Pat McGrath Divine Rose Mothership Palette recently released (and promptly sold out) as a Selfridges exclusive, though yours truly obviously managed to make a–successful!–mad dash to buy one. You’ll find swatches below!

Worth noting, there are three shades within the palette that have previously been released: Skinshow Nude is from the Subliminal palette, Rose Dusk is from the Sublime palette, and Astral Solstice is from the Midnight Sun palette. Iridescent Pink 003 is very similar to the Iridescent Pink 003 in the Sublime Skin Highlighter formula but felt a bit different overall (by memory, I’ll be looking more closely at it when testing, obviously! The ingredient lists are very similar but a few things are out of order.).

As of 11/6, Pat McGrath’s Instagram has said to “stay tuned” for a special announcement tomorrow at 10AM ET.

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Looks like cache didn’t clear before the post loaded for you as I added a sentence about 30 seconds after publishing!

I’m not 100% certain it is the same (the colors are very comparable, though!) formula – by memory, it doesn’t have quite the same texture (the one in the palette is a bit more powdery) and the ingredient list isn’t quite the same (which might account for the texture). It’s mentioned above, but I will look more closely at the two while testing but wanted to get swatches up ASAP!

I (somehow) managed to grab this palette and it arrived last night, so I got to give it a whirl this morning. Pictures absolutely do not do it justice; it’s just stunning. I was concerned Velouria would be too light to show up even on me (MAC NC12) but it definitely swatches and applies darker than it looks in the pan.

VR Rose Venus is up there among the most stunningly beautiful shades PMG has ever produced, in my opinion (and I have her entire collection for comparison).

Mimi Avatar

Yay that you managed to snag one Chrstine and thanks for posting swatches so quickly! I saw in the comments on Instagram that PMG replied to someone’s saying that this palette will be available on their site “in November”. So here’s to hoping it will be available for everyone soon!

Mimi Avatar

I had screenshotted an exchange a few days ago on IG where PMG replied saying “in November.” But I checked now and the original comment is there but PMG’s reply has vanished! So you’re right that they are deleting their own comments. (Wonder why?) I still see a couple responses from them that are less definite like “stay tuned” so I guess we’ll all just be on the look out! ?

In my mind… either they already have plan to launch it in the US (regardless of how it sold elsewhere), and so inventory was already made and reserved for a US launch or else they’d have to decide to make more and sell it at some point in the future. The latter is… who knows? Decadence wasn’t run again as far as I know – we saw that ultra brief return on Sephora but was most likely still stock from before, just reallocated (especially as it coincided with some “vault” sale PMG ran directly and then a few “vault” sets that Sephora had when Decadence popped back).

I’d be surprised if they didn’t manufacture their quantities already, so whatever they’ve made, that’s… all we’re working with. If they didn’t plan to sell in the US to begin with, then they’d have to divert remaining inventory, which was probably already promised/agreed to with Selfridges/Sephora. It’s possible that if it doesn’t sell out that they could take the remaining stock and sell it wherever, but I don’t know about import/export and if that might change things as well.

I’m actually really tempted by this one, although I decided not to buy any more of her larger palettes, because I just don’t use them as much as smaller palettes. Her new quads were exactly what I’ve been waiting for from her, so I guess that’s enough PMG for this year. VR Rose Venus is gorgeous though.

Also, you put that Rose Dusk is from Subversive, when you meant Sublime. (The link correctly takes you to the Sublime palette though.)

Janetta Avatar

It was a reply in the comments of one of the posts but it seems to have been deleted. I took a screen shot and that specific comment that was replied to now has no replies. I hope that doesn’t mean we aren’t getting it ?.

GITA Avatar

I almost have all of her palettes and I couldn’t agree with you more… I would love to see a matte cream colored shade that would work well for the brow bone highlight!

Lesley Avatar

I couldn’t agree more! I own 4 of her Motherships and all three holiday quads, and I’m getting a little tired of the golds–especially since they are all so similar to each other. If she can do more duochromes, champagnes, silvers, heck… even rose golds, I would be an even happier collector.

Deborah S. Avatar

When I first saw this I immediately started lemming but on closer inspection with repeat shades, another unnecessary gold, so many light shades and the price point, I feel like I can safely pass on this. I would like some greens in the future, please Mother.

Valerie Avatar

She’s released 4 green shades – last year’s red opulence palette, Mothership II, Mothership VI: midnight sun, and this year’s blue-green-purple opulence quad.

Shawne Avatar

I think it would be a good business decision to release it in the US / CA. Idk what kind of deal they made with Selfridges (who I had never heard of before this). It’s such a neutral palette that I could really get some use out of — enough to justify the price. I’m sure a lot of people who have to wear neutrals to work would agree, it would be nice to have a PMG palette in that rotation. But isn’t this one also called Mothership VI? I thought I had heard that mentioned somewhere. For us here In the states the VI is Midnight Sun — so would this have to be renamed if sold here? I don’t really care, I would just like access to it.

Valerie Avatar

Hey Christine, so I snagged 2 of these. I learned the hard way with Decadence (got 2 in the overpriced aftermarket) that PMG’s LE is a true LE. And particularly since this was an exclusive.
I got this in the mail today and it is absolutely stunningly gorgeous beyond words. I gasped and wanted to cry, that’s how beautiful it is. I have all her palettes and it’s the prettiest one. But I’m a sucker for pinks and rose gold and roses and diamonds hehe.
VR Rose Venus is shockingly gorgeous. A friend who has already swatched both said there was a slight difference between Rose Dusk of MII and MVIdr, with the one from the latter being darker.
I really don’t mind that there are up to 4 repeat shades.. and as I told that friend, ask me if I care,
Go ahead ask.

Them: but do you care though
Me: no.

Christine Avatar

The criteria I’m rating it against wouldn’t change – it’s a repeat shade, not a new shade – that wouldn’t make sense to hold it to some different standard. The expectation is that the shade should be the same as it was released previously (that’s important for consistency). It might be of different quality or perform differently, so the rating could change, but the basis for the rating wouldn’t.

A lack of specifics about a shade doesn’t mean it’s a free for all.. a lot of brands don’t provide much insight on a shade-by-shade basis; formula-level descriptions/claims are usually where I get the basis for a review from, e.g. MAC Lipglass is touted as high coverage and they sometimes release and describe a shade as “sheer,” so then that one shade would be expected to be sheer.

Valerie Avatar

Right. They didn’t release claims about the shades this time (though @Trendmood listed a claim for “shimmering champagne” shades). Last time their description/photo factored into the calculation. So there’s going to be a discrepancy.

Christine Avatar

Hi Valerie,

From Pat McGrath on the domed formulas: “These hybrid formulations combine all of the best features of baked, powder, cream and fluid textures for high pick-up and opulent payoff. Created to ensure the perfect suspension of pigments for a range of finishes that radiate pure colour reflection and dramatic shine.”

This is the information that will take precedence in the absence of any more specific information for any Blitz, Astral, or 000 shades, but again… it’s a re-release of a shade, so it will be reviewed based on the same claims as Astral Solstice was in the Midnight Sun palette.

Jessica Avatar

Valerie,

This is Jessica. We talked repeatedly about Divine Rose. I appreciate your comments. I haven’t seen you comment recently. I wanted to make sure that you’re doing ok with what’s happening with the corona virus outbreak. I hope this message finds you ok. Just concern from one makeup lover to another.

Lesley Avatar

I just received this one in the mail, and to be honest… I’m very underwhelmed. I cannot even say that I am particularly adventurous with my eyeshadows, but I own Bronze Seduction, Midnight Sun, and Subliminal so there is that–but this Mothership does not quite live up to the other aforementioned ones I’ve just listed. The quality is obviously there, but I did expect a little more “glitz” from the special shades. I also own all three holiday quads, and I can say definitively that this isn’t necessary if you already have Ritualistic Rose.

Belinda A Avatar

Hi All, I have been an avid follower of Temptalia for a long time, but never posted. I just wanted to let you know that I have just confirmed an order of Divine Rose on Sephora Australia, so hopefully it will turn up soon in the US.

Christine Avatar

Please use our compare any two swatches tool! You can enter any two shades and see swatches side-by-side. It’ll get you your answer instantly! https://www.temptalia.com/side-by-side/?sbs_1_search=Pat+McGrath+Rose+Venus&sbs_1=381021&sbs_2_search=Pat+McGrath+VR+Rose+Venus&sbs_2=411058

They’re not the same shade – the colors are completely different and the formulas are completely different!

Valerie Avatar

I finally played with the palette this AM for a work-friendly look.
• Velouria looks quite a bit darker on me than in pan but blown out with a blending brush, it’s a gorgeous hue
• VR rose venus looks a lot more gold on me than that gorgeous pink swatch, which was slightly disappointing. I will try a few more things – layering directly over the other shades in the palette – before relegating it to “gold” category. It looks almost the same as Refined Gold on my lid with UD glitter glue.
• Iridescent pink is a stunning iridescent pink and different texture – smoother creamier – than the OG iridescent pink highlighter (which I’ve been up over a year and it somehow still looks almost new).
• Astral solstice as every bit as spectacular in this palette as in midnight sun and still one of the standout shades across all palettes.

Overall, it’s a gorgeous palette to look at and I am inspired to play with this palette a bit more for a final verdict. It wasn’t a runaway success only because the shades didn’t translate on my lids the same as they looked in pan.

The palette is already out on Sephora AUS, but the rest of the SEA-PAC region (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Hong Kong and New Zealand) hasn’t seen it yet.

Got this reply just now from Sephora Singapore: “We understand your interest in the Pat McGrath Labs Mothership: Divine Rose Eyeshadow Palette, well as of this time, we have still not been advised of when or if this will be carried by Sephora SG but we have already sent a request to our merchandising team to make the necessary purchase of said line as we have been receiving multiple inquiries regarding those and hoping it would be up on our page soon.”

Haley Avatar

I never wanted a Pat McGrath large size shadow palette before this (I am a huge fan of the Luxetrance lipsticks though) – gosh, these are all of my colors. I can’t buy any other her other palettes because the usual gold is way too warm toned and makes me look like zombie – this cooler tone gold and all of these mauve/roses are my HG. I hope it comes to the US!

Sandy Avatar

Glad you snagged it, Christine! I’m bummed that her special formula doesn’t work for me (I just returned Nocturnal Nirvana…it creased no matter what I did with the shadows). So, it’s an easy pass for me; I do love the two six pan palettes I have! So happy that people are excited!
