Paul & Joe Beaute Once Upon a Time (081) Lipstick CS Review, Photos, Swatches

Paul & Joe Beaute Once Upon a Time (081) Lipstick

Paul & Joe Beaute Lipstick CS ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is supposed to be incredibly hydrating with vibrant color and is sold as refills. You can choose your case design, which is colored cardboard with a pattern over it, and the cases cost $5 each (mine is encased with the 009 design). The formula was lightweight, moderately moisturizing, and has a rosy scent.

Once Upon a Time (081) is described as a “bright and bold pumpkin shade, reminiscent of Cinderella’s carriage.” It’s a slightly lightened medium orange with warm, yellow and orange undertones and a soft shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it wore well for four and a half hours. This type of orange is actually harder to dupe, because it has strong yellow undertones and doesn’t lean red at all. MAC Tart & Trendy (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Sounds Like Noise (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC Saigon Summer (LE, $15.00) is darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Banjee (P, $18.00) is yellower. See comparison swatches.

Wow, I love this! I think they sell Paul & Joe at Selfridges, might see if this is out in the UK already 🙂

Does anyone know if this looks at all similar to MAC’s Sheer Mandarin? That colour is HG for me but I do wonder about a better formula sometimes 🙂 xx

I still can’t pull off orange, but this one is actually really nice! I like the fact it is very subtle, as some orange lippies can be a bit overwhelming.

I agree, it’s a beautiful nude orange shade on you! What skin tone do you think this is best suited for? I’m light, with warm to neutral undertones (NARS Glow Foundation in Gobi, Sue Devitt Tanami, Armani Lasting Silk in 4.75). Do you think this would work for me? Thanks for the review and your help!

Wow, this is lovely! I’ve never tried Paul & Joe before. I’ve noticed that orangey colors that lean yellow look better than ones that lean redder or browner (I’ve noticed it with both lipsticks and blushes in the peach and orange shades). Once Upon A Time sounds like a great one to try out.

It’s funny, I never thought of tangerine orange and silver as being a good color combination, but I saw the NARS eyeshadow trio Ramatuelle the other day and now I see this, and I think it looks lovely.

I love Paul & Joe, I wish it’s more widely available offline. Even in Indonesia where they had counters there were only one or two in the entire country.

For those who may not know, Paul & Joe Beaute products are made by the same Japanese company that made Anna Sui Beauty products, Albion — The main difference between Albion’s sub-brands are the aesthetics/designer packaging. I recall being very confused why the Anna Sui Beauty website was in Japanese. XD
