MAC Artificially Wild Eyeshadows
MAC Artificially Wild features four new, limited edition shades of MAC Eyeshadows ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.). I really liked these, as I felt they were nicely pigmented with soft, blendable textures, but they were also more unusual colors, partially due to the satin finish.
MAC Artificial Earth Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “soft mauve nude [with a Satin finish].” It’s a light-medium, neutral pink with a soft, frosted finish. It had good color payoff, while the texture was soft, velvety, and blendable. The color wore well for eight hours before fading slightly. Stila Pink Diamond (P) is more shimmery, lighter. theBalm #32 (P, $6.50) is more shimmery. Anastasia Ballet (LE) is less shimmery, pinker, warmer. Urban Decay Minor Sin (LE, $18.00) is lighter, pinker. MAC Pink Frontier (P, $21.00) is warmer, more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Marsh Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “soft dirty olive green [with a Satin finish].” It’s a softened, medium-dark olive green with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nice pigmentation that went on easily and wore well for eight hours. MAC Olive Blend #3 (LE) is more shimmery. theBalm #16 (P, $6.50) is more shimmery. Tarina Tarantino Dandy Lion (LE) is brighter. Anastasia Moss (LE) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Natural Wilderness Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dirty mustard golden nude [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium-dark, ochre brown with warm, yellow undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had excellent color payoff with a soft, velvety texture that was very blendable on the lid. This shade lasted for eight and a half hours on me. MAC Au Nature (LE, $21.00) is a cream product. MAC Outre (LE, $15.00) is darker, browner, warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Stony Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “soft grey concrete [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium-dark, neutral-to-warm-toned pewter with a satin sheen. It’s a mix of brown, green, and silver/gray. It had mostly opaque color payoff, and the texture was soft and smooth like the other shades. It lasted for eight hours on me before fading. Stila Substance (P) is darker. NARS Lost Coast #1 (LE, $24.00) is lighter. theBalm #19 (P, $6.50) is lighter, warmer. L’Oreal Gilded Envy (755) (P, $7.99) is darker, more shimmery. CoverGirl Ashen Glow Flame (335) (P, $7.99) is a cream product. MAC Antique Diamond (P, $18.50) is a cream, more shimmery. MAC Modern Pewter (LE, $19.50) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

None of these really draw my attention, I like my eyeshadows to be more pigmented and not as subtle.
Totally understand!
Natural Wilderness and Stony stand out to me! Do you know if these come out at the same time as the Simpsons collection, Christine? Because it’s a bummer if so!
Yes, they do.
Marsh eye shadow is beautiful. Will definitely purchase. Love all greens.
Yay! 🙂
I wish they’d done these as a quad palette! I may well end up getting all of them. The only question in my mind is Artificial Earth, which looks a lot like Nars Cairo which I already own. Love these original shades.
They’re really neat! I liked how they were more unique.
What eye liner are you wearing on the lower lid? Very pretty!
These are nicer than I expected. Not sure…
Tarina Tarantino Sparkling Ammunition!
Now that I love!!!
I’m liking Stony. I think I’ll check it out in the store before I make up my final decision. It would be a good mid-tone shade that I seem to be lacking.
I hope it’s the mid-tone shade you’ve been needing!
Marsh and Natural Wilderness are so interesting! I’m definitely loving these super earthy tones.
Me too!
Though the quality’s been all over the place in this collection I like the somewhat unsual colours it has. Wish they were permenant though – I want to try natural wilderness out, I think it’ll work well with my skintone.
Natural Wilderness is such a unique shade!
Stony looks really nice! I also like Artificial Earth, to some extent. I’m afraid it might get somewhat lost on my skin though.
The shimmer in it might make help it not get lost, but I hear what you’re saying!
I love Natural Wilderness.
Yay! 🙂
this collection is so friggin WEIRD I love it
Haha!
I love a good neutral! The fact that these are straight A’s is definitely making me sit up and pay attention! 🙂 Love Stoney and artificial earth a lot!
They’re really nice! MAC usually is hit/miss with their satin formula, but these worked well.
Artificial Earth and Stony aren’t bad!
“aren’t bad” sounds like code for skipping, though!
Artificial Earth and Stony look nice.
They’re nice mid-tones!
Artificial earth and stony are really pretty. Not too keen on the other two though
I really dig Natural Wilderness, just because it’s so unusual!
What a beautiful collection i’m so glad they all perform well.
Me too! 🙂 Surprise!
Marsh is so pretty!
It’s so well-named, too!
They look nice! Is stoney comparable to macs warming trend? It’s one of my favorites and I’m almost at pan!
Warming Trend seems a lot warmer to me!
I’m strangely more enthused about this collection than my initial impression had me. It’s not so much, the collection as a whole, rather I can see the individual pieces working well in my stash.
I think these will work nicely incorporated into existing collections – they’re all kind of mid-tone to me, and they have enough undertone and color differentiation that they do work together… but I think they’ll pop even more with other shades.
Very pretty! Soft, subtle colors. I’m definitely going to pick these up because they’ll show up nicely on my skintone. 🙂 Yeah for unusual colors that are still wearable.
They’re amazing earth tones!
Marsh and Stony are interesting colours that I feel like I don’t see a lot of (somehow?) I like the natural look you did with these
It’s amazing how few dupes there are for all of these shades in general!
I really like Artificial Earth and Stony. I’m fair and think they would be great for fall.
I think so, too!
I really like all four, but I don’t think Natural wilderness would work with my skintone. I would love if it surprises me and do, as these colours are so interesting I wan’t all of them. I also love how well nemed Marsh is 🙂
They really nailed the color/name of Marsh!
I’m NC 50, so these shades would probably be sheer on my lids and I don’t need any more highlighter shades. If they were suitable for my complexion, I would buy them in a hot minute. I think they’re beautiful neutrals. In the photos Natural Wilderness resembles Mac’s Uninterrupted e/s which I love and wear regularly. I am considering the cream e/s Au Nature to wear as a cream base.
I’d love to see more shades like these (in varying intensities/depths)!
I think Natural Wilderness is revolting (but unusual and original). The other three are OK, but nothing outstanding or terribly original. I feel like I already own similar colors.
You are lucky to already own similar shades!
Nothing really caught my eyes except for Artificial Earth. Too bad the pigmentation doesn’t look like it’s there :\
Aw!
Thanks for the great swatches!
The only item I want from this collection is the eye shadow Artificial Earth because it appears to be the closest to my favorite Modest Tone.
My pleasure!
Love Natural Wilderness, but it reminds me a lot of Makeup Geek “Preppy”
Preppy is browner on me – not quite as yellow-y!
I absolutely LOVE these colors, especially Natural Wilderness!
Yay!
Natural Wilderness looks like it’ll be a great transition color
Agreed!
To my lasting dismay, I missed out on Modern Pewter, so Stony is going on my “to buy” list for sure.
Hope it takes some of the pain away from missing Modern Pewter!
How does natural wilderness compare to makeup geek preppy?
Preppy isn’t as olive-toned – browner, warmer!
Thanks for the review and the pretty swatches 🙂 I think this collection is looking really neat altogether and I like it a lot 🙂 Also it´s a different look than many MAC-collections before (a lot of them were bright and bronze-y in the past months – nothing wrong with that but now this stands out). I`m not quite sure they work for really cool complexions, though, seems a tad warm-neutral – kind of like “Spring” in the four seaon colour system.
Perhaps for Artificial Earth and Stony I can find a similar look in the Neutral Cool 15-palette (bought it after all), with Sweet Allure and French Clay – I know they are not dupes but not too far away.
btw, Christine, we can finally buy UD in Germany =) and the prices are not higher than they were from Sephora France, which is pretty good. 🙂
YAY! So glad UD is now available in Germany!!
I ended up getting Natural Wilderness! I think it is a great color to have in a collection, plus I think I can make it work as a nice crease shade! Thanks for the wonderful swatches! 🙂
Yayyyy!
How close is natural wilderness to like say bobby browns shadow camel?
Hey Joall!
I can’t recall having that shade, unfortunately!
HI Christine – I love this collection and purchased all four eyeshadows. I tried the lovely ook you show in this post but am having trouble getting each color to show up individually. After I put Stony in the crease, everything goes a bit muddy. Do you have any tips or suggest applying in a particular order? Thank you so much. Your blog is my beauty bible!
I apply Artificial Earth first, then Natural Wilderness, then Marsh, then Stony! With colors that are this similar, you want to do as little blending as possible. I used MAC 239 to place all four shades!
