NYX Black Cherry Tart Intense Butter Gloss
NYX Black Cherry Tart Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a blackened purple with warm, berry undertones and a cream finish. Unsurprisingly, the shade applied poorly as it was prone to streaking and pulling into those pesky lip lines. It was only semi-opaque, so the lack of coverage made all those application flaws particularly noticeable. Over a lip liner or lipstick, it could certainly work, but on its own, it is a bit messy. It lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Flight of Fancy (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, warmer. Urban Decay Apocalypse (P, $22.00) is lighter, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Wet Violet (P, $45.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Modern Lure (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter. Dior Intrigue (995) (P, $35.00) is lighter, brighter. Urban Decay Apocalypse (P, $19.00) is less glossy. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Chocolate Crepe Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a plummy brown with warm, rosy undertones and a cream finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly without drawing much attention to lip lines. The gloss wore well for four hours and wore away evenly while it didn’t dry or hydrate my lips. Maybelline Intoxicating Spice (070) (P, $8.99) is lighter, brighter, less pigmented, warmer. MAC Looks Like Sin (LE, $20.00) is cooler. Marc Jacobs Beauty Love Drunk (320) (P, $28.00) is lighter, more muted, less pigmented. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shooting Stars (316) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Funnel Delight Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a brightened, neon light-medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a cream finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that covered evenly. The gloss seemed a little thinner compared to the other two, but it didn’t highlight lip lines much–I noticed it a little in the close-up photos but not in person. This shade stayed on well for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Silly (LE, $15.00) is lighter, more muted. MAC Style Packed (LE, $15.00) is more muted. NYX Addis Ababa (P, $5.99) is less glossy. MAC Full Speed Ahead (P, $19.50) is darker, more muted. Estee Lauder Rosy Future (LE, $26.00) is darker, more muted. NYX Sugar Cookie (P, $5.00) is less pigmented. Bite Beauty Eleven (Watercolor) (LE, ) is darker, more muted, warmer. Urban Decay Scandal (P, $22.00) is darker, more muted. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Formula Summary: NYX Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a very pigmented gloss that “keeps lips soft and glossy without being sticky.” They are typically very pigmented, but some shades apply better than others; when they apply well, they’re really a great option for anyone who likes their gloss more pigmented. They have a medium-weight consistency that is heavier than the original Butter Gloss formula with light tackiness that develops over time. It’s not hydrating but not usually drying either. The gloss wears four hours on me on average, and the formula has a slight vanilla scent to me, but it seems a little synthetic (something off about it) but had no discernible taste to me.

I like all three!
Yay!
I was eyeing Black Cherry Tart but it’s such a problematic shade for so many brands, definitely need a lipliner with these kind of colors. Chocolate Crepe looks like a nice color for summer. I have Berry Strudel (such a fun bold purple) and Spice Cake (my fave). Totally love the NYX Intense Butter Glosses – they pack a ton of pigment for a very low price !
They do! And no taste!!
I’m very surprised with the pigmentation! Chocolate Crepe is pretty.
Sidenote: Loving the “Formula Summary” piece that you have added. It’s a nice touch. 😉
Thanks, Miss Jae! Good to know — it saves me a little time when I get on a good roll of reviews, haha! 🙂
I agree, it’s a really good, informative addition. Also thanking you for adding it!
I second this! I really like the formula summary too in all of them, because sometimes I miss the original post that included the summary and I have to go back through pages to track it down. (Although tbh I never really mind going back through your pages!) 😉
I love Black Cherry Tart and Chocolate Crepe! They’re some of my fave shades from this line
Nice! 🙂
Your makeup in the Funnel Delight is stunning! Thanks for the review I think I”m going to have to go and pick up the chocolate crepe gloss soon.
Thank you, Kate!
all three are absolutely gorgeous on you!
Thanks, Adhishree!
So funny! I have on Spice Glaze today! I Really like these. But,my daughter often swipes them.:)I do eat a the first one with a lip liner under and it does ok.
Oooh, nice! 😀
Do these butter glosses transfer a lot? It seems to be like these lip gloss would high maintenance.
They will transfer – they are a gloss, so you will leave marks on your glass etc.!
Chocolate Crepe and Funnel Delight both look fantastic on you and very fully pigmented! Although I am set on getting Sephora Glossy Pink for a cool-toned pink gloss because it has that golg micro-shimmer that would allow it to work n me, Funnel Delight is something that definitely gets my attention. Chocolate Crepe is now a “want”, however! On a different note, I just don’t get why most, if not all, brands truly drop the ball when it comes to formulating shades like Black Cherry Tart…tsk tsk on them.
It must be something to do with the pigment used, I think!
I agree…it happens with purple eyeliners and shadows, too.
Chocolate crepe looks so much better than I thought it would. I’ll take two! lol
Haha!
Chocolate Crepe!!
It’s pretty!
These are such great glosses, I have Funnel Delight, Berry Strudel and a couple others. I’ll have to grab these two some time.
Good ones 😀
I love how Black Cherry Tart looks in the swatch, pity it doesn’t look as good on the lips. I for sure don’t need anything in any way enhancing liplines, so I’ll pass on it. The other two though! Very different but both very pretty. I have a Want moment right now 🙂
If only Black Cherry Tart went on better!
I can’t wait till they get here so i can get Chocolate Crepe and Tres Leches :d
Yayyy!
Ooooh Chocolate Crepe looks absolutely delicious! 🙂 Also, I totally want pancakes for lunch now.
Haha!
I’m going to pass on Black Cherry now, it seems to problematic. Every time I went to ULTA it was sold out so I was sad I couldn’t find it but not no more haha
I have Chocolate Crepe and Toaste Marshmellow (not in this post) and I actually quite like them despite not being much of a gloss girl.
It’s really pretty but not a shade that’s easy to wear!
My lips and nose do not like these but I think you wear them very well! Many have great luck with the butters and such! I think it’s great at the price point with all of the BOGOs etc. Unfortunately, my lips disagree.
I’m not keen on the scent either!
Chocolate Crepe…oooh so pretty!!!
Agreed!
I’m in love with chocolate crepe! love rosewood-esk coloured lippies 😀
Me too 😀
