Bright-but-Wearable Pink Lips by Rimmel

Rimmel Dizzy Lasting Finish Lipstick ($5.19 for 0.14 oz.) is a beautiful shade of brightened medium pink with a soft blue undertone. It has a subtle frosted sheen, but it doesn’t feel or lean too frosty to me. The color coverage is excellent; it delivers opaque color and nearly covers my lip freckle. Lasting Lipstick has a creamy feel when applied, and while I wouldn’t describe it as moisturizing, it doesn’t dry out my lips either. It has a synthetic, fruity scent that’s a bit sweet but tolerable and doesn’t linger once applied.

From the get-go, this lipstick has all the makings of a great lipstick. My issue with this lipstick has to do with the claims it’s making about how long it wears. Rimmel says that it “locks colour to lips for up to 8 hours of wear.” Try one, maybe two. I typically get four hours of wear out of the average lipstick, but with Rimmel, I find the color has faded substantially by hour two. We don’t even get close to eight.

It’s really disappointing, because I can’t give this product high marks when it falls so short of the claims it makes. I evaluate products based on what they’re supposed to do, not what I want to do or what’s “good enough.” I recognize that this is a remarkably pigmented, smooth, creamy lipstick formula with an affordable price tag, but it’s not enough: it does not do what it’s supposed to do.

  • Product: 21/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: If you’re on a budget and looking for more pigmented lipstick, Rimmel’s Lasting Finish seems to have some good options, as long as you don’t mind reapplying every couple hours.  I think this is one of the better budget-friendly lipsticks I’ve tried, but it doesn’t last long on lips at all.

I love rimmel lipsticks (even though they don’t last too long)! Do you think dizzy is a good shade to pair with purple e/s, stars and rockets and/or dames desire? I’m never really sure! I’m fair skinned, hazel eyes, strawberry blondeish–dark golden blonde with hg lts. Also, if you ever have the chance, check out airy fairy! With a name like that how could you go wrong?:)

oooh, it is pretty! i generally set the bar fairly low for claims like that, just because i tend to unconsciously lick or bite my lips and have to reapply anyway… for a color that perfect, i might have to chance it.

sooo….it looks like my MUFE…though my MUFE is 15€ more expensive…then again it might last longer…I would buy that if I didin’t have the MUFE though…I reapply lippies all the time anyway XD

I have several Rimmel lipsticks and they don’t last more than 2 hours on me. Its unfortunate but I still love them. It’s only like $4 at walmart by me! I’ll have to check out this color. My newest Rimmel addition is “Nostalgia” it’s a bright coral-ish pink. Great for summer. If I know I need my liptsick to last I’ll pick a MAC lippie but otherwise I reach for my Rimmel’s quite a bit.

Maybe it is just with this sade because I own two of those lipsticks (two dark shade, a bright red and a dark berry) and I have about 5 to 6 hours of wear with those shades.

Totally agree, Rimmel lipsticks are nicely pigmented and creamy, but somehow they wear off so fast :/

But let’s face it, there are also high-priced lippies that need to be reapplied just as often and easily cost five or more times as much…so whatever, if there’s a colour I crave, I buy it, even if I have to reapply often xD

Super pretty! Lipstick doesn’t last very long anyways if you drink lots of water and snack throughout the day. 😛 Seems like a good investment for $5. Cute color!

I use to have a bunch of these lipsticks during university…(not this shade specifically) They were perfect for the average student budget, and allowed me to be able to experiment with makeup a little without breaking the bank. They are’t as good as certain other brands in terms of longevity etc, but the way I see it, it’s a trade off.

This shade reminds me of MAC A Rose Romance (which I love). I tried Rimmel’s Airy Fairy, which seems to be popular, but I just couldn’t get past the smell/texture and tossed it. Maybe I should try them out again . . .

I love this color!! I am a cosmetic snob, the less expensive brand I buy is MAC. I normally use Guerlain, Givenchy, Chantecaille, Armani, Shu Uemura etc. But I have to buy this lipstick! The color is gorgeous on you!

Man, that’s cute! I have 2 Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks (Heavenly and Celeb) so I might have to scope this one out too… I agree that they are most decidedly NOT long lasting lipsticks, but the formula is so creamy and I like the smell (I don’t get fruity, just a hint of spice) that I am willing to forgive that… Though I do notice that Heavenly (a deep plum berry) does last longer then Celeb (medium pink) on me… YMMV.

What a pretty color! It’s a shame that it doesn’t live up to its name, but I think I could deal with reapplying it.

PS – I must have been living under a rock, but I just discovered your blog a couple weeks ago, and now I am completely addicted! Thank you for all of your wonderful reviews and tutorials, and all of the work you put into the site overall!

Hi,

I have tried this lipstick by them myself. You are right. Nice colors but they don’t stay on past 2 hours. Also, their new moisturizing line doesn’t stay on well either. Just an FYI there…nice line..makes lips feel soft, etc. Comes off in about 3 hours max…

Wow. I tried this at the drustore and it looked WAY darker on me. But the next shade up, Shimmering Champagne or something was really pretty. Hmmm…

Beautiful shade. ;D I am not a big fan of pink lipsticks, since they are too barbie-like to me, but this one was pretty, its not a too bright pink shade. I am searching for some not-so bright and affordable midtone pinks, I maybe will check this one out! ^^

I just discover we had Rimmel where I live, so that made me really happy (just wish we had revlon as well, since heard their products are very populare in US). I love Rimmel lipsticks (have 3 ones so far), same goes with wet n wild lipsticks, because they are so affordable (but someday I will get my hands on some MAC Lipsticks! xD … but for now I just stick to low to mid end lip products to stock up my stash with. :}).
And they smell/”taste” nice and easy to apply too. Whether Rimmel are long-lasting or not doesnt bother me at all though because no lipsticks has stayed on more than 2-3hours.
lol, I refuse to use primer, lipliner etc to make the lip colors last longer since its too time consuming to me :/.

Personally, I don’t believe in the “claims” that MakeUp brands are telling us, especially with how longlasting they are or anti-wrinke/plumping benefits. 😛
