Revlon Demure (105) Colorburst Lacquer Balm

I have three more shades of Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) to share with you! (Then I’m all out, but I’m hoping to pick up the remaining shades when there’s a good sale!) You can see other shades I’ve reviewed here. To recap, the formula has a balm-like consistency–lightweight, slightly slick–and usually applies fairly easily. The color payoff varies from semi-sheer to mostly opaque, and it seems like lighter shades are sheerer, whereas the darker shades (reds, fuchsias, etc.) are more opaque. Oddly enough, the deeper shades also seem to be more hydrating (and unsurprisingly, longer-wearing). These have a mint-scent and slight mint flavor.

Demure (105) Colorburst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a soft, warm-toned peach with hints of pink and subtle white sparkle. It had semi-sheer color coverage; what it did was make my lips look more even, pinker, and lighter. I think this is a shade that can look very different from person to person as the natural lip color drastically alters the way it looks. I found this one a little drying, actually, and it only lasted for two and a half hours–so it’s my least favorite from the shades I’ve tried. Tom Ford Beauty Summer Fling (04) (LE, $49.00) is darker, warmer. Tarte Pink Peony (P, $16.00) is darker, pinker. Marc Jacobs Beauty Have We Met? (108) (P, $30.00) is darker, pinker. Revlon Pink Lemonade (P, $7.49) is lighter. MAC Flamingo (LE, $16.00) is darker. Guerlain Beatrix (LE, $48.00) is glossier. Chanel Jersey Rose (P, $34.00) is slightly warmer. See comparison swatches.

Flirtatious (125) Colorburst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a cool-toned, pinky-red with subtle ruby red shimmer. Applied, it’s a luscious, deeper pinky-red with a glossy, luminous shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage where the natural lip color peeked through only slightly. The color wore well for four and a half hours, and it did leave a slight stain as it wore away, and it was moderately hydrating. Too Faced Jelly Bean (P, $21.00) is pinker. Dior Minuit (LE, $36.00) is less glossy. MAC Prepare for Pleasure (LE, $16.00) is redder. MAC Love Goddess (LE, $16.00) is a bit brighter/pinker. See comparison swatches.

Ingenue (145) Colorburst Lacquer Balm ($8.99 for 0.095 oz.) is a peachy-brown with warm undertones and a soft, frosted sheen. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation when applied to lips. It was a smidgen hydrating, and it lasted for two and a half hours on me. MAC Fresh and Frisky (LE, $20.00) is warmer, lighter. Too Faced Sweet Maple (P, $21.00) is darker, more pigmented. MAC Glamour Era (P, $22.00) is more pigmented. Guerlain Gracieuse (P, $49.50) is brighter, more pigmented, warmer. See comparison swatches.

I really like Flirtatious and Ingenue. I love these, they make my lips feel amazing but I always love being able to see swatches before I purchase them. There are SO many colors so, it makes it hard to decide, especially without the swatches!

Shame about Ingenue not being great, I don’t see that colour a lot in drugstore brands. Flirtatious looks nice though. I’ve noticed (I think) you tend to give A’s more readily to reds – do you think they’re easier to make or something? Most of the reds seem to be nicely pigmented, even when the other colours are lacking.

There’s clearly some glittery bits in it but it doesn’t seem to transfer onto your lips. I’ve been avoiding these because of the glitter! Would you say it’s more noticeable in person or are some not shimmery at all?

OT: Would you consider reviewing the Hard Candy line that they brought back exclusively to Walmart? I used Hard Candy in the 90s and was wondering your thoughts on it!

I like Demure & Ingenue. Flirtatious is really pretty, but if I go for a bold lip, I prefer fully opaque. With the lighter shades, I’m fine with sheer.

I have Demure & love it. It’s great for minimal makeup days. My lips are more pigmented than yours, so it looks different on me. It’s a great product for a nude lip. These remind me a lot of Tarte’s lip products in the same packaging, but Tarte’s are more gritty feeling. Not a fan of those, at all.
