Maybelline Electric Orange is a moderately warm-toned, medium-dark orange with a natural finish. It is a discontinued lipstick that retails for $7.99 and contains 0.15 oz.

Editor's Review

Maybelline Electric Orange ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color ($7.99 for 0.15 oz.) is a bright, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to the lips. The lipstick was lightly creamy with moderate slip but did not slide around while worn. I did notice a subtle amount of color that had settled into my lip lines. It wore well for four and a half hours and was moisturizing over time.

I've reviewed this formula (and I believe the majority of shades released) before, but it's one of my favorite drugstore lipstick formulas and wanted to update swatches. I was dismayed to see how many shades were discontinued, though, as there are only seven in the current range. The Vivids formula is supposed to have "vibrant color" and a hydrating feel. I repurchased the seven shades still available, and I re-tested them (and re-swatched/photographed!). Overall, the Vivids formula has a very smooth, creamy consistency that has moderate slip and a luminous sheen and semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation. They felt hydrating to me over time and were comfortable to wear. They have a moderate, sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste.

For its price, this is an outstanding lipstick. It delivers bright, nearly opaque coverage in a single swipe. I wouldn't necessarily compare its intensity to a lipstick like Morange, but it's defiantly enough brightness, pigment and intensity for the average consumer. For me personally, I wanted it to be a little more opaque. My lip color shows through a little, but I have really pigmented lips. I suggest putting some lip erase, concealer or foundation underneath.

Electric Orange is a budget-friendly version of many true-orange dupes in the higher end range (like MAC or Illamasqua). This is truly pigmented--one swipe delivers near opaque coverage. This isn't a super bright orange, but it's an intense orange, a bit on the warm side...so it doesn't work well with my skin color. This is a lipstick you'll either like or hate.
