Round-up: MAC Artificially Wild Collection Overview & Thoughts
MAC Artificially Wild Collection
MAC Artificially Wild Collection launches online on August 28th and on counters/in-stores on September 4th. It’s a limited edition set of shades that sees the limited return of some 90s favorites from the past. These shades are more unique than a lot of the other colors we see in MAC collections, but some of them may feel harder to wear than others. I think they’ll be nice to incorporate with other products you already own, though they do work together.
- BEST PERFORMING: Artificial Earth (A), Natural Wilderness (A), Pink Cult Blush (A), Taupe Blush (A), De-Nude Lipglass (A-), Marsh (A-), Next to Skin Blush (A-), Photo Lipstick (A-)

Now that I’ve seen your reviews I’m not as excited about this as I thought I would be. I think I’ll concentrate on A Novel Romance and give this one a pass.
I liked A Novel Romance a lot! 🙂
This afternoon I picked up A Novel Romance Quad and Fun Ending blush. 🙂
Both Taupe and Pink Cult are on my list! I hope I am able to get them before they sell out! atleast Taupe! 😐
I hope you can, Divya!
I think next to skin has been my favorite out of all these. It’s very unique and will work well for us pale people!
I think it will, too!
The whole collection was a giant NO for me. I really really dislike most of it.
Bummer!
I can’t afford everything. With Novel, Brooke, Simpsons coming out and then the Victorian colkection.
Christine, need your advice. I don’t like The Simpsons. I have all those colors. Will the Simpson’s be collectors items? Will they be worth more money someday? I was only going to get it because of that .
I really have no idea – I don’t follow Simpsons’ collectibles to know whether there is any money in it and if there’s a lot.
Initially, I wasn’t all that interested in this collection but I think I am liking the natural earthy tones of the shadows and blush. My question is-is the Taupe blush the same Taupe blush they have in the pan at the Pro store (I don’t mean the Taupe Shaping powder)? Anyone know? Thanks.
Yes, it is the same!
Thanks, Christine. I see the website no longer lists Taupe blush in pan as an option. I was considering buying this about a month ago so I wonder if some Pro stores still have it on pan for those who want it for palettes? It’s worth checking into. I know my Dallas store had it not long ago.
Stores might have it! It’s worth giving them a call to find out.
Marsh eye shadow and Shitake lipstick are my favorites and will purchase. Thanks for all the reviews, Christine.
My pleasure, Lily!
I really loved this collection and MAC hasn’t spoke to me in YEARS!
I think this is a true artist collection that is the antithesis of what the makeup world has been showing for the last few years. I have been officially tired of the 80’s redux that’s been happening and I needed something new to play with. There is some fabulous Nostalgia in this collection and there is development, for example Marsh and artificial earth are a take on NARS Earth Angel duo and Natural Wilderness and Stony are a modern nude that will make blue or grey eyes sing. Also the natural contouring with the blushes is lovely.
MAC truly translated the feel of many F/W 2014 collections into ‘Artificially Wild’
I’ll pick up everything but the lipglass, CCB and the Next to skin blush hasn’t a place on my
complexion. Thanks for the great swatching as always.
Nice! It has a very offbeat vibe to me – I love how they’ve brought back discontinued favorites from the 90s to round it out.
Definitely a few pieces I would like to pick up from this collection. It’s more about how some of these will work into the rest of my stash. I am more enthused following your reviews and swatches than I was looking at the sneak peek.
It’s definitely a collection of shades that are better shown worn than just swatched, I think!
I think the items that struck me most from this collection were the Icon lipstick and the Taupe blush! I admit, I may have to actually go as far as swatching that taupe blush when this collection eventually surfaces here (we’re on Sharon and Kelly Osborne at the moment, LOL!), because it’s very rare that a brand manages to combine cool taupe and a hint of pink in a way that looks like it might be contourable for us vampires!
Oooh, the temptation is strong with Taupe.
Still love that Photo lipstick. Sigh – it will probably take 6 months to reach Australia.
Aww! 🙁
I really had to change my mind when it came to this collection. At first I disliked everything about it, now I really like and even love parts of it.
Not sure what i’ll end up buying, if anything, as one never knows if the collections will make it here. I’m not checking the MAC counter weekly, maybe I should.
It’s always crazy how some collections arrive… others don’t. I guess the only way to know is to ask the local counter.
I sometimes go up to makeup counters, not just the MAC one to ask if/when a new product, LE or whatever it might be will arrive. At MAC the usually, but not always knows what I’m talking about at other counters they may not even have heard about it, looking at me like I’m a crazy person. They might be right about that, actually 😀
LOL! I have had that happen many times here 😉
I like the blushes and the explicit Lipglass, and the Icon and Shitake lipsticks. A lot of these colors will only look good on someone with autumn coloring, IMO. I’ve never seen a collection like this, so major points for creativity.
I feel like it’s definitely off the beaten path as far as colors go, so it’s very fun to see!
Curious about MAC CCBs in general. Does this tend to be a problem product for MAC, or is it a fluke that these 2 colors, so opposite, both were duds?
They’re normally short-wearing for me – like five to six hours – but otherwise they don’t miss the mark.
Pink cult!!! I’m glad they te promoted this blush!.
Me too!
