Sephora Love Affair Contour Eye Pencil
Sephora Love Affair Contour Eye Pencil ($10.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “plum.” It’s a blackened plum with neutral undertones and a pearly sheen. It had so-so color coverage in a single pass but was buildable to opaque color with two layers. It had a really creamy, glide-on consistency that didn’t tug. This shade lasted for ten hours on me. Tarte Plum (LE) is warmer. Burberry Pale Grape No. 04 (P, $29.00) is darker, less shimmery. NARS Night Bird (P, $24.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Nightshade (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Tarina Tarantino Ultraviolet (P, $15.00) is very similar. MAC Strong Willed (P, $20.00) is similar. Urban Decay Rockstar (P, $19.00) is very similar. Chanel Cassis (P, $30.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sephora Strawberry Macaroon Contour Eye Pencil ($10.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “pink.” It’s a brightened, warm-toned light pink with a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation in one stroke, and the consistency was creamy without being too emollient (or slippery). The color started to thin after ten hours of wear (though not the twelve-hours marketed). Marc Jacobs Beauty Obey-ge (66) (P, $25.00) is much lighter–more like white. Tarina Tarantino Broken Doll (P, $15.00) is also much lighter, closer to white than pink. MAC Feminine Edge (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned, more glittery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sephora Tango Night Contour Eye Pencil ($10.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “black purple.” It’s a blackened purple with lighter purple and violet purple micro-glitter. It had a creamy consistency, and I didn’t feel the glittery bits when I applied, so it was comfortable to apply. It could have used more pigmentation in a single pass, as it was only semi-sheer, though it was buildable to mostly opaque. This shade lasted for almost ten hours, but some of the glitter migrated. NARS Night Bird (P, $24.00) is less glittery. Urban Decay Delinquent (P, $19.00) is very similar. Milani Perfect Purple (P, $6.99) is lighter. MAC Designer Purple (P, $15.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sephora Surfer Babe Contour Eye Pencil ($10.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “peacock blue.” It’s a brightened, yet more like a medium-dark, blue with a pearly shimmer-sheen finish that leans slightly teal (or “warm”). It is a gorgeous shade with excellent performance: rich color in a single pass that can be layered without fuss, and it lasted for ten hours. The real question is why I didn’t buy this earlier! MAC Take the Plunge (P, $16.00) is slightly warmer. bareMinerals True Blue (LE) is lighter. Gucci Beauty Iconic Ottanio (P, $32.00) is similar. MAC Deep Blue Sea (LE, $16.00) is darker. Urban Decay Abyss (P, $19.00) is lighter. MAC Mountain Air (P, $20.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ooh they are pretty! But what is the longevity like? I know you have it an 8 but how long do they last for? Is it okay to use these without a primer?
I listed how long each one wore in the review above! I don’t use primer when I test. 🙂
I think Surfer Babe was the first of these pencils I purchased (I was debating between it and a LE MUFE pencil that was virtually identical; the price and quality of this pencil swayed me – it was about half the price of the MUFE one). I’ve since purchased Tango Night and about 6 other shades (maybe more?) – I really like the quality. I just wish more of them were considered waterline safe.
It would be nice if more were for the waterline!
I want them all! * rubs hands greedily *
LOL! 😉
Yay! The prettiest shade of the bunch performs the best, hurrah 😉
Yayyy!!
love affair and tango night is so pretty and opaque as well
They’re both really nice shades!
Surfer Babe. Holy cow! I like them all actually. Regarding Strawberry Macaroon, if I wanted a pearly pink for my waterline, would you recommend this one or the Highlighter shade from the Loreal Silkissime line?
L’Oreal’s goes on a little easier for the waterline, in my experience, but they’re both nice! L’Oreal’s is also a bit more brightening (but some may find it starker).
Thanks! Looking at side by side I see the colors are more different than I thought. Might need both lol.
🙂 No prob!
Surfer Babe swatched lighter than I thought it would. Doesn’t L’Oreal have a liner like Strawberry Macaroon?
Highlighter is peachier, less pink, lighter! 🙂
Ooooh, Strawberry Macaroon is SO pretty, a nice brightening color
Agreed!
oh wow, love affair is gorgeous!
It’s a nice shade! I wish it was more pigmented in one go, but it layers well enough that I love using it.
Love/meh 😉
Which one is love? 🙂
Strawberry Macaroon! 😀
Happy to note I have all of these shades and luv em all 🙂 Tango Night was the first of these for me I think and Ive been collecting these ever since lol.
Yay! Glad you have ’em, Dee!
Wow Surfer Babe!
So pigmented!!
Thanks for reviewing all these for us. I’m really loving Tango Night and Surfer Babe. Strawberry Macaroon looks like a great highlight liner.
My pleasure, Rachel!
I own Surfer Babe, Tiramisu and Snake Skin (I think, can’t remember the exact name right now) and I really love them! Generally they are very nice pencils for the price. Some of them better and some worse, but I think that happens even with the best brands.
Very true, Carla! Eyeliners can be really tricky, too, to get consistent.
I looooooove Surfer Babe!
That makes two of us! xo
I was wondering why Strawberry Macaroon doesn’t have a rating listed?
It should! I’m seeing A-!
Huh, I see a grade for it now. I’m actually seeing an “A” right now, but either way, guess my computer was being weird yesterday. Thanks, Christine!
I purged cache when I saw your comment, just in case, so it might have showed for me (nothing caches for me, I’m super admin, lol!) but not for others! I see A as well!
Yay! The Surfer Babe colour is the best rated! Wow – this is such a gorgeous colour. I was going to purchase the Gucci one, but by looking at your dupe list, this is exactly the same colour and at a much more reasonable price. Another reason to love Sephora.
It’s a great shade!! 🙂 It is very similar for sure!
I really like Love Affair and Tango Night. Are these auto-sharpening, or do you have to use a separate sharpener? I LOATHE the old-fashioned kind; it seems like so much product is wasted like that.
You have to use a sharpener on these, unfortunately! On the upside, most twist-ups contain 0.01 oz. or so, whereas the kind you sharpen is typically 0.04 oz.
Ohh I like Strawberry Maccaroon. It’s so pretty!
Me too!
Strawberry Macaroon is super pretty – I find I’m really into the idea of a silvery/pale pink eyeliner at the moment (although I don’t have one to test that desire and see if it pans out, LOL!). Obviously, Surfer Babe is a winner for me (go turquoise!), and Tango Night is nice, but I feel like I have (more or less) UD dupes for those already.
You need to find one to try!!
Hi Christine! 🙂 Do you think these eyeliners are dupes for UD’s 24/7 eyeliners? Some shades look very similar
Hi Maria,
I listed all the dupes I could think of for every shade I reviewed in the post.
