Round-up: Maybelline Matte Metallics Lipsticks

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Metallic Lipsticks ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is the newest finish in the Color Sensational range, and it’s supposed to pigmented, metallic, matte, and have a “comfortable creamy” feel.

The formula had a smooth, waxy feel to me–it glided across the lips with ease but was thinner and did not lay down as much color in a single layer. Most of the shades were semi-opaque with some being slightly sheerer or more pigmented, but they were typically buildable. The lipstick was comfortable to wear and lasted between three and five hours on me with some shades being lightly hydrating and others were non-drying. There was a subtle, sweet scent but was significantly subdued compared to other Maybelline lip products.

Though it was not perfect, one of my favorites was Copper Rose for the finish and color–I would pair it with a similar-colored lip liner to help even it out. Are you convinced to try these? Skip them? Have you tried any?

The 2 that I *might* get are Molton Bronze and Gunmetal. Both have something about them that is just different enough from the usual while still being truly beautiful. I will try a little experiment using UD Time lipstick with Bite Peacock Lip Creme over it to see whether I get something similar to Gunmetal, because I’m really trying to reign in my lip product buying.

Molten Bronze (with duo chrome gold green shift ) was the most interesting to me, think it might pair well with Becca Topaz Flashes Gilt (golden bronze with soft emerald shift) for an OTT look 🙂

The good ones are really nice. I need to look into the formula. I found out for sure I’m pretty allergic to sesame recently and almost all of my lipstick collection is Bite. Guess what it’s got it inside? SESAME! I’m going to try to wear them again now that I’m on 3 different allergy meds and see if I can work through them or it’s probably close to a grand of lipstick I can’t use.
