Round-up: Tom Ford Lip Color Matte Overview & Thoughts

Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color Matte

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte ($50.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a satin to matte formula with six permanent shades (and two limited edition shades). The formula is good overall with a few shades that could use some improvement and only one that was a miss from my experience. The texture has a more velvety, smooth consistency, so they don’t have some of the dryness often associated with matte formulas (though most of them aren’t fully matte in finish when first applied). Most of them are neither drying nor hydrating with none being unbearably drying. The formula has a subtle vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

MOST UNIQUE: Pink Tease (03) (B+), Pussycat (04) (A)
PERSONAL FAVORITES: Plum Lush (05) (A+), Pussycat (04) (A)

I bought black Dahlia and Pussycat last year (without seeing them in action) and after I tried both I felt the same about black Dahlia. It was such a disappointment considering the price was so high. I was truly disappointed 🙁 luckily pussycat was much better.

I have Black Dahlia and a LE purple shade that came out a while ago and love them both. I’m NC45 and my lips are darker than that so I don’t experience the imperfections that others did.

Totally agree with your overall thoughts! Out of all the shades, I picked up Plum Lush, Ruby Rush, and Pussycat. Plum Lush is my fav of the three I chose, followed very closely by Pussycat, which I find pairs really well with a simple natural daily look. Glad I didn’t get either of the limited edition shades, as I initially found them to be quite…boring actually! xP

Also, love your “round-up” posts for products and their available shades. Very clear-cut and concise. Love it ’cause it makes decisions easier when I’m trying to compare shades in the same product line =)

I love shades like Black Dahlia but I have yet to find a shade that goes on smoothly, regardless of formula. Urban Decay Shame, Lorac Dominatrix…that deep berry just seems impossible to apply without fuss. Bummer! But I’ll keep wearing it because I just love it so!
