Revlon Cruise Collection ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick
Revlon Cruise Collection ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick ($9.99 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium, warm-toned coral with subtle golden copper shimmer. NARS Beautiful Liar is warmer, more orange. MAC Lady at Play is lighter. MAC Hibiscus is brighter. Guerlain Rouge Sensuel is redder. Guerlain Nahema is lighter. Guerlain Chamade is similar. Guerlain Bal de Mai is darker. Burberry Pink Amber is pinker, less shimmery. See comparison swatches.
The texture is slick, slightly tacky, and has a natural sheen but nothing too shiny or glossy (but not totally matte). It feels somewhat thin, and it applies and looks a bit like a lip stain/lipstick hybrid. The color was semi-sheer to semi-opaque. Initially, I was loving the texture, feel, and look of this product, but after wearing it for a few hours, I was less enamored. The major problem with the formula is that it sucked the moisture right out of my lips (which were hydrated and smooth prior to application), and the drier my lips became, the more uneven and flaky the lip color started to look. It managed to last for about five hours, though it became progressively unflattering over the last two hours of wear. The formula is, unfortunately, touted as long-wearing with lots of hydration.

What a shame that it is so drying 🙁 It surprised me. I have a few ColorBurst lip butters en ColorBurst lipsticks by Revlon, and those are all VERY hydrating.
This looks like an amazing color!
I hate any kind of longwear lipstick like this because they wear off all flaky, the center of your mouth wears off first and leaves a ring of flaky lipstick around your lips and when you reapply it gets all lumpy and gross. I wish they’d just give up on the concept and realize lipstick just has a limited wear time by it’s very nature.
I don’t like the packaging on these.
I bought this a while back in “Finale” (red) and while the colour is pretty and finished look is velvety, I too found it drying, my lips ended up peeling and glued together at some point, and just uncomfortable. I’d give it a D for performance.
Yeah, this has always been my problem with the Ultimate Suede lipsticks. I thought that at first it was a dud one and when I bought another one, it was the same. I love the colors and the initial feeling, but they’re so drying after a while it’s just such a put off.
What a shame, I really like the color!
Hi Christine, just a quick comment on your new website layout. I’m loving it! I especially like that dupe list after the review. It’s super handy to see them all there. Thank you!
Yay!!
Aww…too bad about it being so drying. How does the colour compare to Dior Versailles?
Versailles looks pretty different on me: http://www.temptalia.com/dior-versailles-rouge-dior-lip-color-review-photos-swatches
Shame. I think Muse said she found them drying as well, so I guess it’s an issue across the board. That’s a shame because some of the mattte shades looked very compelling. 🙁
Huh, this is not how I expected these to look at all. I expected then to be opaque, and much more matte. If they’re also drying on top of that, these will be a pass for me!
This Ultimate Suede line gets nothing but hate in the blogosphere, but I happen to adore them. I have backstage and iconic, and I get compliments on them every time I put them on! Oh well, more for me!
Do you find them drying or moisturizing at all? I’m glad they work for you! I bought a bunch, because I thought they were going to be amazing!
It’s funny that you say that. Many bloggers thought these would perform better. Revlon usually does lip products so well. I was expecting these to be like mac mattenes from the name. I waited for reviews, none have been favorable, so I’ve never purchased. I hope revlon launches a matte line in the future.
Revlon has a matte line in the collection super lustrous! I have “Smoked Peach” and I particulary didn’t like it, but my friend has “Really Red” that is an excellent dupe to Ruby Woo!
I might try this if I can find a coupon. With the way I go through Bal de Mai, it’d be nice to find a cheap dupe. But I don’t want to pay $10 if I’m unsure of the formula.
I love the hint of gold glimmer in the flash- bummer its drying… Might still be worth the $10 price tag, though.
i have this in the color Socialite and while it does really last, your lips will not thank you for it afterwards. Pretty color, but sticky and drying.
i had high hopes but no.
I tried a few of these shades and was very disappointed. I liked the thinness of the formula but it felt way too slippery for my liking. It was also, as you mentioned, very drying for me. Not cool when you already suffer from chronically dry lips :/
I have to agree this lipstick is very drying. Probably one of the worst lipsticks I’ve ever purchased. 🙁
I have one of the same collection (it’s called Finale) and I had the same problem you did! At first I was in love with it, but somehow the lipstick got so dried that it came out of my lips just like a skin. Not only I hate it, but now I find it disgusting too.
The color is pretty nice, but I’m staying away from these Suede lippies because of the lack of hydration. I’ve heard other shades were drying too.
For once,i am strangely unhappy to say,is temptalia is wrong about this lipstick.
Having over a 100 lipsticks in my stash from guerlain to oriflame, i have to say the suede lipstick is worth a buy.I have one in finale and want to buy a few more of the usual colours.
The brightness of colour, and the number of hours it stays is such a wonderful thing for a person who doesnt always have access for a touch up after lunch “right” after lunch. It is certainly drying and after about 4 hrs,its best to re-apply afresh. Funnily enough,i have very dry lips, and regularly wearing this ensures my lips are exfoliated on a daily basis.
