Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Vain Lip Tar

OCC Vain Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep, dark indigo.” It’s a rich, medium-dark blue with a soft shine. It’s cool-toned, but it seems to be a subtle, cool undertone. The color will stain the lips for a good while, just as a heads up. I couldn’t think of any dupes of this shade from the blue lipsticks I’ve reviewed in the past.

The consistency of the Lip Tar was thinner, more watery, compared to others I’ve tried, which made application trickier, even though I used OCC’s Lip Brush. It also has a glossier finish that lingers for three to four hours before it wears down to more of a satin-matte one. If you want a matte finish from the get-go, I’d recommend blotting once, which should take down the shine without removing all the color, as it is quite pigmented (despite the thinner texture). I also had some feathering with this shade that was noticeable after six hours of wear and worsened over the next two hours. It lasted for eight and a half hours on me, and it was neither drying nor hydrating.

I think I have one or two in my collection that are thinner than the rest. It’s really hard to build the color to fully opaque without bleeding or feathering. On those I have to wait quite awhile between layers. They’re a ton more work but this color looks super worth it!

This looks so cool and unique I’m really appreciating that more brands are releasing lip colors other than nudes pinks reds and purples. I could see myself Pairing this with a subtle smokey eye because it will look so rock star-ish. thanks for the review.

I don’t think I like this one as much because it looks slightly green to me (maybe because the others were more purple). But, you’ve now totally convinced me to buy a blue lipstick. Just have to decide which one!

I thought ‘teal’ too, almost immediately when I saw it in the swatch! 😀 I love the idea of the lipstick, and the potential for mixing and tinting. Since it stains, I wonder if it might make a good stain base to help out other, less even blue lipsticks (especially on that inner lip area)? Do you think you could use it that way, Christins?

Obviously Technopagan still reigns supreme in my heart, but there’s always room for another blue or purple lipstick, LOL 😉

So, are your second lip swatch pics after you blot them or after a while of wear??? I’ve always wondered. I dig this dark blue. I like how glossy it is, but I have a good matte dark blue with melt DGAF.

Holy wow… This is one I would never wear but it would be really cool for editorial/fashion looks! Is it weird to see yourself in atypical lip colors all the time?

OCC Vain looks really similar to MAC Lipmix in Blue. The Lipmix is a touch brighter/warmer, and it feels more like a thick cream before applied. It wears well and is less glossy, for either an alternative or a base to mix with Vain.

Do you ever get weird stares in public because of your lip shades or makeup that you need to try out? Love this on you if only i could wear this without looking horrible haha xx

Sephora used to make a blue lipstick. This reminds me of it, but it’s been so long that I might be mistaken. I wish sephora still had their enormous shade range.

This is one of those colours that I would be too scared to wear but absolutely love on other people! It’s just so interesting, definitely down for the blue lips!

this is definitely a unique shade of blue .

still on the fence about it after reading about the consistency & feathering .

however , i’m for sure getting technopagan & pagan !

🙂

I LOVE this colour! the only disappointment is probably the fact that it’s labelled as a matte finish, and it’s soooo glossy. (not that i mind, I think the glossiness is super pretty)

Helene Avatar

I didn’t think I’d like this one, but I do! Not as much as I like Technopagan of course. Pity it is runny and feathery. An invisible lip liner might take care ot the feathering though.
