Round-up: Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipsticks Overview & Thoughts

Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipsticks

Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a range of ten shades that are sheerer, but still more pigmented than not, compared to the original Revolution formula. The shades are inspired by (with the exception of Sheer Slowburn) shades in the original range as well, so if you own the original, you could probably skip these and just sheer it out yourself. That being said, if you like a sheerer application and often apply while out and about, then you may appreciate the convenience of the sheer formula.

The consistency is thinner and less creamy/dense, and when paired with the translucent quality of the color, gives it a lighter look on the lips. It seems very in line with spring, though I still very much hope we’ll see additions to the regular formula this year as well (maybe summer?). I wish they were more hydrating (and I’ll be eager to hear how others find them to be once they’re able to try them), and some shades could apply more evenly right away. They seem to melt in a way that tends to self-level the color on lips, so they don’t look quite as uneven over time. The upside is that they wore a little longer than average when compared to other similarly-textured formulas.

Are you eager to try out the new formula? Will you stick with the original? Do neither appeal to you?

MOST UNIQUE: Sheer Rapture (A-)
PERSONAL FAVORITES: Sheer Rapture (A-), Sheer Liar (A-)

Irrelevant to the beautiful new shades that I will likely be getting (I see you Slowburn, Fbomb and Rapture), I love the new layout of your page!

I definitely will try these out. My faves are : Sheer Slowburn,f-bomb,liar,obsessed,and rapture. I do have many in the regular formula which I like very much and don’t see me giving up. But, it may be nice to have a couple or so depending on how they do for “easy” says. I do wish they had hydration and or spf .So, I will test them out probably in store or buy one first to see how they layer over a balm. I also am planning on trying the YSL Rouge Volupte..those may make me want none or all or a few of each..I like a little variety.

I will. Im going to try to scam the swatches and reviews for a YSL rouge volupte to order. Any suggestions to put on my list? I too love the New lay out! So easy to compare! Ive got my favorites narrowed. Stuck on obsessed..love the shade..but not the review! Well, you just saved me $20! Thank you miss!

Great..thanks for the advice! Looking at these made me refer to the original UD lipstick formula. I realized I do not own Shame or Rapture in that formula and they are very pretty…hope Urban Decay sends you a gratis!:)

Speaking as someone who does reapply often when out and about, and who also loves the full pigment versions from UD, I was quite excited to see this release! I love me a good sheerish lipstick, and I have my eye on Sheer Rapture, Liar and Streak. I’ve been lusting after the full pigment Rapture for ages, but for me, Liar and Strak are prefeable in the sheer version! 😀 Decisions, decisions…

I actually really like sheer lipsticks. I think it’s partly that I like to wear vivid eye looks but still want some color on my lips, partly that I appreciate the low-maintenance aspect of not having to keep a bright color looking perfect throughout a busy day, and partly that I’m not really a gloss person, my lips seem full enough without adding a huge amount of sparkle and shine. So I’m pretty interested in these, will definitely check out Sheer Anarchy (I don’t have the original because I have a different opaque hot pink/fuschia), Sheer F-Bomb and Sheer Ladyflower (I only have minis of the original formula), Sheer Shame — if it does even out over time (I don’t have the original), and Sheer Rapture (I do have the original, but it comes close to being a MLBB shade for me, so it could be worth having the sheer formula, too — except that the sheer formula might turn out to be too light for me). I already have a sheer coral, a sheer light/medium warm pink and a sheer cool nude/pink in a Laura Mercier formula that I like, so I probably won’t bother with the other colors — being sheer, they’re less likely to look distinct from what I already have. What I would *really* like to see is a full-sized Ladyflower in the original formula. It’s a great color!

Sheer lipsticks definitely have a place! For every person who loves an opaque lipstick, there’s someone who prefers a sheer one! It might have been better for UD to release maybe 6 shades in the new Sheer formula but still add 2-4 shades in the regular if they wanted to please everyone, lol!

I seem to be in the minority, but I think these are so uninspired. Taking pre-existing shades and just making them sheer? So boring! I can’t remember the last time UD put something out that I actually found interesting once the hype died down. They used to be so cool and now it’s just dupable lip colors and neutral eyeshadows. What a bummer.

Sheer F Bomb and Sheer Anarchy look so good! So much more wearable than their normal counterparts, whereas I don’t think I’ll go for Sheer Rapture because the regular Rapture is already a great shade for me.

Finally some nice looking UD lipsticks! It used to be my favorite lipstick formula until they changed into that super thick aweful looking mess that the Revolution lipaticks are.

These sheer ones all look amazing! A nice shiny finish that smooths out the lips and gives the lips some color without looking like there is half an inch of goo on top. Just naturally pretty lips in different shades. Just the way I like it!

I’m not onboard with the concept. I wish they had made entirely new colors.

I probably would prefer this formula in terms of feel on the lips, but between 2/3 full sizes I own, and that box of minis that they released for the holidays? I already own all the shades in the original formula that I’d be interested in having in this one. So I’m going to skip it entirely.

I’m missing some sparkly/shimmery lipsticks in UD’s current lipstick range. Oh well.
