Sneak Peek: ColourPop x My Little Pony Collection Photos & Swatches
The ColourPop x My Little Pony Collection debuts October 5th at 10AM PST and features an eyeshadow palette ($16), three cream eyeshadows ($5 each), six lip colors ($6 each), two highlighters ($8 each), a makeup bag ($18), and a brush set ($22). Here are swatches of the products I received — I hope to get reviews up in time for the launch this Thursday.
I respectfully ask everyone to be kind to each other and let those who enjoy the collection to enjoy it without judgments from others. If it’s not for you, that’s totally cool, I only ask that you state your opinion without insulting others who do like it. Temptalia’s the type of community where we can like what we like and not feel like we have to fit into any particular box. I am truly surprised that I would have to make this type of reminder on something as innocuous as this collection.

YESSSS!
Saw a few swatches under recently added swatches yesterday, so I figured it was coming. Pretty adorable. It wasn’t out on CP yesterday, so we appreciate early warnings! CP sells out so fast. I like Moondance and all the shadows, SS included. Boy, i’d Have to depot this fast, because i’m Waaaay too old to have seen/loved MLP. My credibility as a senior would be highly challenged. But, CP seems to have nailed the light/colorful, which is not easy to do. Sigh. Suspect i’m there, at CP prices.
Just went. It’s a sign up, like Besame did with Snow White.
I’m almost 28 years old and I love MLP. I used to have the old Gen 1 toys as a kid and I watch MLP: Friendship Is Magic even now (though it’s really not good anymore over these past few years). Don’t let anyone give you a hard time for enjoying the little things in life. 😉
I’m laughing because I’m 37 and watch those, too. 3 kids later, and they’ve reintroduced me to all of the characters.
The colors are pretty, and this whole collection makes me nostalgic 🙂
I have several of Colourpop’s pressed powder eye shadows which I really like, but I just can’t do this. I realize that I’m sure I’m not the demographic that this is geared towards, particularly given Colourpop’s low prices. But it reminds me of “play” makeup for little kids wanting to mimic the grown-ups.
I agree. I might have liked this palette when I was 10 years old. I just can’t see makeup called My Little Pony being aimed at adults.
Moondancer and Lemon Drop lipsticks are pretty.
A lot of people do collect or enjoy things that remind them of things they enjoyed from their childhood as adults (often, that is when you have money to do so!) or from whatever fandoms they enjoy at the moment.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. I didnt grow up with My Littlr Pony. I would have reacted differently if it was something from my childhood, like a Flinstones or Jetsons palette. (Hey, that sounds cool!)
Just a matter of time before they do one for ya 😉
I definitely bought the whole CP Hello, Kitty collection last year, and my 31-year-old self is not at all embarrassed.
i missed out on it but i absolutely adore hello kitty & i am almost 39…and also love MLP i didnt know it was back on TV…people shouldn’t judge no one…not embarrassed at all here either 🙂
This is a little bit of a sidebar…Pur Cosmetics released a My Little Pony collection. Just an FYI to anyone that like MLP. I cannot coment on any of it as I haven’t seen any swatches or reviews. Ulta carries Pur and they may have it out in the store to examine. I have a few of their smaller eyeshadow palettes that I really like but we all know how quality can go either way! What got me into their eyeshadows years ago was the fact that they didn’t irratate my eyes when I was suffering allergies/hay fever/itchy swollen eyes. Lol, it can get ugly. This release is kinda out of left field for Pur. Usually they do more neutral subdued colors. This is by far the brightest most colorful shadow palette they’ve done. Wonder if the eyeshadow formula is the same? Well just letting the MLP fans know that more is out there, if thats your cup of tea.
Or way grown ups imitating the ‘cool kids,’ to quote MAC. Kind of embarrassed, but I think I’m in. Love lighter, colorful shades, as I have deep set eyes, and they come out darker than they would on many.
The MAC “cool kids” reference made me laugh out loud!
I just don’t know. The palette looks pretty decent…but do I need it? Probably not. Of course that argument never really stops me! So, it’s a maybe for me. This time of year is terrible since there are just so many releases! (So much for my no buy before my NYC trip!) The Super Shock look pretty sketchy and, if they were already broken when they arrived at your house, they’re probably also pretty fragile. At least those are a skip for me. Thanks for the swatches (I KNOW it had to be tough to get done before the release!)
Thank you Christine. I’ve been really wanting to see swatches of the palette. Great price for the palette, think I”ll try to grab this tomorrow. Your eye color is so striking!! I love your blog read it daily, just rarely comment.
Definitely not reading fall/winter to me. The shades are very pastel and will make for a nice spring look. They really seem to brighten the eye which is great but not much depth. The colors on their IG feed looked a little deeper. All in all, not something I am in to at this time of year.
The eyeshadows look weak: very sheer and pastel, especially those cream shades swatched terribly. I think it’s really time for colourpop to stop producing so much stuff and focus on quality, not the quantity.
The cream shades are the Ultra-Glitter finish so they’re supposed to be more sheer, the girls said it’s should be used as a sort of eyeshadow topper. and not sure if you have tried their products but even though Colourpop does produce a lot, they generally have very good quality.
As much as I love MLP..this collection does not do much for me. It is MLP! The palette could have been much more colorful and bright. Minty and Applejack are too close to each other and seem a bit muted. And I know ppl want black in a palette sometimes…but ponies don’t wear black! Just has no place in a MLP palette. They had so much they could have done with the palette..this is just meh.
The brushes…are cute but they just say MLP on them..now if there was an actual pony on the handle somewhere…now that would be much more appealing to me. Some of the swatches seem not that impressive as well. As much as I love CP and MLP I am not very interested much in this launch.
I really enjoy Pin Wheel and Dream Castle lippies. For me, I just enjoy the fun colors and the name of the collection doesn’t matter so much. I am known to enjoy a good collectors piece though.. I am curious to see how you rate these, that is usually the final determining factor for me LOL.
I very much would love to purchase this collection, especially the eyeshadow palette! It looks so pretty! Unfortunately I’m going to have to pass on this one.
Thanks Christine for the swatches!
At first I was completely sold on the eyeshadow palette, but looking at it more, I’m completely on the fence with it. Maybe it’s because I never got into My Little Pony as a child. Maybe if it was Carebears, Rugrats, or Captain Planet, I would be 100% on board, but I don’t know. I feel like I have many of these colors. Blossom and Starshine are gorgeous, but I feel like I have dupes and everything else feels like it’s been done before.
Thank you for your quality swatches. I saw the picture of the collection and I was super excited and wanted to get the palette. Yesterday I saw some swatches and I wasn’t sure. I hoped you’d get and advance sample so I could see swatches with good ligthing.
I’m a bit dissapointed by the colours: I thought Firefly was more a blue-ish silver and I though the Super Shock shadow where more opaque. I’m a sucker for My Little Pony, specially the vintage one from the 80s. I was almost buying it from the packaging!
I won’t get anything from this collections. My heart is sad my my wallet thanks you!
Aw your disclaimer 🙁 I appreciate your grace and tact in these situations. In fact, I’m all for there being trendy makeup that will openly be age-appropriate for young kids…I don’t need tweens coveting NARS and Too Faced products with very PG-13 names! (I’m a fan of those names myself, but I’m also 27 years old sooo). Now I’m just waiting for a company to do a Sailor Moon collection with very well-done compacts that mirror the Sailor Moon compacts!! 🙂
Sailor Moon! Now that would be an awesome collection!
I would spend all the dollars on a CP Sailor Moon collection (or any Sailor Moon collection, really).
Check out Geek Chic Cosmetics then, if you haven’t! They have a few Sailor Moon inspired things.
Not affiliated, just a fan since at least 2012.
Sailor moon!! Yes please!
Sailor-Moon! I promise I was just over here thinking about someone coming out with a She-Ra collection!
She-Ra! Yes! With a Light Hope highlighter and red and gold lippies. A palette with bright colors and a transforming shade! I can totally see this.
Check out japanese brand Creer Beaute, they have a sailor moon collection with compacts
I see nothing wrong with the collection. It’s not any different from any other themed collection (MAC Hello Kitty, Archie, etc); if you like it, you buy it, if you don’t like it, you don’t buy it. It’s just makeup and colours. LOL! I think people probably dislike the packaging of the palette, more than anything. I collected My Little Pony when I was young, so I think it’s fun and nostalgic.
I won’t be buying the palette because I think some of the colours are redundant to each other (even if their finishes differ), but for someone who loves pink and pastels, this would be really great. I also think the lip colours, particularly the glosses are nice.
All in all, a fun collection!
While I’m a Pony fan, and I like some of these items, I almost feel the collection’s sort of understated. If you’re going to give me a MLP collection, give me pastels and glitter and ridiculous colors, give me fun. For some reason this doesn’t feel fun.
Agreed!
Did CP leave out the highlighters from the PR set? Those were the ones I was most interested in this collection.
Sorry, I don’t have them!
I just don’t know… It really bums me out that no one has received the highlighters in PR because I’m most excited for those. Really don’t know if I should get them or not. The palette… looks nice but there are a couple of shades I know I will never use, I like 2/3 of the palette. And I can’t see myself creating many different looks with those colors to be honest… Not sure about the SSS, in the videos I’ve seen so far they look so pretty but also so chunky/glittery. And they look way too fragile too, they would never survive international shipment lol.
The ultra Glossy lip sticks look pretty. Especially digging Dream Castle
The palette looks really cute and I have no problem having a MLP palette at my age (over 25) but I don’t know if I need anything from this collection. If AppleJack was available as a single, I’d buy that because she was always my fav pony.
Love the packaging of the palette. Dream Castle looks so pretty!! All the lip colors look pretty good actually 🙂 Overall the collection is very cute and I think fits the My Little Pony branding well. I haven’t seen the show since I was very very young but it makes for a fun collection.
I’m an 80’s baby and when I was growing up my favorite toys were my little ponies.I have very fond memories of going to Children’s Palace to get a new My Little Pony.Im going to try to get this whole collection because it looks awesome and the colors are so fun and obviously for nostalgic reasons?
I think the palette is actually really gorgeous. If you rearranged the colors, I feel like it would look “childish” (though I don’t really think it does!) I really want some Steven Universe makeup! Their color palette would be so perfect for makeup! (For reference I’m 21, an adult who would buy certain cartoon themed makeup.)
If there was a Steven Universe collection I would buy Every. Single. Item. Especially if the eyeshadows were organized like the UD Alice Through The Looking Glass palette, with a coordinated quad for each Gem. Steven and Connie could be blush colors, and the fusions could be lip colors. I may be overthinking this, but it’d be so much fun.
Those lippies are gorgeous! ?
I also like the palette, although i just got the pur mlp palette… do i really need 2 pony themed palettes??
Did the supershocks really come all broken? Ugh, I would be so sad!
Also, I think the shadows are beautiful colors. Probably not the best for a fall wardrobe, but lovely and vibrant for spring and summer!
I think because there is so much sparkle/glitter in it that they just don’t stay together as well, but it’s a cream product so it’s not really broken!
Had my babies in the later half of the 80’s, so for me, there is a sense of comforting nostalgia of a happier time gone by. As a result, I will likely buy the palette, and also the Dream Castle lipgloss. Possibly Sunbeam to use as an eyeshadow topper. Idk quite yet. We’ll see tomorrow!
My only complaint is that My Little Ponies have gotten the Bratz treatment and no longer resemble the beloved simple critters of my youth. Otherwise- I love this collection. But Colourpop, seriously, we are all currently getting our items via the mail. The shadows need to be able to Maintain.
The swatches look gorgeous! I’m so glad they sent you this collection so you can show us before it launches! I really want the eyeshadow palette and some of the lippies!
The glosses are nice!
Wow, the palette swatches beautifully. Not sure if I have much use for this palette though but it sure is pretty. I do however want those to pink ultra glossy lips! ?
Christine this look is stunning! You look gorgeous! I was going to pass on this collection because it didn’t really appeal to me – I wasn’t sure if I’d make use of the colours. But after seeing it on your face, I want it all!
I love that they went with the original ponies! I think I had all of them as a kid. This is one of the few makeup products I’m interested in more for the packaging than the product (because I really don’t need more eyeshadow!). I’m surprised at the negativity of the comments, too; I don’t recall it with their other cartoon collab with Hello Kitty. I think this is geared more towards thirty-somethings who are nostalgic about their childhood more than actual children (or teens)!
Flutter Valley looks awesome and I love the eye look you created. I think the mlp theme is cute. I was a fan when I was a kid so it’s nostalgic for me.
I love it, Christine! Thank you so much for posting this. I was planning on getting the palette, but I wasn’t sure what else I wanted (though several products interested me). Your swatches help so much in deciding what to add to my collection. I’m 45, and the beauty of being this age is that I buy whatever strikes my fancy based on my own likes and dislikes! It’s quite freeing (especially since rainbows and sparkles really make my day!).
Me at 45, haha! I’ll definitely be buying all the colorful stuff til I die like Iris Apfel lol
Omg another my little pony set? Love! These were some of my favorite toys. I am excited to see the packaging has the old school artwork too, as the other set had updated ponies. Can’t wait! Thank you as always, I always come to your site first to get your opinion on products – especially if I’m on the fence or can’t test it in person! ??
I don’t know anything about My Little Pony, but some of the color names don’t seem to match the colors, specifically Minty, Posey, and Sunbeam. I’m sure they had a reason for those names, but those kinds of things irk me.
The Super Shock shadows seem a little sheer, but maybe it was intentional (like they’re meant as toppers). The Ultra Mattes look beautiful! I love how they named a purple shade Lemon Drop
I think the palette is pretty lovely and I certainly like the inclusion of the teal shade as it makes the palette more versatile and interesting.
The lip glosses look a little dehydrating for the lips, so they are not for me.
I think the single shadows are a miss.
I love the Moondancer and Pinwheel lip colors, but I wish the eyeshadows were all matte or satin and bright colors like the ponies themselves. My 28 year old self has no shame in buying kiddie themed stuff. In fact, I’m always in the kids section hating on the fact the clothes don’t come in my size ? I’m the definitely the obnoxious colorful type. Might be getting aome of the stuff, but unfortunately passing on the eyeshadows.
I loved the original Generation 1 MLPs as a kid. When the G4 (current generation) TV show came out, I loved the first few seasons. I actually collected the vintage G1 ponies for a while.
And THAT’S why I can’t get behind this palette. The names don’t match the ponies! YES, the matched the color of the pony’s symbol to the color of the product in most cases, but seriously! Who hears ‘Lemon Drop’ and thinks lavender matte? Or ‘Bluebelle’ is…what, a cream?
What’s especially killing me is they HAVE the right colors IN THE PALETTE. There’s a blue for Bluebelle! A pink for Firefly! A purple for Twilight! There’s a silver for Snuzzle!
WHY IS MINTY BRIGHT PINK THIS BOTHERS ME SO MUCH.
I am so excited for this collection because they’re the 80’s version that I grew up with! I had SO many ponies. I was going to get particular pieces from the collection, but now they are tempting me with the bag and that is a whole $20 for a tote. Yikes. I may cave and pay the $135. But I probably should just spend half for only the things I really want. Omg talk me into saving money please!
Pin Wheel is literally BREATHTAKING. And I’m definitely feeling the shadows. Curses!
Well, there’s yet another CP Shadow Palette I can skip. From the promo pics it looked like there was a pale blue with a bit of green in the mix. But from swatches, ive been seeing, it looks SILVER. Why? And who honestly wears silver eyeshadow anymore (at least on a semi regular basis)? Didnt it die out in 2007? To be honest i thought for SURE that Colourpop would be giving us some nice brights or pastel shadows, some greens, nicely pigmented purples, duochromes, a bright blue, not recycling the same 4 berry/red colors that were in their original Yes Please Palette! And smoky shades? What? Doesnt fall in line with the My Little Pony theme. They already ran the gamut of berries, rusty warm colors, oranges, reds, and pinks! We dont need anymore. When i think of My Little Pony, I don’t think of smoky colors!
Whats more, these shadows look pretty weak in pigmentation, especially both the purples (in pressed formula and Supershock formula). Im very disappointed. Its not even that colorful of a palette…oh well, I still await your review, Christine, and I’ll see if I change my mind. But so far, apart from the Glossy lips, this whole collection just looks boring.
So excited! I hate seeing palettes that all have the same brown neutral..blah I have so many! This sparks me to create fun looks which is why i got into makeup in the first place! love it. Thanks colourpop for reminding me that I can still get excited for makeup!
not sure i will use the eyeshadow palette but Moon dancer is faboulous.
I’m saddened that you have to make such a statement, Christine. I’m in my 30’s (80’s baby here) and I personally think the collaboration is great – when I saw your post I thought, wow, what an amazing concept! My Little Pony is the epitome of all things fun and magical….and the ponies come in a myriad of colors, what better way to represent it than through makeup? One doesn’t have to be a part of a certain demographic to like this – it’s nostalgic and I appreciate it. I personally am waiting for an X-Men collaboration!
This will be great for flower girls.
This is such a smart move from Colourpop. They get all the young customers really excited while me – born in the 80s get all sorts of nostalgia feel with this. The color are pretty on trend with some surprises. If you take away the packaging, pop it in a sleek black or velvety packaging and call it something more matured, it’ll totally work as well. I am so tempted, oh so tempted but I know.. Natasha denona is going launch her new palette5, fentybeauty with the holiday palette. Gosh, I must exercise some discipline!
Sooooo glad I saw this post yesterday! I still have my childhood (1980/90’s) my little ponies, which my daughters now play with. Managed to get the palette, a highlighter and a super shock. Really excited! Thanks for posting this otherwise I wouldn’t have even known about this collection.
I think the eyeshadow palette has adorable colors and seem to swatch well. You don’t have to be a MLP fan to like it. The losers here appear to be the Super Shock Shadows, unless they work really well as toppers.
OH GOD THE PACKAGING IS SO CUTE. That palette is a bargain as well, but almost all the eyeshadows just don’t look pigmented…what’s the deal? :O Their eyeshadows are usually very strong. It sucks, because they look so good in the package, and I really like the colors in principle anyway.
So cute. I loved the ponies as a kid and my friends and I would play with them. I’m 38 and love the colors, I’m interested in purchasing these and not embarrassed about it. Dream Castle looks RAD!
There have been many collections that I disliked and didn’t purchase or comment and insult anyone who did. I’m sorry you had to make that disclaimer. Sad. Makeup is supposed to be fun and accentuate your individuality. It makes me happy when I go to your site to see a community of people who love makeup as much as I do.
My boyfriend bought me the entire collection for Christmas, the whole lot. SO HAPPY!
Oh, and I’m 45 this year…..
