NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream Review, Photos, Swatches

NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream
NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream

NYX Addis Ababa Soft Matte Lip Cream ($5.99 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is a vibrant, neon pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin-matte finish. Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $22.00) is darker, glossier. Maybelline Electric Fuchsia (LE, $7.49) is darker. Maybelline Fuchsia Flash (P, $7.49) is slightly darker. MAC Pink Pigeon (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $15.00) is brighter, bluer-based. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nylon (LE, $18.00) is brighter, bluer-based. See comparison swatches.

It’s richly pigmented with full color coverage in nearly one swipe. It applies evenly, and it dries down to a satin-matte finish in about thirty seconds. After two to three hours of wear, it is fully matte. The texture is thin, and it almost feels dry when applied, but it’s not drying while worn at all. It’s actually slightly hydrating overall. Addis Ababa wears really well and lasts a long time–a solid six and a half hours plus a stain that lingers for a few more hours. It’s not a particularly original color, but it is a fantastic version of it–and for under $10.

Oh wow, didn’t expect it to be an A, I haven’t personally tried it but have seen bad reviews.
How does it fare when you have to reapply on top of it?

Now I’m very interested in trying this formula out!

Mallory Avatar

I will admit that the formula can be a tad bit drying so I recommend using a balm before you apply it but I absolutely LOVE the soft matte lip creams! They’re beautiful!

Casey Avatar

I really want to try out this formula!! The color is beautiful but I fear I have too many hot pink lip colors…and nudes…and reds. Who am I kidding? I should buy this.

Jade Avatar

Wow I have this, and I swear mine is noticeably darker. I even pulled out my Pink Pigeon to compare, and Pink Pigeon is brighter and more blue based compared to Addis Ababa! How odd 😛

I have been incredibly impressed with NYX lip products lately. I’ve bought 5 or 6 of the lipsticks and they are such a steal at $4 a piece! They have tons of colors and they last a few hours (at least until I eat). I’ll have to try the lip cream now too…

Not my kinda color (though I’m happy to admire it on others and think it’s lovely)! BUT…..that IS my kinda finish! That satiny, full-coverage evenness is LEGIT!!!

I purchased Addis Ababa this past weekend while NYX was 40% off at ulta. I LOVE this color. I didn’t like Pink Pigeon or Candy Yum Yum but I love this. It’s a beautiful color and very wearable. I’m glad I picked it up. I’m NW45 for reference.

I love NYX Matte lip creams. I have Amsterdam & San Paulo . I wanted to get Addis-abba as well but wasn’t sure about how the color will look on me. Surprisingly, it looks very warm & beautiful on you Christine. There’s usually BOGO 50% in NYX products and it can’t get better.
One Request: I know you’ve reviewed MAC Chatterbox long time back, can you do it again PLEAASEEE!! Thank You!

This is such a brigt pink shade.. I am loving these neon pinkss this time!!.
ave it in Buttery nude and pinky nude in Xtreme lip creams but the Soft Matte lip creams are even more tempting… liking the pigmented formula a lott.. BTW love the way u applied these so beautifully! 🙂

i LOVE these soft matte lip creams, i actually have 3 (istanbul, stockholm, and san paolo). such a great texture and pretty colors!! i find that i do get kind of a sharp line on my inner lips where the product ends, but it’s not all that visible unless you stick your bottom lip out or make a silly face- and even less visible with the nude/natural looking colors- so it’s nbd!

Irene Avatar

I’m a matte finish kind of girl but the NYX lip creams don’t seem to work for me 🙁 they totally dry my lips out and look very unflattering on me!

Beka Avatar

I’ve never tried anything by nyx. The texture looks like it might be similar to the Armani lip maestros, or is it just my ridiculous hope that there would be something as good as those for less$????????

RACHAEL Avatar

I don’t understand why this looks so bright on most people’s swatches! I have it because cool toned bright pink especially matte lip products are my go to and I have prob 30 and this just doesn’t look like it does on everyone’s swatches…now that I’ve seen it here from the swatch master I give up hope…lol..it’s me not them.

i love the nyx soft matte lip creams, i think i have at least half the collection. my fave are stokholm (very rare to find a nude that works for me), san paulo (bright and not boring, but still proper), and istanbul (perfect pale pink on me).
the others are also lovely staples for me: amsterdam, addis ababa, antwerp, milan….

I’m glad you reviewed this! It looks great on you. ^^

I only have one matte lip cream in Antwerp so far. I almost got Addis Ababa, but decided to wait.
I wasn’t sure if the vibrant color would be flattering on me.

I haven’t used Antwerp that often either, but I think I’m not good at applying the product.
My application doesn’t look even like yours. Lol

Kate Avatar

With the lighter NYX lip creams, I found that they kind of sunk into the lines of my lips. So I paired them with a nude lipstick as close to my lip color as possible and it works like a colored base that helps stop the sinkage. I have Antwerp and I found that the lip creasing is barely noticeable when I paired it with a nude lipstick. Just thought that might help some people who have been having problems with this product and creasing.
