Pat McGrath Colour Blitz V2 Mini MatteTrance Trio Review & Swatches
Colour Blitz V2
Pat McGrath Colour Blitz V2 Mini MatteTrance Trio ($25.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a new, limited edition trio that features three, permanent shades in neon-colored packaging. The tubes have a much, much lighter and more plastic-like feel compared to the full-sized tubes, but the product was comparable in color, pigmentation, and performance. I felt like these seemed ever-so-slightly less matte when applied. I didn’t have any issues with the tips breaking or bending, which can be an issue with miniature lipsticks.

Fever Dream
Fever Dream is a deep, slightly pink-leaning coral with a semi-matte finish. It was richly pigmented with opaque coverage achieved in a single layer. The texture felt smooth, velvety, and glided easily over my lips without dragging or tugging. It was lightweight and comfortable to wear, though there was faint product that sank into my lip lines in the close-up photos that I wasn’t able to detect in person. It wore nicely for six and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.14 oz. - $271.43 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense without being too firm for one-stroke, glide-on application (I found the original shades to be slightly firmer compared to more newly released shades). They had nearly opaque to opaque coverage in one layer and most were buildable.
They had a subtle sheen--more satin-to-cream in finish--that wore down to a natural matte finish within an hour or two of wear. The formula lasted between four and eight hours on me, and while most weren't drying, they aren't "supreme[ly" hydrating either. They are, however, comfortable to wear over a longer period of time and reapply well. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Elson
Elson is a rich, medium-dark red with strong, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips in a single, fluid stroke. The texture was lightweight, velvety and smooth without feeling emollient or overly slippery on. It was comfortable to wear, and the color was still mostly intact after eight hours of wear and felt non-drying over time.

Guinevere
Guinevere is a deep red with subtle, neutral-to-warm undertones and a cream finish. It had a more noticeable sheen to it compared to other shades and also compared to the last tube I tried of this shade, though it was quick to wear down to a more velvet-matte finish within an hour or two (or blot once lightly). It had opaque color payoff that adhered evenly to my lips without tugging. The lipstick had a lightweight, velvety consistency that was comfortable to wear. This shade lasted well for over six hours and felt slightly hydrating over time.

Too bad that the full-sized version of Guinevere doesn’t look like this! I actually love that touch of satin finish!
But…these are in such gaudy, cheap looking packaging that I just cannot. I don’t mind it when she’s done cases in rich Tiffany blue, red or the Star Wars packaging, but these neons just aren’t doing it for me.
This is the trio that really interested me, but I think I’m going to pass. They are actually SO pigmented that I find them hard to apply without a lip brush. Really wonderful formula, but harder for me for day-to-day. Elson is gorgeous!
How strange that PMG continues to misread “luxe.” Heavy, sturdy packaging to me reads luxe—not lighter, more plastic-feeling packaging! And definitely no more of those obnoxious plastic sequins! The products may perform well but the presentation seems lacking.
Is this confirmed limited edition? On Pat’s website, only the lipglosses are listed as LE, the lipsticks are in the kit section. On Sephora, it just says “exclusive”. Just curious if you have more concrete info that isn’t listed anywhere.
As far as I’m aware, all of the mini kits are limited edition.
While I’m not a fan of neon colors as eyeshadow, packaging, lettering, anything whatsoever, I did order both trios since I travel so much. I need to have some smaller sizes. I happen to really like Elson and Guinevere in larger sizes, so I’m happy to keep those at home while I travel and bring these along.
Only TSA agents will care, because I’m the only one that will see the packaging along with them while scanning my luggage. Fingers are crossed, however, that the neon was a ONE TIME deal. Let that be limited edition. 🙂
Fever Dream is such a pretty one .
I like the minis since I never seem to finish a full size.
What stunning shades and although the packaging maybe less than lux for the price, the colours chosen in this trio are beautiful.
I hope that the problems with the mini Elson at Sephora do not continue into the mini set. Mine was just a tad dislodged, not wrecked. Guinevere is terrific, especially as it was SO every time I tried to order it. This post made me wear it today. Total classic.
I love that they offer these minis, but wish they’d stop with the big plastic bag and sequins. It seems extra wasteful. Has anyone found a good practical use for the sequins? I asked my daughter to bring them in to her art teacher, and she refused.
I adore Guinevere. It’s my only shade of her Mattetrance and it looks gorgeous on my skin while wearing like a dream (granted, the Luxetrance still feel a lot nicer on the lips). I’m not interested in the coral and though I’d like to have Elson, I’m not sure I’d be willing to grab the little set just for one shade – even if I could find someone to share the others with.
I do really like these little guys. I recently acquired the balm set and looooooove it immensely. In an already far too large collection it’s nice to have smaller sizes.
