Smashbox Nudie Pic (Medium) Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio Review, Photos, Swatches
Nudie Pic (Medium)
Smashbox Nudie Pic (Medium) Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a warm-toned, neutral trio featuring a light beige, light brown, and mid-tone brown with matte finishes. All three were a waste of time and money–for matte neutrals, there are so many better products out there. The type of experience I had using this trio is nowhere near what I’d expect for mid-end pricing.

Cashew Outside
Cashew Outside is a light, muted yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was incredibly powdery, which resulted in a ton of product kicked up in the pan during use and some fallout during application (even after tapping away excess off my brush). The eyesahdow had semi-opaque pigmentation that did not build up as it wouldn’t layer on itself. It lasted for six hours on me.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to be "super-blendable" and "richly-pigmented." I found the quality to vary a lot from shade to shade, even with a trio, as some shades had soft, blendable texture and others were drier, dusty, and messy to work with and had pigmentation that sheered out or faded quickly. I wanted to like them more than I ended up after using them on the lid as I routinely felt like the brighter shades never looked quite as vibrant in practice as they did in the pan. Most of the shades were blendable and had coverage from medium to opaque with a few being sheer. They lasted anywhere from five to eight hours on me.

Wheat
Wheat is a soft, ultra-light brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was unbelievably powdery with even a soft, light-handed touch. It had medium coverage, though it may be difficult to ascertain against my skintone as it was quite close to my natural complexion. This shade started to fade on me after six and a half hours of wear.

Hazelnut
Hazelnut is a muted, medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which wasn’t buildable, and the texture was drier and more powdery, which resulted in sheer, uneven application that made me wonder since when did it get challenging to create a matte brown eyeshadow. It faded on me after six hours.

Good grief how many more of these are there? The quality has ranged from mediocre the poor and they are honestly one of the most boring products I have ever seen. Props to you for slogging your way through I’m sure reviewing them has been incredible tedious!
Yikes! What a disappointment this whole series was. I own #repost and it was mediocre too. This nude pic shade set is so basic how did they screw it up?! I swear the Maybelline city mini palette sets are better quality than these.
Showmance and Night Shoot are actually really good. I bought them both within a week and have really enjoyed using them. Some of the others, though – just dismal.
I wish I bought Night Shoot instead!!!
Jujubes, can you exchange #Repost for Night Shoot? (I realize some folks live in countries where cosmetics cannot be exhanged/returned). I see that #Repost got a pretty poor review here from Christine. That alone would be enough for me either not to buy it or to buy it knowing the worst (the MAC Caviar Dreams quad is one perfect example; I bought it knowing the shade I liked best was a stinker….and it IS a stinker all these years later!)
I wish! I bought it at Sephora with the VIB20% discount when it first came out, no reviews at the time yet. I tried to work with it but the chromatic shift was very weird and I just couldn’t make it work. I should have returned it(I rarely do returns—always feel bad after using something)! Night Shoot would have been much better, no weird shifts and more neutral!!
I feel the same about returns. In the past 20 years, I’ve returned 2 cosmetic items – MAC’s Dangerous Cuvee Paint Pot and Marc Jacobs Edgitorial palette (there was no tester of that one at Sephora for some reason – they had counter testers of all the others – or I probably would have realized it wasn’t for me). I also feel bad doing it which is why I tend to put a lot of research into purchases. I’m actually at the point of maybe returning MAC Studio Waterweight Concealer just now. The NW20 colour isn’t great (NW15 was too light and chalky, though that could be because the SA applied WAAAY too much) and the texture of the product itself is “unpredictable” – fine some days and dreadful on others. I might get a sample of of NW15 to give it a try myself and see or see if mixing in a bit of the lighter shade will help. But I know I’ll feel bad if I return it.
An opportunity wasted by Smashbox. This series could have been so much better for their customers and their brand.
(Have to say, though, I do often enjoy reading your “F” ratings reviews — crisp, acute, often funny… “waste of time and money” says it all for this one.)
I am the same, when I see F I am so curious I would read the F-rated reviews first!!?
How disappointing! You would think they could get right something as basic as this.
The poor quality of this range is so disappointing. There are so many good eyeshadows out there! No excuses! Maybe the glitter trios are better.
From bad to worse for Smashbox. I have the light edit and haven’t had any issues with it but having said that I really only use the one matte brow bone color so haven’t really tested it for a complete eye look. I went with the light edit because the browns were more neutral than this palette so wouldn’t have purchased this anyway. Again, if you can’t make it work with your skill level then there is no hope for me!
This is extremely sad. If you’re going to do these transition shades that have been done a million times, at least do it right.
Le sigh. These could be awesome if they were good, especially these neutrals. You’ve got a matte browbone, a transition and a way to deepen an outer corner. Perfect matte look or to travel with, all in one convenient package. Instead…garbage.
Ye gads!!! The only part I can see of Wheat that makes me know there’s an actual *anything* there is the grainy specks of product on your skin. Problem is, it doesn’t look like an eyeshadow, but more like a smudge of dirt. These look horrible. Like even worse than dollar store eyeshadows.
I remember the days when brands would have a permanent core collection of great trios/quads so all you needed was to supplement your collection with an LE palette now and then.
These are usually some of the easiest shades to make. I have some Smashbox eyeshadows. While never my favorites, I know they can do way better than this.
Oh dear, this is the worst one of the lot. I think it’s pretty difficult to get these neutral shades wrong when Smashbox has done them well a million times before.
I LOVE Smashbox’s primers, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why they can’t seem to figure out eyeshadows. On the whole (outside of the usual trouble makers of pastels and brighter mattes) they seem to be one of the easier things to get right in makeup!
So bad. Didn’t Smashbox used to be better than this overall? Me I was less discerning.
I had, well still have, a Smashbox trio from aeons ago, it’s quite basic and so much better than any of these poor new ones. I wonder how they can release products as bad as this and hiw they will win back costumers after such a failiure.
I’ve never been a fan of Smashbox just bought a little something now and then. After this I doubt I’ll even bothet to look at their counters, unless they manage to get an A+ here of course.
What a shame! The only good thing is the cute packaging. Everything else — No!
