshadow worse than Carbon?
Glad I didn’t fall for the awesome packaging of this collection, nothing seems very good šŸ™

Cjay Avatar

Well, I did kinda want it. But this kindof reminds me of KVD Vida Loca and I still have a lot of that to use up. Whew. I wasn’t looking forward to the $75 price tag. Now I know I can definitely do without. But I’m really a sucker for this packaging.

Anna Avatar

Thank you so much for your review and swatches! I was going to buy this palette, because I love the concept and the colours, but it’s so not worth the $75 they charge for it!

Beth Avatar

I take back everything I ever said about Kat Von D’s bulky and wasteful packaging, because that eye palette takes the cake. It might be forgivable if the quality was there, but to waste materials on a subpar product is just silly.

Mariella Avatar

I don’t know who Jeremy Scott is but that palette looks dismal (to say nothing of the wasted space) – if I were Jeremy, I’d be asking to have my name taken off this! A few of the lipsticks do look nice but I personally dislike lipsticks in pans like that and I don’t need all those colours – only the 3 or 4 I really like.

Denise S. Avatar

Wow you did some pretty eye looks! Too bad the quality isn’t there. I already have 3 MAC lip stick palettes to use up , and I have 2 of the full sized lip sticks in this palette already so that’s a pass. The blush palette is too light for me. This collection looks good in theory too bad it doesn’t perform well.

CeeBee Avatar

I haven’t bought MAC for several years and this perfectly illustrates why. It’s vanity over everything else, I feel like they’re coasting on their reputation and only seem to do collaborations to generate excitement because the quality of the products they’re putting out certainly isn’t enough on it’s own.

It’s beyond disappointing for a brand that was once a market leader in product innovation and creativity to put out fantastic and exciting packaging with sub-standard formulas and expect customers to dole out their hard earned cash, just because it LOOKS cool. šŸ™

Vilkas Avatar

I have to admit, I feel a bit of schadenfreude at this collectionā€™s apparent lack of quality. It seems Mac put all their energy into this collection whereas the lunar new year collection that (at least from my perspective) so many of us were clamoring for has been ignored.

Helene Avatar

I have forgotten most of the bad collabs MAC has done over the years. But this must be one of the worst ever.
I’m not getting anything from this LE.
I think MAC still have, or maybe that will be had soon, a good permanent range. I’ve been getting some classic eyeshadows from them these last months as they are a bit cheaper now. I hope the permanent range will still be as good, or better after the reformulation I’ve heard will come.
I do find it strange that they keep gettin LEs so wrong when they are perfectly able to produce good products.
Annoying.

Gina Bullard Avatar

I’m really shocked at the lack of quality in these products!! I truly think this is what happens when MAC continues to produce these productions, editions – one on top of the other. They cannot have time to test quality — and this is exactly what happens. It’s a shame that it’s Mr. Scott. From what I do understand about him, he’s a pretty respected artist. Shame.

Carol Avatar

I am pretty sure the so called wasted space in the eye shadow pallet and perhaps the lip pallet as well are conscious design choices. Only someone my age would know this but the layout and varying heights mimic a graphic equalizer bar. These were on all stereos when I was young. They just carry on the nostalgic theme.

Hollie Avatar

Wow, MAC seems to be failing on so many levels in my eyes(literally). I bought the new 217S brush, and it was useless to me. I also swatched the Jeremy Scott eyeshadow palette and I agree with all of you, it has little pigmentation. I have to say Iā€™m disappointed yet again by MAC.
