Profumum Santalum Perfume Review

Profumum Santalum Perfume Review

Profumum Roma Santalum Eau de Parfum is an ode to sandalwood in its woody richness, and later, creamier undertones, accented by drier spices and subtle sweetness. It had a cooler, earthier opening that lasted for less than 10 minutes before warmer sandalwood and myrrh arrived and pretty much never left!

  • top notes: sandalwood
  • heart notes: myrrh, coriander, balm
  • base notes: spices, nutmeg

The opening was incredibly earthy: a romp through a damp forest with felled trees, crunchy leaves underfoot, and fresh greenery. It was even musty–cool, crisp, and gave all the vibes of a forbidden forest after nightfall. The dampness disappeared as the warmth of sandalwood and myrrh came through, followed by toasted coriander that was almost peppery and quite savory in feel.

After 10 minutes, the spices were absorbed by the rich sandalwood, so they worked to accentuate the dryness and woodiness of the sandalwood. The spices were very muffled after a half hour, and it was linear from there, only softening and getting creamier, smoother, and a touch sweeter through the drydown.

Application

For testing, I used 1/3 of a 1ml sample vial (purchased January 2022) dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.

Longevity

It lasted for eight hours until it was a skin-scent and about 14 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with the sillage dropping faster than the projection after four hours of wear.

Personal Thoughts

I felt like I really had the chance to understand and enjoy the nuances of sandalwood in this fragrance, which I really enjoyed! It didn’t immediately strike me as a must-have scent for my personal arsenal but certainly a sample I’ll re-wear and finish.

Available Sizes
